I can see Big Ben going his full career as a Pittsburgh Steeler. He is constantly restructuring his contract to free up space for the Steelers to better compete. Add on the fact they drafted a QB and he's not going to do that flakey shit he's been doing past few years about retiring or not

Montreal Canadiens used to be all about it. Then Marc Bergevin came along as GM.
"If you want loyalty, get a dog" indeed. Said that about Andrei Markov last year after the Habs nickle-and-dimed him after being associated with the team since 1998. That the Habs would treat Markov fairly was such a foregone conclusion that Markov hadn't had an agent in years. The man lived in Montreal all year long, had just gotten Canadian citizenship and had his kids in French school (which, for many reasons, resonates a lot with the local populace).
What a jackass. I've seen Habs fan dislike management figures and even players. But, for trading PK Subban, for his treatment of Andrei Markov, for not offering Alexander Radulov the equivalent to the Dallas offer he wanted despite having more than enough cap space to do it, people HATE this motherf***er. And you can pinpoint the start of it to the Subban trade.

I mean Jesus, a guy who has been synonymous with the Canadiens for a long while, and they basically threw his shit out in the street. And you can't tell me there wasn't a place for him on that dogshit product they threw out on the ice last year. Also, they traded away the young stud defenseman who you would point to and say "We needed to get Markov out to get Sergachev more minutes and more featured." That whole year was a giant embarrassment for Montreal as a franchise.

Loyalty is the exception, not the rule these days. I mean if the 49er's could trade Montana, arguably the best QB of all time to the Cheifs, and Jordan, again another GOAT, though not traded, became be a Wizard, then it makes lifers of a team like Kobe, Duncan, and Elway a little more special to their fans.

Some players just stick with a team like a baseball to a chest protector

Jerry Reinsdorf traded away his all-time favorite White Sox player (Harold Baines) 3 times. That's why his number was retired after the first deal.
But Harold knows there is always a job waiting for him whenever he wants to come back. They even make up positions so he can have a title; I think right now he's "assistant hitting coach".
