The last time the Eagles and Patriots played in the Super Bowl, it got a 41.1 rating with 86 million viewers,
Probably gonna be a big increase in both numbers this time.

Grudgingly rooting for the Patriots as I just can't bring myself to root for an NFC East team that isn't the Giants.

Hot take: NFL's ratings decline have little to do with the anthem. I disagree. I think the lack of parity and interesting games play a part but, I know from personal experience that the anthem controversy has rubbed many people the wrong way and has turned them off the NFL. I hate that for many reasons that I won't get into here but, that's what I've seen. For me, it's been this: Most of the games have been mediocre at best. There have been a few good games, but there have also been a lot of shitty games. The officiating is getting worse. Nobody knows what a catch is anymore, and when they get a call correct, there have been instances where instant replay has had that call reversed because who the f*** knows. Roger Goodell's punishment system: The Golden Ginger's punishment system has been completely wonky the past few years. Either fix it, or throw him out. There's no reason Tom Brady's suspension should've even been close to the 16 games Goodell wanted a few years back. Should've went with 4 right off the bat, and called it good.

I think there's a lot more parity in the NFL than say the NBA. At least with the NFL there is the reality of a different team(s) getting there and winning it. We've had Pittsburgh, New England, New York, Baltimore, New Orleans, Denver, etc. In the NBA there's only the Warriors and Cavs. That to me is a lot more boring than what the NFL has to offer.

It would be interesting to see teams like Memphis, New Orleans, Washington, Denver, or Philly get there for a change. Plus on the bright side of things at least the last couple of Super Bowls involving New England has been exciting and competitive.

Plus on the bright side of things at least the last couple of Super Bowls involving New England has been exciting and competitive. The NFL should be THRILLED to have the Patriots in a Super Bowl because every time they've appeared in one in the Belichick/Brady era, the game has come down to the wire. Super Bowl XXXVI was decided on a field goal as time expired. Super Bowl XXXVIII was decided on a field goal with four seconds remaining. Super Bowl XXXIX was a three-point game until Rodney Harrison intercepted the ball with nine seconds left. Super Bowl XLII came down to the final few heaves for Tom Brady, the last of which fell incomplete with one second remaining. Super Bowl XLVI ended on an incomplete Hail Mary into the end zone. Super Bowl XLIX was decided on a Malcolm Butler interception with 20 seconds left. Super Bowl LI was the first to go into overtime.

Oddly enough, MLB has much more parity than the NBA and NFL, especially come playoff time and oddly it's harder to get in the playoffs. I am so sick of the Patriots, but on the other side, as you have said the games are competitive.

I want the Patriots to win, because they are the John Cena of the NFL.
