I just can't get into these games and it's purely down to Kratos being the most unlikable protagonist I have ever come across. I love Greek and Norse mythology and so to try and play as this pretender who kills all the myths and legends goes against everything I like about the setting.

You know things would've gone differently if the gods would just reward Kratos for his years of service which included saving their ungrateful asses multiple times.
Either remove the ashes from his skin or make it so he's no longer plagued and haunted by the memories of his family.

I'm keeping an eye on this one, though I don't think I'll be there Day One.
I'm hoping the reviews will be good. But, as others feel, Kratos was such an unlikeable dickhead that even this revisionist take has some ground to make up with me. GoW 2 and especially 3 really poisoned the well for him with him, so I'll wait for the reaction first.

Yea, I’m fairness the Gods were dicks to Kratos too so it was a matter of turning a warrior into a crazed monster.

Well in Mythology the Gods except for Hestia were Grade A pricks who screwed over mortals as often as they helped them. So while Kratos killed them, its hard to feel bad for them given what they've done

The problem becomes in the fact that because Kratos got dicked by the Gods, everyone else had to suffer and was collateral damage in his way of destroying the gods I do think we will see a older and wiser Kratos in this game and there will obviously still be some rage there but nothing to the extent of what it was before.

That's what they've talked about. This is a Kratos who has found peace with himself and what he's done. The whole point of the game's pilgrimage is so for him and his son to pay tribute to his late wife.

Kratos is in the "old man wisdom" role while still being a dude you don't f*** with. The relationship with his son based off the previews seems like it's going to have a lot more depth than people realize His son and how they write him is the essential key feature to making this whole thing work

Well, early reviews say this game might just be okay.

As did Easy Allies. easyallies.com/#!/review/god-of-war-ps4 This wasn't really on my radar, I played the first two then lost interest after that. May have to check it out with reviews like that.

I've been seeing a decent amount of good to great reviews so I'm off the fence and on the train.

I liked God of War 1 and 2 a lot back when, owned 3 for ages but never made the time to actually play it, but... Eh, I'm not interested at all to be honest. Mix of I am tired of how everything has to have a vast open world full of pointless padding bullshit these days and just the series not really aging great in terms of nostalgia - I look back on it less as a, "Those games were so fun," thing and more, "I'm not really sure why I liked those to be honest."
Main reason I bring it up is while it's all well and good for people who DO want to get it, no complaints at all there, you do you, I'm getting REALLY tired of every game website I go to drowning in people talking about how you'd have to be absolutely insane to not want to play this. Feels like I'm being beaten over the head with it everywhere I look.
Although I might feel tempted IF it comes out that they kill off Kratos. From the day this game's been announced I've wanted them to kill him and move on with the kid as the new protagonist, because Kratos is both a lost cause in terms of being any sort of likable and has nowhere else to go as a character.

You seem to take offense to popular opinions when all they are is just opinions. People are voicing their pleasure of the game so that doesn’t mean you have to play it but for those of us who been waiting it’s a nice sign in a positive direction. You either play it when you want or u don’t. Just my 2 cents. I'm not coming at you or anything like that, just a observation. Also I would disagree. Based upon the reviews Kratos character growth is a major sticking point and how much he grows to love his son while also grieving for his dead wife. They are revamping him and the consensus is they did a good job and a step in the right direction

They are revamping him and the consensus is they did a good job and a step in the right direction Well, what I mean is I'm legitimately seeing a bunch of places outright attacking people for not being interested in it. If people like it that's their business, just feels like people are trying to force me to buy it. Granted that's mostly directed at the, "I don't want it because it's not the old games," crowd (though granted I think that's a perfectly valid thing to complain about, because no shit people want more of the same with a sequel), but I am legitimately seeing all kinds of comments about that you'd have to be an idiot to not be tripping over yourself to play the thing. I'm sure it's a great game and I have nothing against people being hyped for it, I just don't like being clubbed over the head with things. As for Kratos, it's really too little too late for me. Really just about any chance of seeing the character as anything but a monster for me died when after all the shit he went through in the first game due to Ares he turned around and started acting exactly like him in the second.

I ended up caving and preordered that PS4 Pro bundle. The fact that I'm hearing rave reviews for it did it for me.

Ohh if that's the case they can f*** off. You don't attack people for not liking a game you do. This game may be the best game of the Xbox One/Ps4 era but that doesn't mean people have to play it and they need to slow down with those type of comments because it turns people off I agree that Kratos shouldn't be redeemable but I will be interested in the journey. Making him older would in theory make him wiser and while I don't expect a ton of references to the older games, I do at least want to hear him say he f***ed up which they sort of showed he would do in the trailers when he told his son there are drastic consequences for killing a god

Really, if this game doesn't end with Kratos's son tearing out his dad's heart in a rage and screaming in furious triumph to the heavens over his dead body, it's not in the true spirit of the games
