I need a little advice, I have a friend of mine who owes me a rather large chunk of change. $750.00 to be exact. He keeps on telling me he will pay me back when he gets the money. I told him fine. Then I find out . . . well actually he told me that he bought a $1200 laptop cash. He also made some other high dollar purchases. My question is should I ask him again for the money or should I just forget about it and let it eat away ar me?

Don't let him get away with it. Steal it back like Heenan took the money bag away from Andre.

Just ask him point blank, that's what i would do.
"Hey man, you owe me $750 but you said you don't have it. Why the hell would you buy a $1200 laptop instead of paying me back?"

Demand it NOW!
Just reading this makes me furious because over the past 4 years I've "lost" two of my best friends over s*** like this and will PROBABLY never speak with them again, because one owes me $250 and the other $450 and both promised to pay several times and never did, so I ended up cutting scathing shoot promos on both of them and now I will never see the money
f***!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just ask him point blank, that's what i would do. "Hey man, you owe me $750 but you said you don't have it. Why the hell would you buy a $1200 laptop instead of paying me back?" In this or similar words, ask for it back. This is the problem with lending, because you become the babysitter who vets every purchase he makes. Expect to hear something like, "But I needed the computer for school and I almost flunked out and it's not like you're hurting for money and-and-and" I would kick it up a notch and anticipate this by saying something like, "I really need the $750 because I'm in the hole for $2000 and this one mob guy knows where I live and-and-and" You have to create the kind of whiny excuse your friend is likely to give you; basically you have to outwhine him while consistently pointing out that it's YOUR money you're talking about.

It wasn't loaned to him, he and his girlfriend were living with me, and we had agreed to split everything 3 ways, I ended up paying everything and they paid nothing. They have since broken up and I have no clue as to her whereabouts. So technically I am owed $1500, but I know I will never see 1/2 of that.

The magic of the WC filters anyway, yes, ask for it back, repeatedly, make him look stupid for not having it.

Good for you to avoid lending, this is a different situation. Sponging off you makes him look like even more of a dick. Definitely use the same tactic, your own mounitng financial desperation, etc. Just the other day there was an article in the paper about a Pay Pal type website that basically creates debt for roommates to split expenses via credit card. Sad that it comes to this, but better that they should jack up their credit rating than take your money.

I have a friend who was in a similar situation. The main difference, however, was that the other guy and his wife were always broke. If the other guy was tossing around money like that, it would have been one thing, but he just let it all go because it would have been like rying to get blood from a stone; it just wasn't there.

1. Get a pair of brass knucks.
2. Say to him, "Look, pal. That 750's coming out of your wallet..or your ass"
3. Situation: Resolved

[glow=black,5,300]ask for it back, and make sure you're holding a baseball bat, or something that could hurt him if he tries to get out of paying you[/glow]

He owes you $750. Unless you're a lot better off financially than I am, this isn't exactly chump change. Hit him up for the money, again, and this time mention that you're thinking of taking him to small claims court.

$750??? Shit, you're lucky. A friend of mine owes me so much cash, I don't even know the total, it's gotta be at least $3000, maybe even 4000. It's in the thousands, I know that. They say when you lend friends money, consider it a gift, it's true.
