It looked unbelievably pretentious from the trailers. There is always a bit of schadenfreude that comes from an overblown movie getting eviscerated like this.

It looks like someone EL James’d a Black Widow fan script, and somehow sold it to a studio.

Eh reading the IGN review made me want to see it more. The review felt like the guy wasn't into dark and overly violent films and scored it accordingly. Probably isn't a masterpiece but a 2.5 for a movie where the worse thing said about it is the fact it's dark as hell doesn't seem right to me. I haven't seen it though so maybe it is that bad.

I almost burst out laughing in the theatre when I saw the trailer for this because J-Law’s accent was freaking atrocious.

I almost burst out laughing in the theatre when I saw the trailer for this because J-Law’s accent was freaking atrocious. I don't see the point of doing a film accented anyways. Either use the real language and subtitles (I know, that is a real pain) or don't bother with the accent as it is automatically translated. If you have to do an accent, have them be subtle, not over the top.

For J-Law being the star that she is and getting paid the amount she does, she's already got a couple duds in her relatively short career.

For J-Law being the star that she is and getting paid the amount she does, she's already got a couple duds in her relatively short career. One has to wonder for how long she can do this coasting on her early achievements thing she’s been doing the last few years(I don’t know if it is intentional or not, but many of her recent films she either lazily walks through clearly without any effort given(the X-Men films post-First Class she’s been in) or she just overacts in one way another, be it just chewing up the scenery, being overly dramatic, or doing just odd acting choices in general). Like you go and look at her filmography and you realize many of the best things to happen to her career basically happened one after another in like a three year span. 2010 she has Winter’s Bone where, albeit not her film debut but certainly the first film people gave an iota of a damn about her and got her her first Best Actress Oscar nom, so it put her on the radar as a young, talented actress to watch out for. 2011 she’s in First Class, so already she has a major role in a major blockbuster film. 2012 was the big year for her and the main reason she’s still allowed to coast, because she had the one-two punch of being the lead in The Hunger Games, the blazing hot young adults novel franchise of that time, which would certify her as being a memorable actress for an entire generation of kids, teens, and young adults(also doesn’t hurt the first two Hunger Games films are actually pretty damn good, not gonna lie about that), and being the lead actress in Silver Linings Playbook which would nab her her second Best Actress Oscar nom and her first Best Actress Oscar win. Having two noms and a win within only 3 years certified her as legit. In the eyes of Hollywood and the global film audience, she was now firmly a “good actress”. Then after that she starts going on a steady decline until we’ve reached this point. I don’t know where the J-Law from that 2010-12 span went but damn I want her back. I loved that version of Jennifer Lawrence. This current era of Jennifer Lawrence just makes me groan when I see her in a film trailer.

I really, REALLY liked her performance. The film? Yeah, it's uneven, way too dark and violent in places for my tastes but she works HARD to make it better than it should be. The dance scene is pretty much perfect.

That time period you mentioned is the reason why she got a lot of billing in X-Men and didn’t even have the Mystique make up on half the time At this point you have to wonder how long she can coast on past achievements as you said. Hollywood is funny in the fact like you said she’s getting roles because she’s in the “good actress” territory but before you know it you get left behind. Box office stars like Will Smith and Tom Cruise are sort of just there now and good actresses get left behind and aren’t the first calls for bigger roles

The funny thing is that the general consensus seems to be that Jennifer Lawrence is the only GOOD thing about this movie, too.

Never watched Winters Bone, my first impression were the Hunger Games movies (via my Ex Gf -_-) and I thought she was pretty terrible in that. Then I watched Silver Lining and she was pretty great in that. I've found her pretty insufferable since then. She's still young. And the talents there. I don't like How she comes off in real life but career-wise she needs to work with a director who dgaf about her stardom and pushes her abilities.

It looks like someone EL James’d a Black Widow fan script, and somehow sold it to a studio. Seriously. Even going as far as the color/creature route with the name. It's such an obvious ripoff.

The funny thing is that the general consensus seems to be that Jennifer Lawrence is the only GOOD thing about this movie, too. Well in terms of the actors. The only consistently praised thing I’ve heard is the cinematography is fantastic, and even seeing some clips/screenshots from the movie, I can seen why. There’s some stunning shots in the film. However the actors are various levels of “DGAF”, with Jeremy Irons apparently the worst offender of this in the movie(which to be fair, he’s Jeremy Irons, who is kind of a canary in a coal mine, as he’ll ham the hell out of things if he thinks it is a bad film).

What's so damn funny about this is I saw this trailer in front of Fifty Shades Freed and said the same exact thing.

I'm pretty sure the origin story of Lawrence's character is just Black Widow, but with the superhero stuff removed.
