Friends did a lot of gay jokes involving the guys, and cross dressing jokes involving Chandlers dad...I just saw an article yesterday stating younger millennials watching friends for the first time find it sexist, homophobic and racist...So, that's a thing, I guess. I just thought Friends sucked. 🤷 Granted, I'd love to live in this version of New York City where 3 people who aren't wealthy beyond all imagination can afford a massive apartment in the middle of Manhattan like that. and seem to spend the majority of their time in a coffee shop in the middle of the day.

There's an episode of Saved By The Bell where the guys secretly take pictures of the girls in their swimsuits and sell calendars of them. The fact that they were basically peeping toms and they were selling pics of girls that were supposed to be underage at the time, is all kinds of weird and creepy. But at the time it was funny and everyone was like "Oh that mischievous Zack Morris..." Zack Morris is a freaking supervillain Trash. Fixed.

“Fat” by Weird Al probably wouldn’t make the cut today. There have been changes, but plus size people are still mostly "acceptable targets."

Any movie or tv show where a "hero" character smokes. The only exceptions being Jigen from Lupin III (and that characters been around since the late 60s/early 70s, so he can probably get away with it via grandfather clause) and Sanji from One Piece. Even watching Days of Future Past the other day, it surprised me they showed Logan taking a few drags out of a cigar still. And in that note I'm shocked they let Hannibal smoke during The A-Team movie.

I've always thought the lyrics to Father Figure (by George Michael) were creepy as shit. It's obviously a romantic love song, then the chorus hits:
I will be your father figure (Oh baby) Put your tiny hand in mine (I'd love to) I will be your preacher teacher (Be your daddy) Anything you have in mind (It would make me) I will be your father figure (Very happy) I have had enough of crime (Please let me) I will be the one who loves you 'Til the end of time

Star Trek: The Original Series has a ton of episodes that do not age well. The episode where McCoy slaps the pregnant woman never fails to crack me up

It was portrayed as a bad thing of course, but you never know. And on THAT note, there is NO WAY that Avengers #200 would EVER see print. Heck, it was creepy back in 1981.

Jan left him filed for divorce and he eventually went to seek professional help for his mental issues. the 200 avengers issue was poorly received at the time Millar’s ultimate Hank Pym is a serial abuser story was terrible at the time and probably would have been caught by an editor now too.

You guys are thinking too small to be honest. Imagine a show like Amos and Andy today. The radio show brought the nation to a halt. 20 years later, the NAACP got the television version pulled. Jack Benny’s manservant Rochester (clearly an African-American stereotype) would not fly. Hell, I’m not sure Gone With the Wind would even make theaters and it’s considered a classic.
How about this? Cary Grant in Bringing Up Baby, Classic screwball comedy, in a pink chiffon robe explaining he’s wearing it “because he’s decided to go gay”! And that was in the thirties! Katherine Hepburn was considered scandalous for daring to wear pants in a movie. Mae West got herself banned from radio for decades for doing a very racy version of the Garden of Eden story. At 8 PM. On a Sunday night. How bad? The classic line given to the snake “Get me a big one, I feel like doing a big apple.”
Why I love watching the old stuff. Really shows you how far we have come in a very VERY short time.

One of the things that really bothers me these days is how almost ANYTHING can (and will) be seen sexually.
I don't really know who let the genie out of the bottle (on that note, I don't even know if it's considered culturally-insensitive to say that now), but as somebody who is more or less asexual, everything (even from the past) being looked at through the lens of sex and Sexual Power Dynamics just makes me feel really withdrawn from humanity at large.

Honestly these days it seems simply saying good morning could offend someone.

The one that always sticks out to me is an old favorite of mine, Animal House. The raunchiness in and of itself wouldn't likely be the problem, but yeah, Bluto's "relationship" with Mandy is pretty, uh...yeah. The subplot where Larry's sleeping with the mayor's daughter is probably a no-go at this point, too, and good Lord the scene where they see Otis Day at the bar... Honestly these days it seems simply saying good morning could offend someone. Nope. People have been offended by any number of things forever. Difference is today there are groups that were never heard before due to lack of access to mainstream press/coverage, and in an age of internet news and social media they actually have a platform to state what they feel is wrong about something. I get that you're exaggerating, but if things really were the way people play them up to be nowadays there wouldn't be anything on TV or Netflix anymore, and we know that isn't the case.

It's just social mores changing, the same as they always have. On the one hand, there are groups that will say "all these things aren't allowed any more" On the other, there will be content where those same people will say "how can they allow this? It's corrupting our children". It's the way it's always been and probably always will be. In 1985 the Parental Advisory sticker was thought up to censor music which would be "cleaner" than the music today. Things just change.

Considered squeaky clean and his music was about as non-offensive as possible and one of his songs was still banned during his career because of beliefs over hints of drug use in it. Political correctness, as it were, has always been around, just what's considered correct tends to change.

I remember in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks that ClearChannel put out a list of songs to its radio stations they weren't allowed to play because of so-called "political correctness." And some of it was the most inane stuff ever.
