The Superfriends one was awesome because its a pretty dark direction for what was a light-hearted kids show.

Batman 89 is my favorite version, but I do get a sick satisfaction out of seeing Thomas Wayne beat that bastard to death in the Flashpoint version.

As much as I love Batman 89, I HATE Joker being the one that killed them. It works for the story they were telling, just don't care for it in the larger mythos of the character.

As much as I love Batman 89, I HATE Joker being the one that killed them. It works for the story they were telling, just don't care for it in the larger mythos of the character. Yeah, I much prefer it being a random thug like Joe Chill than some big grand conspiracy or my least favorite trope of "EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE BEFORE IT WAS IMPORTANT THEY KNEW EACH OTHER!" like Batman 89. |

There was a passing reference on the West series, apparently, though...can someone confirm or deny it? That episode was also meant to be a kind of backdoor pilot for a Hanna-Barbera Batman series. I would have liked to see it too, as Superfriends was getting more sophisticated in this, the one and only Super Powers Team season. |

In the first episode, he has a line about how everything he's worked for since his parents murder is going down the drain. They never reference it again. I wish that series had happened. It feels like lost potential, that show was getting extremely interesting around that time. I also consider it canon to 60's Batman so it was great to see West narrate that. |

Yes, it was a forced dramatic device. Like Sandman in Spider-Man 3 (and that was one of the LEAST of that movie's problems!!!) It kind of hurts the overall story because the point is Bats or Spidey never get a second chance at revenge and must live with what had happened. (though Batman did confront Joe Chill again in the comics...) And they kind of retconned Jack/Joker being the killer in Batman Forever. |

Napier being the killer is a better story than a random guy. The duality of them creating each other was an excellent way to tie the hero and villain together. As for Joe Chill, he could have been the guy with Napier who stole Mrs Wayne's necklace, then reacted with shock when Napier whacked them both for no reason.

It depends on the comic continuity otherwise. Like I said, some versions of the story have Bruce confronting Joe Chill again, and causing him to get killed by other mobsters for the trouble he caused by creating Batman. Other ones I believe he never saw Chill again or knew who he was. If you think the guilt of not doing anything about Chill is part of what motivates Batman, then having the faceless murderer works. Same with the burglar in the Spider-Man origin story. Then again...catching/beating up/whatever the one who killed their family member(s) doesn't change that the incident happened, so Bruce can still want to prevent crime from making Gotham unsafe, and Peter can still remember that he wasn't responsible that one time. |

I've always preferred the killer to never be named or discovered, it fits in with crime being an anonymous presence with no name or face.
I also prefer to think the killer wasn't some melicous taunting thug, just a desperate man with gun who caught the Waynes at the wrong place and time.
