The Silver Surfer may soon ride the cosmic skyways into movie theaters once again. A report from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that 20th Century Fox is pushing ahead with developing a Silver Surfer movie. The film is being developed from a treatment by Brian K. Vaughan, the creator of Marvel’s Runaways and writer of other hit comics including Saga, Paper Girls, and Y: The Last Man. The Silver Surfer movie is reportedly one of several “secret” projects that 20th Century Fox is working on despite the looming merger with Walt Disney. "We are going 100 miles per hour," one executive involved told THR. The Silver Surfer made his film debut in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2000, where he was played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne. Fox hired J. Michael Straczynski to pen the script for a Silver Surfer spinoff film, but after the poor reception for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and a disappointing box office performance nothing ever came out of the idea. It's unclear how Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox would affect these “secret” plans for a Silver Surfer movie. comicbook.com/marvel/2018/02/27/silver-surfer-movie/

If this is a deal where Marvel co-produces like Spider-Man Homecoming, it could have interested me...

Man...I've been wanting Silver Surfer in the MCU since for ever ago. The comics version of whole Thanos/Infinity Gems/Stones storyline that the MCU centers around started in Silver Surfer's series and spun out from there. (Okay, the seeds were planted in the '70s Warlock series, but it was Silver Surfer's series and the Infinity Gauntlet miniseries which spun out from it that got the storyline going full force in the '90s.) Drax and Gamora, who have starred in two blockbusters and have tons of merchandise, used to be supporting characters in Silver Surfer's series. The fact that the Surfer has been on the sidelines while all this has been extremely frustrating to me.

Ok, we're getting the real Galactus in this one, right? No cloud.

I assume it's a typo, but Rise of the Silver Surfer came out in 2007, not 2000.

Stan Lee's original pitch in the 70s had a blaxploitation vibe and a pimp character called Sweet Daddy Wisdom who would refer to Surfer as honky.
Woulda been awful
And awesome.

Can't be worse than the Silver Surfer cartoon. what. the cartoon was awesome. I used to think that too. Then I rewatched the series on Netflix. It did NOT age well.

I thought Stan wanted Kirby to ditch the Surfer entirely originally Or would this have been post his debut in Fantastic Four? Also... yeah Fox is trying to develop as many Marvel movies as they can before the merger... but I doubt any of them go anywhere.

Frank Castle will end up as a Herald of Galactus, flying around in a cosmic tank with the Power Cosmic.

If I remember what I read right (this is from a Stan biography), Surfer loses his powers and is Norrin Radd for half the movie.

I've never really gotten Silver Surfer as a leading man. He's fine in a supporting role but I just don't see it in carrying a story.

Can't be worse than the Silver Surfer cartoon. Thanos inadvertently quotes the opening narration to The Raccoons. Street cred for life.
