I can't see them killing off Rick.
Think he will end up going into some sort of self enforced exhile, leaving the door open for a return/future guest appearances.
At least thats what they should do. Everyone is expecting him to be killed off.

It seems more like a hiatus with Maggie, but I don’t know how they can go about her just disappearing from the show for a long period of time without getting killed. It seems it’ll turn into the Daryl & Negan show for the last few seasons that are left. I remember hearing awhile back the plan was to do 12 seasons.

Either way it seems they are sort of limping to the end. I guess this is good for side characters like Ezekiel, Carol, Eugene etc to be given bigger roles to handle everything but it's a tall task to handle Rick leaving along with Maggie coming and going and how they explain that
Negan as a personality can carry the show as you warm up to him in the comic but you also had that Carl and Rick connection there with him. Just seems more now it's about piecing it together
I guess the bright side is if the Whispers are responsible for making Rick and Maggie disappear for however long they are gone then they are instantly better than they were in the comic

I feel like Negan will be the rebellious babyface helping out Alexandria against the Whisperers.

Surprised no one posted in this thread for the season premiere
Guess everyone has that feeling were they aren't as hyped as they used to be about it coming on. The time skip in general put a damper on things thanks to this arc but knowing Rick is leaving has really not made it feel important in the sense of you wonder what's next

A pretty boring premiere aside from finding out about the new couple on the show and a long running feud between two characters finally coming to an end. I’m being vague because I’m sure a lot of people aren’t in any rush to watch these days. The quality of the show has been going downhill for years now. Insert some joke about the show dying a slow death like the zombies on it. I’ll stick around until the wheels fall off since I’ve watched since the beginning but I’ll be ok with it once they do.

It was a boring as hell premiere. I think knowing what's going to happen (or at least thinking I know) really makes me not care. Maggies heel turn made her come across as the new baddie, Darryl was terrible, I think the Gregory arc maybe could've been stretched out a bit longer. It just stunk. Straight up.

I thought it was... okay (I have to admit, I liked that scene of them leaving an abandoned and overgrown Washington), but I think I was a bit more hyped for the last season of Fear The Walking Dead (and was beyond relieved when they abandoned heading to Georgia in the season finale). I don't think knowing that Rick isn't gonna last this half of the season has helped much with that, if at all.

Here's the problem with Maggie in general: She only mattered in Glenn related matters. Her character was never much beyond "Glenn's wife." Once you kill Glenn off then Maggie doesn't especially have much reason to exist on the show, so you get this side plot for multiple seasons of her lame power struggle with Gregory since it's not like she was ever going to get any real revenge on Negan.

I think the show has some usefulness still in the complete grand scheme of things. The problem with the Walking Dead is that until recently it never knew how to maintain it's hot momentum, before they rode the wave and kept people interested with amazing episode, after amazing episode, and people remained invested. I honestly feel when Negan killed Glenn and Abraham, then they followed it up with the centric episode of Ezekiel and Carol it deflated A LOT of viewers in my opinion. You don't have one of the most intense, violent, and emotional episodes and follow it up with a slow boring one in the process. What they did and maybe this is a horrible way of explaining the concept but I'll see if this makes sense. It's like if Breaking Bad had that episode where Walt loses his mind in the crawl space after Skyler gave all of their money to Ted. Most people remember how intense, frenetic, emotional, and dramatic that particular episode was and it kept you invested. Imagine if after that episode they decided it follow it up with that episode centering around Jesse and Walt trying to kill that fly. That's exactly what the Walking Dead showrunners did. Add in killing off Carl who is an important character to the Whisperers arc it killed the momentum even more. I honestly believe Andrew and Lauren are leaving because of how they killed off the character of Carl and they see no reason in sticking around. The show will not survive long with Daryl and Negan being the main characters. With Andrew leaving how long does Danai stick around too? The more I think about it the more I believe Rick will most likely get killed off and be the {Spoiler}head on the pike . Character wise it makes no sense for him to go into a self-imposed exile and leave Judith and Michonne behind.

So I've just watched the Season Opener. I hate to say it but it was pretty meh.. Definitely one of the weaker Season Openers. But for the positives - The episode actually started off well, the whole Washington DC scenes were pretty cool. - It could just be me but there was a serious nod to the opening scene of "Day of the Dead" especially when one Zombie looked like a nod to this guy. - On the subject of Zombies.. That one Zombie with no eyes with the Spiders coming out of it was the ultimate nightmare fuel.. I don't know what would scare me most.. The Zombie itself or the Spiders >.< - Ezekiel's escape was pretty thrilling as well. - Shame about that guys death.. Being bit then kicked by a horse.. Damn Unfortunately the episode took a massive nose dive after that. - Too much nothing going on.. The saviours scene was ok and how some are still dedicated to Negan. - Rick and Michonne in bed was boring. The only good bit was Gregory being hung. So yeah a bit of a disappointing Season opener, I hope it picks up from here.

I don’t think I can handle The Walking Dead without Rick 😩
Rick IS the show. The fact that we’re going to get an ending that doesn’t involve Rick makes me feel like I’ve wasted the past 8 years of my life watching it.
I’m hoping he just “leaves” and doesn’t get killed off. I want the door to be open for a return.

From an artistic standpoint there's no way he'd go into a self imposed exile leaving behind the two people he loves. Either he's going to die and be {Spoiler}head on the pike or he goes down in a blaze of glory.
