Not to defend Spoony, but I do recall he apologized for the Squall gay comments in a later video. As as aside, I'll never get how you can make money playing games and watching movies and still figure out a way to f*** it up. Noah has a massive ego, and would rather alienate his fanbase instead of creating content. Plus he pretty obviously had no "Plan B" if this whole "reviewing things on the internet" bubble burst. The thing is that the bubble hasn't burst because there's still a huge audience on Youtube. Spoony's issue is his mental health/bodily health and laziness.

Because after the JewWario thing, he sunk worse into the depression/anxiety spiral until he pretty much couldn't work anymore.

Yeah I mean people had been predicting a collapse in the comedic reviewer genre for like the last 7 or 8 years and it hasn't happened. The names change but I think the concept is here to stay. It's gonna evolve a bit though. I mean Kyle Kallgren and Lindsay Ellis for example have gone in a more serious direction and I think we're going to see more of that over time.

Funny internet critics aren't going anywhere for a long time, but I do feel there aren't nearly as many "angry guy" funny reviewers now as there were when James Rolfe first got really big. His success understandably spawned a lot of imitators. There are still a few around today, but it seems like the overall tone of vlogging has gradually become more varied overall.

Even AVGN has tried new things. Granted, they werent always succesful (ie, the toxic crusaders review with lloyd kaufman), but he has tried to move on beyond just "this game sucks!".

First tiem I found this Channel was about DSP,it was also the first time i heard abouti DSp,not sure why the f*** I clicked, i think it was the name and thumbnail. Guy does great work.
The video really escalated from nowhere with the him saying he wants to rape a girl, holy crap.
I never cared about him, one thing that ALWAYS bothered, even when he was considered good. The hair.
Holy crap the dude always has greasy long hair.

Besides DSP and Chris-Chan, I'd also suggest the following episodes:
Empress Theresa (Mainly for how bad the novel is, how delusional its author is, and the accounts of the comment section wars)
The Mouse Utopia Experiments (especially if you're a fan of Secret of Nimh and want to learn about the horrible shit it was based on)
Time Cube (if only for how deluded the guy is)
Henry Darger (actually a really fascinating one)
Neopets (easily the most detailed history online about it)
The Digital Homicide one is okay, but nothing that Jim Sterling didn't already go into. Colyer Brothers is a good one too, but there are other outlets to learn about them as well. Other than that, the rest are fine.

He's obviously had a passion for filmmaking since he was a child.

Always been curious, but that realm of traumatizing kids youtube has disturbed me just reading about it.

It’s less about the videos themselves but about the copy and pasting of content across several channels and it’s really surreal the history of it and what the pattern from them are. I’d recommend it.

Reading about the whole Elsagate (named such due to Elsa from Frozen being the most-frequently used character in these bizarre-as-f*** videos, along with Spider-Man) makes me realized how completely f***ed up it really is.

He's obviously had a passion for filmmaking since he was a child. Honestly, if James decided to never do another Nerd or James and Mike video and instead just did Monster movie history or Board James stuff, I'd be even more happy with his content than I already am. These days he sometimes seems to just be phoning it in on the Nerd, and that's ok, IMO...I'm actually fine with it...but any time he does a monster movie video (especially ones about the classics like Dracula, Frankenstein, or Godzilla) his work just gets a zillion times better. Even though Board James ended kinda weird last time, I dug it, and after repeated views kinda started to understand what he was going for. Still hoping he revisits it some time in the future.

Noah/Spoony seemed so much like someone who was legitimately that angry in his reviews. There'd be candid conversations where he'd talk the same he did in his videos. I don't believe James is ever THAT angry at the games he plays, and that it's all exaggeration. I feel like Spoony did get that worked up at times and generally had that short of a fuse. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised one shred when people starting calling him out for his behavior. Just seemed like the kind of person who wanted attention but wasn't prepared to handle everything that comes with it (not an uncommon story).
I could just never get into the dude. I always thought James, PlayItBogart (who recently returned and is right up there with my favorite video creators), and so on were much better. He never seemed unique enough to be different to me, even if he had funny moments at times (unlike Linkara, where I thought his content was unique in that it was a different medium, but he just wasn't entertaining to watch). I'd watch his videos and just think "Man, why am I not watching [different creator]?"

James is very much not The Nerd character- James is a nice, friendly, calm, very kind person from everything I've heard from people who have had the pleasure of meeting him at conventions. He really does appreciate his fans.

He really does appreciate his fans. That's all I've ever heard too. Even if there was controversy to address, he'd be professional about it. Hell, sometimes he'd just say nothing and let people talk. And I know that would piss people off, but he seems to know when he'd just be adding fuel to the fire. I just get the idea the AVGN character (and his other characters) are FAR removed from James Rolfe the person. But having seen what I've seen of Noah outside the Spoony videos, I never got the idea Noah Antwiler and "TheSpoonyOne" were far removed from each other. Having said all that, speaking as someone who never saw what was so "special" about him in his prime, I legit hope whatever mental instabilities he has he gets through and he comes out of it all well and good...and if he does get shit together and make a comeback I'm sure there'll be an audience waiting (and hopefully he'll have better learned how to handle and conduct himself around a large audience). But he needs to just get his shit together, full stop. And if being off the site and off the content creation game is what he needs (though I'd verify with finality whether he's still in or out, and if he IS out...then announce it on the site, shut down the Patreon for now, etc.)
