Gideon, Hux, Thrawn, Pellaeon, Sloane. The New Republic never stood a chance. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I do like the wrinkle that Gideon looks to have been going rogue. We assumed that the cloning project was directly leading towards Snoke and Palpatine, but he's basically trying to set himself up as the new Emperor with a clone army of Force-sensitive Mandalorians.
I'm guessing we're getting the Mandalorians, Ahsoka, the Rebels crew, Boba Fett's syndicate, the New Republic, and maybe Luke vs. Gideon's Imperial remnant vs. Thrawn's proto-First Order in the Mandoverse movie. {Spoiler}We know for sure that Brendol Hux and Rae Sloane are part of early leadership of the First Order. No clue when Palps sent Snoke to take over or if he was always there. I'm guessing Thrawn gets killed during the "Mandoverse" movie if they're following a similar storyline course to Zahn's original trilogy. But I wonder what happens to Pellaeon. Like in the Legends EU, Pellaeon, while a steadfast loyal Imperial officer, was also pragmatic and reform-minded. His Imperial Remnant eventually made peace with the New Republic, became a constitutional oligarchy (with democratic reforms even), and became outright allies with them and the successor government (Galactic Alliance) in some major conflicts afterwards. Does canon Pellaeon pursue peace with the Republic, join Sloane and Hux in the First Order, or is he killed before any of that happens?

I'm very interested in where all of this going as it seems to be heading right into what the Aftermath trilogy of books covered. I know that books are only canon until live-action contradicts them but the Aftermath trilogy is Disney canon.
I wonder if we'll get the Battle of Jakku and the Imperial remnants heading off into the Unknown Regions to become the First Order, whether they'll change that story or just do something else, somewhere else in the galaxy. I don't recall any Mandalorians involved at Jakku.

Jack Black and Christopher Lloyd are at the point they can do whatever they want.
People are only complaining because Lizzo is there too.
Let’s not get all up in arms about putting known celebrities into Star Wars, this is the same franchise where Bea Arthur is a singing bartender. It’s always been like this.

In keeping with his Legends portrayal, I see him recognising that the First Order as being far more fanatical than the Empire ever was, especially without Thrawn to hold them in check.

In the planning scene were the mandalorians eating the baby bird monster from a few episodes ago?

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}This feels like the beginning of fleshing out the clumsiness of the sequel trilogy as best they can. All things considered, Clone Wars and all the related series did a strikingly good job of rehabilitating the prequels, so I'm fairly confident they'll be able to clear things up in time, but man, I don't envy that sort of writing-with-the-end-in-mind.
Also unrelated, but man, I'd love to see another rogue Remnant villain that's just a slightly tongue-in-cheek composite of the worst superweapon excess of the old EU... which honestly could fit how things are headed anyway, considering how we still improbably ended up with Starkiller Base and the Exogol fleet. But hell, I'd be cool with just a throwaway schematic of a Sun Crusher or Galaxy Gun somewhere.

Hell, you can easily work in the Galaxy Gun as a sort of prototype to Starkiller Base. They're very similar to one another in that they both fire planet-destroying salvos that can travel at hyperspace speeds, meaning any star system could be a viable target no matter where the actual weapon was. The Starkiller just operates on a far grander scale.

We don't even need to go that far back, the literal first episode of this show starred Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte, Taika Waititi and Werner freaking Herzog. And that's before you go into future guest stars like Timothy Olyphant, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Ayoade, Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, I can go on.

One difference is the latter group consists of regular/recurring characters. At this point, Black, Lizzo and Lloyd may seem like stunt casting for a cheap pop. Perception may change if any of those three return.

Where is this show in the canon timeline in terms of its closeness to the Battle of Jakku? If it hasn’t happened yet, then it’s weird we didn’t see either Rae Sloane and Gallius Rax on the Shadow Council.

I’m also very weirded out by Gideon’s helmet looking like the ones the Mauldalorians wore during the Clone Wars when Maul himself was in charge.
Same as the Armorer’s, for that matter. Coincidence? I think…..probably.

The episode was called "The Spies", but we only saw one that we know about. Could all be misdirection and coincidence. Could not be. I suppose we'll find out next week.

If it hasn’t happened yet, then it’s weird we didn’t see either Rae Sloane and Gallius Rax on the Shadow Council. The Battle of Jakku takes place five years after A New Hope. The Mandalorian's first season takes place nine years after A New Hope. The current season is apparently two years after that.
