Matrix - really surprised we haven't gotten a fourth. Especially in this day and age. I know rumors pop up every now and then. Really? Considering the critical reaction to the second and third movies and how much the Wachowski's stock has fallen over the last decade and a half I'm amazed anybody would want a fourth movie or think it was a good idea.

Star Trek TNG and DS9 Could have gone on for years more. Is it true that if a TV show reaches an 8th season, the actors get a massive pay raise?

I was hoping a third Tron movie would’ve worked out. It was a rare case where so much time passed between the original movie and the sequel and it was even better than the first movie. You can overlook any changes because technology has updated and improved so much in the time that had passed. I’m not a huge fan of CGI because it looks so fake to me most of time but this was taking place within a computer so it was perfect here.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. I love that movie and there was talk of a sequel that seems to have fizzled off. Also, the Chronicles of Narnia movie series. the Silver chair is supposedly in production... the series biggest problem however still probably stems from most pople have read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe...and that's it for the series. Matrix - really surprised we haven't gotten a fourth. Especially in this day and age. I know rumors pop up every now and then. A fifth if you count THE ANIMATRIX. The poor reception of Reloaded and ESPECIALLY Revolutions is what killed it for a while post. That said as of last year someone is penning a treatment for a new Matrix Movie... that the writer said was not meant to be a remake or full on reboot but set in the universe that was setup. at one point Lana Wachowski did say that she found the idea of doign another Matrix movie "repellent" at one point so I doubt they'd be attached...but given the overall quality of their films recently that's not entirely a bad thing. Keanu said he'd only be involved with their involvement so I wouldn't count on Neo making an appearance either.

Not a written rule, though it usually happens because any show popular enough to make it to 8 seasons will have seen the contract demands of its primary cast swell significantly in that time, especially if Hollywood is knocking. The Big Bang Theory cast, for example, started making over a million dollars per episode around season 7, which is more than any of them could reasonably expect to make doing movies over the same time period.

Starship Troopers - The first movie is pure fun. Sequels sucked. Something I'd love to see rebooted. A TV series would be amazing.
Odd choice but, Spider-Man. I know we get alot of movies... BUT, for me Spidey is perfect for a long running TV series given his huge cast of supporting characters.
Spidey TV show based on the Ultimate Spider-Man comics would be great.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense for SAG to make some sort of TV blanket contract that would force a massive increase in labor costs on precisely season 8 of every show. I believe they would know that such a contract would just wind up making lots of people lose their jobs after Season 7. For TNG specificially, I remember reading that they had decided during Season 5 that the show would stop at 7 seasons. I suppose they just wanted to hurry up and start doing movies.

I would've liked Mission Hill and Undergrads to have gotten more than one season. And Agent Carter to get more than 2. Those would be good as well as another season of Clone High. Which given how Phil Lord and Chris Miller's stock has risen over the years (Getting fired from SOLO not withstanding) that some attempt would be made to bring it back and resolve the cliffhanger that the series ended on. I know there was the whole Gandhi controversy, but I recall in an interview that either Lord and Miller said that if the show was ever brought back for season 2 they would resolve that by stating that the Gandhi on the show was actually a clone of a totally random person that also happened to be named Gandhi, and not the famous one that brought sweeping changes to the country of India. Which would fit perfectly in the context of the show.

The other part of it is fatigue on the part of both the actors and the creative team. Although security is nice in an industry where you're never quite sure where your next job is coming from, there's only so much material you can create before it starts to become repetitive and your actors may want to stretch their legs with other projects. A lot of shows would rather go out on a high after six or seven seasons than be scraping at the bottom of the barrel in the tenth. For syndication purposes seven seasons is usually the golden number. The minimum requirement is 88 episodes (four seasons, reduced from 100 episodes when 22-episode seasons became the industry norm), but seven seasons allows syndication networks to air a different episode every day and have the run of the show last a standard TV season before they have to start again, which is why a lot of TV shows in the past used to end at the seventh season even when the ratings would indicate that there was still demand for more.

Chuck, Firefly, Dollhouse, Angel, Jericho, and Daria are all TV shows I would love more of.
And movie wise, I agree that The Matrix would be interesting to see continue to see what is done with it. Can't think of anything else at the moment. Sure there are others though.

Another movie in the Strange Days universe would have been good for me. And movie wise, I agree that The Matrix would be interesting to see continue to see what is done with it. I'd have loved to have seen a post-truce movie. There were certainly a lot of interesting plot threads in the Matrix Online game that could've been explored.

Playmakers. The ESPN show about a wild ass professional football team. Starred the great Omar Gooding. It was fantastic, they only did one season. NFL was not about that and hd ESPN pull the plug. I was sad.
