For the Blues, 1996. You trade for Wayne Gretzky to pair with Brett Hull, and you just think it's the year you finally win a Cup. And somewhat 2014, when we finally beat the Blackhawks and got to the WCF. For the Cardinals, maybe 2004. But mostly the years I thought we would really push, we did. Back when I used to watch the NFL, the 1999 Buccaneers. I never was a fan of the Rams in St. Louis because when I started watching football, the Rams were in LA. We got Bears games, and I actually dug the Bucs unis. In 99, everything came together for the Bucs. They had one of the best defenses of all time. And of course they ran into the new offensive juggernaut: the St. Louis Rams. Held them to 11 points, lost to a beautiful late 3rd down TD pass and then a BS call on the Bert Immanuel Rule, which was overwhelmingly changed that off-season. Haven't really had an NBA team, but I was a big KG fan early in his career. Really thought 2004 was the year he would get over the hump, he was a monster that season. But they didn't have an answer at C for Shaq, and got whooped by the Lakers. This for me, I will say the 00-01 Rams was looking for a repeat which came close until they dealt with a close game with NE. I will never forgive Kennan for what happened with Gretzky and Hull after that season. 97 should have easily been where they push again, but he blamed and pulled the contract for Gretzky to stay and likely retired as a Blue.

Keenan f***ed up a roster that would have demolished the West if they had more time to gel. And that West was as loaded as it has been maybe ever withthe Avs and Wings being nearly unstoppable. We kinda lucked into having a next prime after that somehow, after trading all of our best players or having them leave. That 2001 team with Quinnville and Demitra and Pronger etc really made a push, but they weren't as talented as that 97 team should have been. It's a damn shame, and something I've never gotten over. I still hate Keenan.

Brutal. Perennially one of the all time memorable “What if?” moments in sports.

As a die hard Carolina basketball fan, I’ve been fortunate enough to see four national titles in my lifetime. However, I’ve seen more than a few close calls with very good teams that should’ve won the whole thing or at least a Final Four appearance
1998-Still one of the most dominant teams I’ve seen in my life in Chapel Hill. Beat some outstanding teams on the way to a Final Four. Get to the Alamodome in San Antonio and they completely come undone. Utah was a good team, but Carolina was better and they didn’t play like it.
2007-A very frustrating and up and down season. Swept Duke, won the ACC regular season and tournament. They however lost to some teams they had no business losing against. They get to the regional final against Georgetown and they have a 11 point lead with 12 minutes left. Instead of getting the ball inside, they jack up a bunch of threes. Georgetown hits a late 3 to tie it, Carolina missed a potential game winner at the buzzer and it goes to OT. Heels get dominated in OT, absolutely devastating loss.
2008-This was one heck of a team. A lot of veteran talent and strong inside play. Finished with a program best 36 wins and was undefeated on the road. Got to the Final Four against Kansas in San Antonio. The Alamodome once again is a bad luck charm. Carolina gets beat down early, makes a valiant comeback, but they run out of gas. On a personal note, my Dad passed away suddenly just a week later. That was the last game my Dad and I watched together. Carolina won the title the very next year and it was almost a year to the day of my Dad’s passing.
2012-One of the most promising teams in recent Carolina history. So much talent. Had some tough losses but they rebounded with a dominant win a Cameron against Duke. Then the injury bug rears it’s ugly head in the postseason. Lost the starting point guard on a goon like play in which he broke his wrist. Lost a tough game to Kansas in the regional final.
2016-Was an incredibly fun team and had great leadership. Won the ACC regular season and tournament titles. Got all the way to the title game against Villanova. Led by 5 at halftime and then the refs decided to take over the game. Carolina’s big men couldn’t even get close to anybody without being called for a foul. Nova takes a 10 point lead late and then Carolina makes a rally. The game gets tied with 4 seconds left on one of the most incredible three pointers I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, Nova gets off way too good of a look and hits a buzzer beater to win the title. This one hurt, but thankfully they won the title the next season.

The Jim Harbaugh era Niners. The first year they defintely overachieved beyond expectations, the second year they should have won the big dance and the 3rd year was destiny personified. I can't complain. Those were great years to be a Niner fan even with the disappointment at the end of them after a near decade of disaster.

2012-13 Penguins.
#1 Seed in the east, Kunitz tearing it up in the regular season, bring in Iginla, Morrow, and Crankshaft at the TDL.
The Morrow gets injured and never gets back to an acceptable level, Fleury shits the bed against the Isles and Vokoun has to come in, Crosby takes a slapshot to the face from his own teammate in Orpik, Bylsma insists on playing Iginla on his off-wing (and sometimes on the 3rd line)...
...and ultimately get pushed around physically by Boston in the ECF.
Thankfully, we'll never see the hideous Dark Blue jerseys from that season ever again.

The 1992 and 1993 Houston Oilers.
1992 - We all know what happened. The Oilers choke away a 35 to 3 halftime lead to the Bills.
1993 - Started of shaky but lead to a division win after an 11 game winning streak, only for Joe Montana and the Chiefs to make a forth quarter comeback from 7-13 to end the divisional playoffs 28-20 Chiefs. Slamming the door on the Oilers.

The 2008 New York Giants were going to repeat as Super Bowl Champions had it not been for Plaxico and his dumb shit. They beat every AFC/NFC Championship team who played that season (Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Arizona & Philadelphia) in convincing fashion, particularly the Cards & Ravens. And what stung the most was the fact that the Giants main weapon against the Eagles offensively at that time was in fact Plaxico. If he's in the lineup, they edge out McNabb and Co., waste the Cards at the Meadowlands and narrowly beat Big Ben in the Super Bowl. But noooooo. Plax goes Chedda-Bob, the defense runs out of gas, and McNabb gets another opportunity to throw away a Championship game.
The mid-2000s Yankees were plagued with circumstantial crap that derailed their run. Kenny Rogers turning the clock back 10 years and smudging on pine tar comes to mind. And Torre not pulling the team off the field while Chamberlain was being attacked by insects in Cleveland is another sore spot.
1994 New York Knicks. Why was John Starks allowed to shoot 17 shots in a deciding game? Why?

The 2007 Dallas Cowboys.
Sure, they got stomped by New England earlier in the season, but I think they could've went toe to toe with them in the Super Bowl.
Then they lose to the Giants in the Divisional.

2007-08 Lakers...I was just one year off.
2001 St. Louis Rams...still blind sides that me that we didn't win.
2014 Baltimore Orioles...fate was on our side all season and against the Royals it heel turned on us.
2006 Notre Dame...oh boy, that went South sooo fast.

After landing Adrain Gonzalez & Carl Crawford the Red Sox were optimistic at the beginning of 2011: Nobody knew at the start of the season just how destructive the frozen yogurt wars would get though Let's not forget all those people who decided to fight city hall

Any time the A’s make a Cinderella run to the playoffs...and promptly choke in the wildcard/ALDS. 2001 was particularly painful, down to Jeremy Giambi’s non-slide and a solo shot by Jorge Posada.
2011 49ers. The franchise is turned around, we dominate the Packers in the playoffs...then shit the bed in the Super Bowl against the Ravens.
2015-16 Warriors. Best ever regular season record, Curry unanimously voted MVP, we’re up 3-1 in the Finals...then the granddaddy of all choke jobs.
The Sharks. Every year.

Last year with Crystal Palace. Had a decent end of the season behind us, got some decent signings in and Frank de Boer in. Sure, de Boer had a bad stint at Inter, but it was a bad place at the time. Turns out he was a shite manager, who played people out of position and tried to totally switch up the style of play. 77 days later he was gone and we were bottom of the table with no goals.
Another one wayyyy earlier, when I was around 10 years old. AC Allianssi, the Finnish premier league team I liked back then, got a "major investment" into their side from Asia, with multitude of players coming in mid-season due to "poor standard of current players". All of the new players made their debut in the same match, which the team promptly lost 8-0. Turns out the new owner had fixed the match. Teams reputation took a bad hit, audience collapsed and the club went bankrupt months later.

94, 95, 97, 2016 Indians.
2007 Browns. f*** you. They were a damn fine team. Only 1 loss at home, and if not for one bad call in Arizona, they would have went to the playoffs and had home field for the first game.
