This is HUGE news, considering that our local ABC affiliate happily agreed to block out the race every year, while our NBC affiliate is more libertine with these guidelines.

Ganassi needs to relent and let Larson run Indy.
He'd be the immediate favorite, IMO.

Red flag out in Q3, Bottas has binned it coming out of the first right-left turn of the Melbourne track.

Hamilton with a monster lap puts it on the pole for tomorrow's season-opening race. Might have been gold-bricking a bit...

Every time I see a car slam sideways into a wall at the edge of the track, I always think about how far we've come compared to the exact same crash killing Senna instantly. People complain about safety features taking the fun out of F1, but they're there for a reason.
Oh, and I think they said Hamilton set the all time qualifying record, which is cool.

If that was a standard performance for the qualifying mode of the Merc's engine, it might become an unusual situation when they don't lock out the front row. I think I'll wait and see how things go in the race before I declare Hamilton the champion again. It's amazing some of the crashes that we've seen people walk away from in recent years with, at most, feeling a bit sore. The safety improvements have undoubtedly saved lives since '94.

Alonso's crash in 2016 at the turn before that one is my usual measuring stick of "how did you just walk away from that?"

Yep, I just went and watched it and there wasn't a whole lot of car left afterwards. Kubica in Canada, 2007: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hW5MpdA5CgInjuries: a sprained ankle and a slight concussion.

I totally forgot about that one, the car pretty much exploded around him.

2 updates on the race:
Bottas will apparently be good to race but his gearbox wrecked, so he'll be taking a 5 place penalty for changing it. (P15)
Ricciardo is taking a 3 place penalty for failing to slow for a red flag during practice when the timing wire got loose (P8)
Also, new to the track this year is a 3rd DRS zone on the straight after turn 12

Not as bad as I thought, but with the majority of the things that people like about F1 on the app or News, it's still a downgrade.

For anybody wondering, the new 10 past the hour race starts are so any broadcasters that don't go live until the hour don't miss anything.

Don't know about anyone else's coverage, but Sky Sports has a great "tale of the tape" style feature that I don't think I've ever noticed before
