Phoenix is definitely the big anchor that leads me to being optimistic about the film. Dudes a chameleon. He's very selective. He doesnt want to do a sequel/be part of a cinematic universe. And has gone on record of saying he doesn't give a f*** about fans expectations/doubts. Those are all good signs to me.
Phillips I'm more wary about. I'm a fan of most of his comedies and his directing style isn't terrible but I haven't seen War Dogs, which seems to be his most serious foray.

If this movie is terrible, I assume it won't be because of Joaquin Phoenix doing a shitty job. It's never the actor's fault when it comes to WB.

I'm more optimistic about this project then not. More than anything, I wish we could be out of the loop of the production. It's too big to to not hear anything.

Stills for a better look (keeping min mind this was a screen test and not necessarily the final design)

I really don't think that's his "final form", so to speak. Probably paint he throws on to commit a robbery or something.

Uh-oh, they look to be using the Ledgerish style...TDK fanboys are gonna LOVE that.... What's "TDK" about that? Cool little teaser. Who knows how he'll end up actually looking. But I like the Pagliacci vibe. The "realistic" approach with the face paint. Well either way at least it's not the Jared Leto look.

Well either way at least it's not the Jared Leto look. As others have pointed out, I don't think this is necessarily the final form. I guess it'll have a "realistic" foundation as several early reports of the script likened it to an 80s crime thriller. But whereas Heath took on the anarchist approach, this seems to lean a lot towards Moore's TKJ.

He torpedoed his own career for awhile there for the sake of selling a fauxumentary..... which then got shit reviews and no one saw. Dude is really talented, but being committed to his art doesn’t always mean a quality product.

I do recall he had been on a hell of a run up to the point, got burnt out, came back and has been in a hell of another run since then.

A John Wayne Gacy/Pogo the Clown inspired Joker makeup is such a logical idea, its surprising its taken this long for the concept to be utilized.

Stills for a better look (keeping min mind this was a screen test and not necessarily the final design) That a 100 time better then the methhead mumble rapper look that Jared Leto was trying to do in Suicide Squad.

If this movie is terrible, I assume it won't be because of Joaquin Phoenix doing a shitty job. Given its pedigree, it's going to be difficult for this movie to be terrible. It may not be what people were expecting, but it's going to take a lot to screw this up in the quality department. ...Snyder's about to get involved, isn't he?

It doesn't take a lot to sell me on anything Joker. All you have to do is basically do anything except whatever the hell Jared Leto did.
I'm excited.

A John Wayne Gacy/Pogo the Clown inspired Joker makeup is such a logical idea, its surprising its taken this long for the concept to be utilized. For all the many faults with Leto's Joker you could take one glance at him and automatically register that he's supposed to be Joker. Ledger's Joker was much different than anything we'd seen before, but there were still enough recognisable elements for you to know that he was Joker. Looking at the test footage, even though I know Phoenix is portraying Joker, it just looks like thin Gacy.
