Time to rename the thread.
Also, the Coyotes are going to most likely move to Houston before 2021, and I cannot wait.

with the Seattle team official, I hope they revamp the league. 4 divisions of 4 team per conference much like football. Division winners clinch playoffs then highest point totals. reseed every round.
East Atlantic Division- NY Rangers, NY Islanders, New Jersey, Philadelphia Central- Detroit, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Boston Northeast- Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo SouthEast- Washington, Tampa Bay, Florida, Carolina
West Pacific- Los Angeles, Anaheim, Seattle, San Jose Canadian- Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary Midwest- Chicago, St Louis, Nashville, Minnesota Southwest- Vegas, Dallas, Arizona, Colorado

Ryan Reaves lit Tom Wilson up last night. He hit his head on the ice and didn't look great leaving. Great to see that guy get rocked, but I hope he's not injured.

It's bad enough right now where the #2 playoff seed could conceivably have 10+ fewer points then the #3 seed. It's even worse if the #5 seed had more points then multiple teams seeded ahead of them. Just for an example, this is how the Eastern playoffs would be seeded based on today's standings. 1. Tampa (43) 2. Toronto (40) 3. Columbus (32) 4. NYI (29) 5. Buffalo (38) 6. Washington (33) 7. Boston (32) 8. Montreal (31)

Two eight team divisions is kind of silly and pointless if you want to change the playoff format to the highest point totals.

In theory it should be 2 Conferences, and Top 8 from each make the playoffs seeded in order. But for the purpose of balancing schedules and travel, as well as trying to stimulate rivalries that just doesn't work. Because of that, I don't think you'll ever find a perfect solution, it'll always be a situation of "which one sucks less".

They'll never, ever, ever do it, but just take the top 16 teams, which is a full half the league when Seattle starts.

My biggest fear with 32 teams is the NHL will once again abandon every team playing in every other team’s barn at least once a year. They did it for a long time and as a San Jose fan living in Philly it really sucked.
As long as they keep that, it will leave 34 games on the schedule for divisional play. If the NHL expands the schedule by 1 game it will allow for 5 interdivisional games for each team to play eachother, avoiding having to setup a yearly rotation.
If we do that, I propose the following,
Two divisions of 8 per conference, sending the top 3 teams in each division as the respective 1-6 seeds and two wild card winners from each conference.
Here is my wrinkle though, to win a #1 seed from your division would be based off divisional record only, and guarantees a home playoff series for the first round. Then reseeding happens.
So under this format if the Islanders go 25-5-5 in the division, while finishing 32-38-15 overall, and Pittsburgh goes 22-5-8 in the division with a 52–21-12 overall, the Islanders win the division, and Pittsburgh is the #2 seed from the Metro.
It could work in any sport too.
If the Dolphins go 6-10, but 6-0 in the AFC East they get the division title and home playoff game, while the Patriots have to settle for the 4th AFC seed despite being 12-4.
What ya’ll think?

Came across Canadian journalists (think it was Bourne and Mirtle) having a laugh about Rasmus Dahlin's stats from when he was 14. The point was basically "why would they let this kid play at these levels that are way too easy for him, since he got 48 points in 15 games at this level and 27 goals in 5 games at this other level".
Expect they forgot that there's relegation and promotion in Swedish leagues. The team where he got 48 points in 15 games got promoted to second tier with Dahlin being their second in scoring. Yeah, he was way too good for that league, but there was a clear reason to let him play. And calling him up to play the whole season in the men's squad wouldn't have made sense, since that side was playing in the FIFTH tier of Swedish hockey. Not really a place for a young talent to develop.

Why does the NHL allow icing when a team is shorthanded? That makes no sense to me. It would be like the NBA raising the basket to 12' for free throw attempts.

It allows the shorthanded team to try and clear the puck. If not, you'd almost never see the puck out of the offensive zone in the PP. And the more icing that would be called, the more stoppages and less flow to the game you'd have. Not to mention the rules for icing being that the team who iced can't make a change so guys could conceivably be out there for the whole PK. The attacking team already has the man advantage, this would tilt the scales even more in their favor.

Rumor and Innuendo has it that next year's Winter Classic will be held in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, twitter.com/RealNick98/status/1079904354281377794They may as well call the 2020 Winter Classic "The NHL Cotton Bowl Extravaganza" complete with the playing of "God Bless America" during the pregame ceremonies and a Glen Goza musical tribute before the 3rd period featuring "Heaven Needed a Champion" and "RASSLIN"
