Personally, I'd put this right up there with Batman: TAS in being a perfect representation of what makes its title character great. This was one of Kids WB's highlights.

I should really try and watch more of the show. I've seen probably about half of it and I do like it quite a bit but it's never clicked with me in quite the same way as BtAS.
Then again that kind of goes for the whole DCAU. I like Batman Beyond but don't love it, seen some good Justice League episodes but never had any real interest in trying to watch all the way through it. Like hell I'm ever bothering with Static Shock or Zeta Project.

I think S:TAS suffers a bit when compared to B:TAS (and even TNBA) because Superman's villains aren't as psychologically driven or in-depth as Batman's rogues are. I don't think S:TAS could pull off its own versions of episodes like "Baby Doll," "Sideshow," "Read My Lips," or "Heart of Ice." It's no wonder that villains like Jax-Ur, Maxima, Parasite, and Luminus fell by the wayside in favour of Lex Luthor (obviously), Brainiac, and especially Darkseid. The Fourth World stuff, in particular, really carried the later seasons of S:TAS when businessman Luthor couldn't (at least Justice League and JLU went full-tilt into 'evil scientist' Luthor).

Everything DCAU until Mystery of the Batwoman is definitive DC for me.
JL/JLU came after that, but that is solid as well.
But they let Bruce Timm sully it with his creepiness.

That's probably a pretty good point, given a lot (though certainly not all) of the best BtAS episodes are the very villain-focused ones. Related to that BtAS had a few villains it either reinvented or made up that had some lasting impact, most obvious examples being Harley and Mr. Freeze (though I do really think Baby Doll, Calendar Girl, and Roxy Rocket should get a lot more play than they do), while the only unique ones StAS really has of note are its take on Brainiac and introducing Livewire (who I also feel like is criminally underused) and Mercy Graves.

My only complaint about this, and Justice League after, is that there was never a TRUE reveal for Clark to Lois about the Superman identity thing.
No, that one scene in the show where Lois doesn't believe him doesn't count.

Between the the DCAU and the Lois and Clark, you had about 13 years of relatively solid Superman media till about 2006 when both JLU ended and Superman Returns came out, and thus began a decade plus of crap, occasional gems from the DCAU movie series aside. Throw in Smallville getting worse in some respects and you had one hell of a descent for the Man of Steel.

Yea their was something endearing to seeing Static meet them and Justice League at points Also with it being referenced later in the Justice League show when they got sent to the future

Smallville was great from Seasons 1-7 and imo started to fall off the cliff once the regulars started leaving with Lex and Lana. They should have actually made him Superman once he got in Metropolis instead of the red/blue blur BS they did

It's my favorite iteration of the character. They made him wholesome and good natured without making him perfect.

Clancy Brown is forever the voice of Lex Luthor This. And Michael Ironside as Darkseid. Brilliant casting all around, I say. I would agree that S:TAS doesn't quite stack up to B:TAS, what with the latter being a timeless classic. Though I would venture to say that it's about even with The New Batman Adventures season.

I don't care what anyone thinks about this show, it eventually led us to the "World of Cardboard" speech, which is my favorite moment in the entire 80 year history of Superman.

While I don't dislike it, I never liked S:TAS as much as B:TAS and after a while I realized a reason for that. B:TAS is basically the Batman counterpart to the Fleischer Superman. But then S:TAS is the Superman counterpart to B:TAS, so it's like translating something to another language, and then translate it back again. There was already a Superman who could fit into the world of B:TAS. So I guess TNBA was necessary if you wanted tie them together.

I didn't grow up reading comics, but I did grow up with the Batman and Superman animated series', and that's what's made me a bit of a DC fan ever since, even if I'm still not much of a comic book reader. Clancy Brown is forever the voice of Lex Luthor This. And Michael Ironside as Darkseid. Brilliant casting all around, I say. Not to bash some of the tremendously talented voice actors who have played Darkseid since Ironside did (Kevin Michael Richardson is wonderful), but it kills me that ever since S:TAS, they just keep casting Darkseid with a bit of a "generic deep voice modulation" style instead of the more stylized and understated flow Ironside brought to the role. Hell, I was hyped when I saw that Steve Blum would play him when they did the animated adaptation of the first New 52 Justice League arc, but they just ran his voice through the computer to make it super deep and gave him barely any dialog. Such a waste, especially when you can recite lines that were done so well like "I told you before, Superman, if you would not be my knight, then you would be my pawn", or just the exasperated "I can't believe he's blood..." about Kalibak.

This. Darkseid works best as a deep, intimidating voice; but one that is the sound of a unperturbed and confident supreme conqueror that knows his victory is inevitable. Lines like "I am many things Kal-El, but here I am god" only works with the calm and composed voice that an Ironside can give Darkseid. Dr Claw 2.0 is just the lazy way of making the audience see him as the big bad.

It can be a tall order sometimes, bringing some humanity to Superman and making him work, but the series did it splendidly. Tim Daly really nailed it.
Dana Delany as Lois Lane was always a highlight for me, too, as well as Clancy Brown as Luthor.
