Going opposite of the "Players You Thought Would Be Good But Weren’t" thread.
The guys who thought would not pan out and be bad, but turned out to be better than we thought they would.
Steph Curry- He wasn't universally considered someone who would be great and he became one of this generation's best guards.
Kristaps Porzingis- He was universally maligned as a WTF draft pick in 2015, but he id anything but an LOL draft pick

That little guy that was promoted heavily when the Charlotte Hornets first burst onto the scene.
Always saw Larry Johnson, him and Alonzo Mourning in ads together.

I thought Matt Ryan would suck. He just never impressed me at BC. But safe to say Atlanta feels good about taking him #1 overall.

Porzingis is a damn good pick. I was def in the WTF territory with him because he was so unknown and I thought someone you know like Jahlil Okafor would have been better. Thank God I was wrong

Hmm Judge like Sanchez had been getting buzz in the Yankees system for years but at no point did I think Judge would become face of the Yankees and one of the best players in baseball

Kurt Warner had to been the perfect answer for this. I mean as a fan WHO really thought when when he was said to take over for the injured Trent Greene that he would do what he did? I mean you have a guy who was not a top draft pick, who wasn't in a major college program. Was stocking shelves. Would come in borderline an unknown to not only lead a team to the superbowl and win it while putting up insane numbers. But have a hall of fame career. Kurt Warner had one of the greatest sports stories in history. But I'm sure nobody saw that coming going into that season.

Judge was one of the more hyped prospects coming out of the Yankee system, but I don't think anyone could've predicted he'd be this big this soon.

Yea like I said if you follow the Yankees as most us Yankee fans do, you've known Judge and Sanchez name for at least the last few years. Hell, Gary name has been out there since they had Russell Martin and they traded Jesus Montero (speaking of a player who flamed out) due to having Gary in the system

Following my NFL team in 1999-2000, me and friends from school were all in on Michael Bishop being the next great QB in the NFL and heir apparent to Drew Bledsoe, and were shocked when they chose the third-stringer and released him to make that guy the backup.
...never did find out what happened to that Tom Brady kid, anyway...

Its funny, Not a Pats fan, but I remember the hype on Bishop from being so heavily into the sportscard community back then. And in the end, Bishop’s claim to fame is having the lowest recorded score for the NFL’s wonderlic test. Maybe that had something to do with it. Ha

Hubert Davis got a scholarship to play basketball and many people thought he only got it because he was Walter Davis nephew and wasn't expected to contribute much. By the time he left UNC he became the first player to average 20 points a game since Michael Jordan. His NBA career wasn't much but he did play on a Knicks team that went to the NBA Finals.
