When you are powerful enough sadly, you can warp your world into whatever vision you want. Harvey had that type of power because he can make people and he can break people and f*** over their career. In the case of R Kelly, the dude no doubt is on the list of greatest R&B artist of all time and was at the top of the game for a long time and it was no secret what he was doing. Things like the stuff with Aaliyah and then the sex tape with him peeing on a girl should have ended him and it didn't It took a gang of people to take these people down finally and say f*** the consequences My fingers pointed at thosr who also had power and infuence. Like with Lady Gaga collaborating with R-Kelly. She is the biggest star in pop, she could easily have said no. At that point, everyone knew what R Kelly did. But she still saw fit to work with him Or with Weinstein. I dont doubt he could end the careers of interns, scriptwriters, extras and minor actors. But, I dont buy for a second that he could end the careers of the likes of Ben Affleck or Colin Firth or Tarantino who are genuine A Listers and all knew what he was like to varying degrees. I respect Coogan alot for having a word with him for bullying women. Weinstein had pull in a lot of companies. He could easily pull funding from a ton of movies if someone tried to do threaten against him... A list doesn't mean shit if no one wants to work with you. one of the reasons he was finally ousted was because he lost a lot of his power.

He's just another small piece in an otherwise large scale of seedy corruption in the industry though. There are others who are worse than him and are still in prominent positions. I simply view Weinstein as the fall guy at this current junction.

Kate Beckinsale's recent post about him was sad to read. Where he called her a c*** for not wearing a dress to his premiere. But why did nobody step in before now? Lena Headey said she was warned about him, Kate Beckinsale got verbally abused by him, he bullied countless other women... and in public (Steve Coogan said he did it in front of him in a recent interview, and to be fair, did confront him about it) I'm sorry, but if I saw someone hurling abusr at someone for not wearing a dress to a premiere, I'd chin him. Yet he was allowed to get away with it. Because Hollywood is a f***ing cesspool.

On another note. The people who did know he was raping women should be blacklisted from Hollywood. Colin Firth was told by Sophie Dix what happened and did nothing. Now, im sorry, but if youve been told by a crying woman that someone raped her... you dont just do nothing. That is absolutely not the case. A survivor has the right to control their own information. I don't know anything about this Colin Firth situation, but this blanket statement is just wrong.

I'm talking about his friends, associates, people in power who knew what he was like and ignored it. People would know what he was like. Quentin Tarantino for example said, direct quote, ""There was more to it than just the normal rumors, the normal gossip. It wasn't secondhand. I knew he did a couple of these things."" People like that, who knew what he was like, need to be held accountable and called out for it. I never said the survivors and victims should be blamed, nor would I ever say that. It's his friends and associates who knew.

Yeah, I mean Seth Macfarlane knew years earlier becuase one of the survivors told him on the grounds he wouldn't actually say anything officially.

Actually witnessing it? I think there's an argument there that they share culpability. But everybody else? Hearing rumours is not enough to do anything about. Very dangerous. To a lot of people and in a lot of ways. And a survivor may tell you without wanting anything to be done.

Survivors have the right to control their stories and all Colin Firth yelling "He's a rapist!" about Weinstein when he heard that would've done is completely destroy his career, with nothing happening to Weinstein at all.

Also, how do we know Colin Firth said nothing? If I recall what I heard correctly, Brad Pitt confronted the situation when he was dating Gwyneth Paltrow. His career is fine, but also nothing really changed outside of changing for Gwyneth specifically. Colin Firth - who I've never heard a bad thing about - may have done something similar and it changed a small piece, not the situation overall. One person can only do so much on their own.

Yea, let's not try to pretend this is a black and white situation. There is a whole lot of grey in there and as much as you may want to help, you are only one person and even then as said maybe the victim isn't there yet where they feel comfortable telling a bunch of people. Situations like this is crazy, you can know but you really can't do anything due to the power the abuser has.

Our criminal justice system has a tough enough time holding ordinary people accountable for committing sexual assault. When it comes to the rich, influential, and powerful, it's that much tougher. This is the sort of thing people mean by "rape culture."

"A survivor has the right to control their own information" You are accusing me of blaming the survivors which I clearly did not do and which is a horrible accusation to make towards somebody. And yes, the "somebody" who told Colin Firth was Sophie Dix, one of the people who were sexually abused by Weinstein. It's not like he had a random person tell him. He himself admits he should have done something. It's astounding how people on here think looking after your own career is more important than doing the right thing. Ie, acting on the fact a diatressed woman has come to you help after a movie director has tossed her to the floor, tore her clothes off leading her to locking herself in the bsthroom to escape. If someone tells you that, you do something about it.

By keeping quiet, he was one of the people who allowed Weinstein to keep on doing what he did. Even if by coming forward it stopped just ONE woman going alone with him. Made her think "hang on, ive heard bad shit about this guy. Im not going to his room." Then it would be worth it.

Though I will say that him saying in hindsight he should have done more is better than him being like *shrug*. I mean, it's not like he thought it was fine, obviously. It really comes down to what the victim wants. In a perfect world, they'd be fine with someone going all vengeance warrior on whoever did it, but sometimes people hesitate not because they don't care, but because they *do* care, you know? Not saying that is or isn't what happened with Colin Firth, but it's not always as black and white as we all wish it was. Maybe he followed her lead; maybe he thought she was fragile and didn't want to add to anything. No one can make a person come forward with their story. It's all so faceted.

Well theres some good news. I hope he survives and does his 25 years He's not doing his 25 years even if he survives this (the odds of which, let's be honest, are not in his favour). Hell, even if he were free I think he'd be dead in ten years - the man led an extraordinarily unhealthy lifestyle.

Anyone who celebrates this needs to stop and think. If even Weinstein can get coronavirus that's very very bad news for the US prison system. Just awful. If he got it through any vectors common to the rest of the inmates then things aren't going to progress well.
