I truly fear another video game crash is on the horizon, and this is just another sign.

Well that sucks, especially with The Walking Dead game fans since I believe they are in the middle of the final season of it. Talk about tripping on the finish line.

Well, that really f***ing sucks. I buy most, if not all, of Telltales games as they’ve become one of my favourite developers over the past few years.

A company that has released quality games on a constant basis that suddenly shuts down? That just screams major problems in the gaming industry, an industry that has many problems right now. I don't think it'll be a 1983 level crash, but it will be bad enough that major changes will need to be made.

Episode 2 is slated to be released on the 25th. As of right now, its unclear whether or not that will the final episode since all of their other projects have been cancelled.

A company that has released quality games on a constant basis that suddenly shuts down? Nah, in this case they dug their own grave. The Walking Dead doing great had them thinking they were hot shit so they got these huge properties which would need more sales while also increasing their team size multiple times. They just weren't able to recoup that success and so on and so forth. Sad but it is what it is. Also this I've heard of Telltale having bad management before so yeah. They got those properties, kept growing and kept making games but that just didn't give them enough sales to sustain it hence why they collapsed. I think the fact that they had some great games made people think they sold well when they really didn't.

People just didn't realize HOW bad the management was.

That sucks. Telltale made some great games.
So what happens to the franchises? Could another studio, like say, the company who make Life is Strange buy the rights to some and continue the good selling series like The Walking Dead?

Hope these people find jobs quickly.

Hopefully they find work,I know how that industyr is harsh.
But honestly Telltale didnt help itself, they "sold out" to only make game about other IP`s and chose the laziest game design to do so, which maybe it was fine for one series or two. But an awful choice to make your "style".
They should have forget their own original identity as theyw ere doing with Sam and Max and The Poker games. Not an AAA wonderland, but they were in the way to mark their niche. It just screams BUSINESS DECISION , where the suits say "it is a popular ip and a simple game,JUST DO IT"
and of course the f***ing game development team pays the price

That's so sad and depressing. That company was so horribly managed, wow.

Wait, WTF? I never played their games myself but this is a genuine shock considering how popular they were. I would have never guessed they were having money issues.

They offered a niche product and were heavily reliant on licenses, constantly rolling the dice, trying to find the next Walking Dead so there's no wonder they ended up in trouble. Unfortunately it's the employees who'll suffer, they were still hiring, getting people to move cross-country, knowing full well they were in deep trouble, that's unforgivable.

Sucks to hear. I imagine there'll be a LOT of stories coming out of this about behind the scenes drama.
That said I honestly never could get that into their stuff despite being a big fan of the genre. Granted that might've gone differently if my one attempt to play episode 2 of Batman didn't crash immediately.

Another thought that came to mind. For the people that bought the Season Pass for The Walking Dead, are they getting a refund, or are they basically shit outta luck and stuck with half a product that they paid at full price? Because that may be grounds for a lawsuit

Sad to hear. Even if the only game I've played of theirs was "Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People", it was good to see the point and click adventure genre alive.
But seeing the number of franchises they went with, sadly not that much of a surprise to keep those licenses being their downfall.
