The Greatest Great Balls of Fire Main Event AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura - Kyoto Deathmatch. Rules - No DQ No submissions or standard pinfalls to win If a wrestler is pinned for a 3 count, then hit in the balls and if he fails to get to his feet following a 10 second count after the nutshot, then his opponent is declared the winner.

I thought the crowd was okay, they popped for Cena, Orton and even they did Elias' catchphrase. Maybe it was because an outdoor show so it didn't seem all that loud at times.

I want them to keep putting on ever bigger Royal Rumbles just to see who they can dig up for these things. Eventually they're like - "Dudes..that's everyone...we're gonna have to add women in too"

The annual wcw ppv in November was called World War 3. So maybe that might work? Another battle Royale this time 60 men, 3 rings.

Thign to me is, there's a big risk-reward factor here. Yeah, they're probably getting a TON of cash to do this, and that's great. It expands their market, theoretically, assuming anything beyond this show is available to the general public there. If not...then it does nothing to grow business. The downside of course is that they run shows there, with the limitations they are given (and those limitations will go up after the ad they aired that got them so much heat), what affect will it have on the oh so important casual and non-fan markets in other counties who might look at it and say "wait the company is doing this thing in a place where what many of us hold as important is held back, so we should support this company with money while they work with a system we think is bad". That won't make the non-fans jump on board and give them money. So what they get from the Saudis has to outweigh what they might lose in every other market they have based on their decision. Big soccer teams take questionable money all the time to no effect on their fanbase.

GRR felt like a special big event, so I hope they keep doing unique themes for these shows. Doing them more than once a year will make that hard.

Yes, but I think in general, WWE fans are more hung up on the "Vince is every single kind of bigot that a white man can be" thing than soccer fans are about their teams' ownership/management, and doing more shows in KSA only reinforces it, in those fans' minds.

Which they already think and still tune in and have for years, and if they aren't, why would WWE care anyway? I doubt many people are dropping off from watch WWE because of a few shows in a country they have issues with, especially given that, even if you take away the fact WWE is a business with jobs to secure and money to make, they are part of a small but growing attempt to modernise in that country and should actually be supported for trying to do so. No country/culture is going to change over night. You take it slow and steady and you push limits once your feet are under the table. Anyone expecting things to change overnight ought to look at that their own countries histories - cos no chance that changed overnight either. Support and be happy for the baby steps, because in the end, they dont have to take any steps at all and this is at least a start.

I don't disagree with you that the baby steps shouldn't be looked past, but I also understand that we live in an "I want it now" zeitgeist where people look at things in an all-or-nothing paradigm.

I loved the show, it felt different and that always interests me. 2 times a year sounds weird though. But everyone gets paids well at least.

Just don't overdo it. The GRR felt special. It was a fun show, FUN. I enjoyed watching it because I knew what it would be going in, which was a Middle Eastern version of Insurrection from the early 2000s. As someone else said, social commentary notwithstanding, i think this is a brilliant business move by WWE.

That much just for holding the event there? And they get Merch and a cut of the tickets on top of it? The Saudis must be losing their ass in that deal if it’s true. And if it is $100 million PLUS ticket and Merch sales, then what Xpac said about insane money being thrown around must be true, and I hope the wrestlers got BIG checks. At that level, if you told me they gave Hornswoggle a hundred grand, it would be fine.
