How many dark and edgy DC projects have to fail before they get the hint? See I think Dark could work for this series... I mean I am assuming it's based around Raven's demonic side. but they take Dark to mean that everyone's gotta go around f***ing murdering people and being massive edgelords. and it goes back to a problem DC has been having with like all of their movies. "Hey, you know these characters that you love some of which have been popular for almsot 100 years? They all suck... we fixed them for you" A pacifist? that's boring she's gotta be super violent and beat the shit out of everyone pretty much to death. A rather well adjusted crimefighter... nah he's gotta be edgy and angsty and shoot guns and break peoples necks cause he doesn't give a f***! Exactly. I mean, the Trigon stories in the '80s Titans comics were pretty damn dark for the time, but the characters were their usual selves. You can tell dark stories with these characters without making the characters themselves dark.

That looks more like a fan trailer than something official.
Also, remember when Starfire's actress defended that leaked photo of her saying that it was taken out of context? Yeah, this trailer didn't help her case.
If they ever offer a free trial period, I'm just going to use it to binge Young Justice.

Yeah, I was even fine with that and said alright it was a candid shot... maybe it's only part of it or it's something she finds... But yeah... no, it was literally what we saw on the set... and it's what they are hyping her outfit as... in all of the cast photos and the dummies...

Even one of DC's Writers is mocking this trailer.
(to be fair she said she will wait until the episodes air to officially critique it... but still...)

(to be fair she said she will wait until the episodes air to officially critique it... but still...) Which of course hasn't prevented salty DC edgelords from chiming in in the replies about how nobody calls out Marvel's Netflix shows for being dark, and throwing in snide comments about sheep and having a taste for ass.

So this takes place in the same universe as that New Mutants film, right?
Bless most of those actors, because a couple of them look really good, and I like the looks of several of them. I don't think this is going to be helpful to them, though.

Well it's easier for people to go after scapegoats and whataboutisms than actually argue points. The Marvel Netflix shows are pretty dark... but the Alias comics? Were also pretty damned dark and Jessica Jones in print and on the show are pretty much identical or at the very least close enough so you can tell they are versions of the same character. The Trigon stuff was damned dark in the comics... but... Dove from this looks like she's ripping a guys face off... which is WILDLY out of character considering her name is DOVE and is supposed to be the Ultra-pacifist.

I'm willing to wait for a second trailer before I outright condemn it, and I'm glad it's not just yet more Arrow-verse style, but I will say that I am not exactly majorly optimistic.

You know, I never thought I would say this, but these character designs look worse than Inhumans. INHUMANS.WTF, DC/Warner Bros.? Did you spend all of the money on Raven's power effects and Robin's costume? Was the remaining wardrobe budget $10 and a pack of gum? Do you know when a wig is a bad wig? WHEN IT LOOKS LIKE A F***ING WIG. That thing on Starfire's head? Doesn't even look like a wig! It looks like that crinkle-cut tissue paper you put in children's Easter baskets! Here's a side-by-side of Anna Diop (the actress) and Starfire: Literally all you had to do was die her hair, maybe give her some extensions, and NOT make her look like a streetwalker. WHY WAS THAT SO DIFFICULT?! But why am I surprised that Robin seems to be the only one they put any visual effort into? I've said it before; Batman makes them money, so everything has to be Batman. Everyone is secondary to the Almighty Billionaire with PTSD.

Titans isn't going to sell me on this, hopefully the Swamp Thing show ends up being better than this is looking...but I dunno. Oh, btw, pricing details of the service will be $7.99 per month, or $74.99 per year. Early adopters who sign up for the year long deal will be entered into a contest to win tickets to the Aquaman premiere and can get an extra 3 months free. Apparently you'll be able to download comics on the service to read offline too. They've also announced that the next show on DC Universe will be Stargirl. io9.gizmodo.com/the-next-dc-universe-streaming-show-is-stargirl-1827731881

Here's the thing that really shows they don't know what the holy hell they are doing/shows that whoever is making this knows jack shit about the characters. They have Dove. Jesus tap-dancing Christ Dove, the freaking embodiment of pacifism, brutally fighting people, often in ways that can only assuredly lead to their deaths. Dove is supposed to be all about solving problems logically and nonviolently. So we have Dove, but they have her fighting like Hawk. Just...f***ing wut. Apparently this thing was written by the guy who wrote Batman & Robin. He clearly only knows how to take characters from one extreme to another. What a hack. Oh christ, Akiva Goldsman is writing this?! It explains a lot. Dude's straight up garbaggio. I have a feeling his characterization of Starfire is that he got his hands on the entire run of Red Hood And The Outsiders and the thing he took away from it was that Starfire was completely DTF. Hopefully that isn't how he writes her, but... I'm even more worried about what this is going to mean for Doom Patrol, because Elasti Girl and Negative Man are supposed to be in this, so that means this is a backdoor for that series, which means that THAT show could be as grimdark as this, and not the crazy, super-meta story that the comic's famous for.

At least Doom Patrol being thematically (and literally?) dark would make sense? There are plenty of bleak stories from the Morrison run that could be fodder for the TV show. As much as people love Doom Patrol for the meta stuff, there's a pervasive element of body horror to the majority of the series. But given how unappealing the costumes are and how the sets and lighting look like they were put together with on a $5 budget, I have no clue how someone like Robotman could even look passable.

I can only imagine how they're going to ruin Negative Man. "OK, so this guy just has cloth bandages over his face? Got it." "Psh, yeah, right, not on our budget! Just go get a rubber mummy mask from Party City, that's good enough. We're shooting in pitch black anyways, no one's gonna notice it!"
