Everything Austin was doing. He was on some next level shit in 2001. Austin was garbage during the invasion. I couldn't wait to get him off my screen. He was a big part of the burial of the entire alliance despite being their 'leader'. That stupidly long promo where they were trying to convince him to stay because they'd be lost without him was especially egregious and made the entire invasion look the worst it had until that point, which is saying a lot.

The idea I get from this was that outside of the general plot, the Invasion was good!

The birth of The Hurricane. I much preferred that character over Sugar Shane Helms. Not to mention mild-mannered reporter Shane Helms, and the debut of Mighty Molly!

I liked the tragic irony that Vince McMahon himself called for the return of the old "Stone Cold" and got exactly what he asked for, the very "Stone Cold" that would do absolutely anything to screw Vince McMahon over.

That overall initial feeling of hope. That finally what we all dreamed about was in the verge of happening. It ended being a pee dream, but a fun one.

JR and Heyman - either they really don't care for each other IRL or they are underrated actors.
Test of all people - he was improving by leaps and bounds both in ring and on the mic during this period. Shame demons meant he never made the most of it.
Regal - his character work really came into its own during this period.
RVD - committed the sin of getting over before they wanted you to but didn't care and ran with it.
Bloody hell, how stupid was it to bring Flair in the night after it ended, imagine him as the head of WCW instead of Shane.

Not just Flair, but within barely a few months there was Flair and Steiner both of whom could've led WCW, the NWO who could've been a fun tweener entity in the invasion and Mysterio. I get from the wrestler's position they sat out for the money, but surely the WWE would have that many times over if they had them for the invasion.

-Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight wrestling in the WWF immediately improved. Gregory Helms, Tajiri, Kidman, X-Pac, Malenko, Lynn etc. made for a great division to watch for the in-ring action. -It was cool to see The Rock carry the WCW Championship and defend it several times on free TV. -Kanyon was freaking great and someone you wanted to see punched non-stop. -Seeing RVD's first few months in the company. He beat nearly every big name there was to beat at this time; Austin, Rock, Angle, Taker, Kane, Hardy's, Jericho, Big Show, Edge and was involved with main event storylines.

The entrance set for the Invasion PPV was pretty cool, with WWE and Alliance members coming out from opposite sides of the stage and down separate ramps that formed into one. It almost killed Trish, though...

The rhyming contest
Rock: "Booker T & Shane, the punk ass sucka & The silver spoon motherf***a Jericho: "Look what's standing in the ring (Steph & Ryno) we've got a manbeast & a Hosebeast, I mean we're dealing with the gore & The whore"

To add to the ones previously posted. The Stone Cold, Undertaker, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, and Vince McMahon segment. The Old Stone Cold returns. Is that the one where is Austin repeating whatever Vince is saying and slapping guys on their chests? Cos that was some funny stuff.

Or, WWE could have just slowly brought in the guys they could afford and waited until after their contracts expired. I mean, a Booker T/Stone Cold feud over who's the better champion could have lasted them a few months. Also, I'm still upset those two never had a proper match. Yeah, we got that funny grocery store match, but I would have killed for an actual match between them.

Back on topic, there were quite a few great matches during the angle, like the RVD/Jeff Hardy Ladder Match at SummerSlam and the Survivor Series Winner Takes All match.

Steiner was a year later and even then in really no condition to be wrestling. And i believe its been said often that Vince knew he could have bought out all those contracts and made his money back and more but the WWE locker room would have revolted over WCW guys getting that much money.

The early, pre-Tacoma Raw reaction to WCW, with everything they were doing getting face pops and their wrestlers, from DDP on down, getting cheered. It’s still unfathomable to me how it all went wrong thanks to one hostile crowd in a market that wasn’t traditional WCW territory in the first place. Yeah, they really couldn't wait all the time until they were in Virginia.... The next week. After all, that time was the time to debut ECW because they wouldn't be in Philly for a few mo- three weeks.

Flair and the NWO where very close.

The Angle vs. Austin feud in the Summer of 2001 was outstanding. Angle should have had a long run as a face after that.
