So, as someone not familiar with the US political system... is it common, possible or unlikely that a county mayor becomes governor? It’s very possible. Before he was Governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura served as city mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota... which is a respectably-sized city (6th largest in the state), if not necessarily a county.

If you're asking if there's a way where if the governor resigns/dies that a mayor would be named to that position, the answer is no. That responsibility would fall on the Lieutenant Governor or Deputy Governor (depending on the state, but it's the same general role). Think of them as a "Vice President" of their respective states, serving as the acting governor in the absence of the Governor. Mayors are simply limited to their jurisdiction, and don't have a line of succession towards leading the state. That said, it's very common for politicians to run on a platform using their experience leading as Mayor to take the office of Governor, not unlike what many Governors have done in the past in their bids for President (President Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas, Vice-President Mike Pence was Governor of Indiana).

We are truly in the weirdest timeline.
I'm going to guess that's the end of his wrestling career, then. I dunno what was more anticlimactic due to injuries, Team Hell No reuniting this year or The Shield reuniting last year. I wish he would've had 1-on-1s with AJ and Joe to wrap it up, but obviously he had that injury that derailed things a bit.
Always hear good things about Glenn as a human being, so good for him.

So, as someone not familiar with the US political system... is it common, possible or unlikely that a county mayor becomes governor? Really, the only outright requirements for running for governor are being at least X years old, American citizenship, and having residency in that state. I'm not sure if the age requirement is federally mandated or if it varies by state, off the top of my head. Like my state's last three governors have been an ambassador to Germany, a US Attorney, and a US Senator with next to no experience in elected office held beforehand.
Glenn Jacobs can certainly use the political experience to go to higher office, though. I'm not sure if that's his ambition, but I guess we'll see.

Just goes to show you, if you have a dream you can't let little things like a criminal record that includes assault, arson, kidnapping, necrophilia, desecrating a grave, false imprisonment, and god knows what else get in your way. To be fair, it was never proven that Kane screwed Katie Vick postmortem. The official police report just states they did it, but it was Hunter who suggested the act happened after she croaked.
