It’s relative. I live in Bloomington, so my hometown list would be all IU players. I live near Indianapolis, but since they lack a lot of sports teams (and the longest time only had the Pacers) the list would be Peyton Manning (Colts), Reggie Miller and Mel Daniels (Pacers) and either Dwight Freeney (Colts), Oscar Robinson (went to high school in Indy), or the Indianapolis Speedway itself. My uncle went to the Indiana State Basketball Championship every year for almost 40 years; he said Oscar was the best player he's ever seen.

Stan Musial and Brett Hull are two definites. The rest is a toss-up, one could push for maybe a Marshall Faulk, or a variety of Cardinal players. St. Louis you can do it just for Baseball alone. 1. Stan Musial 2. Brett Hull 3. Kurt Warner 4. Ozzie Smith My reason for Ozzie and Kurt. Ozzie one of the best as we know but off the field to this day he continues to do so much St. Louis, prime example a MAJOR reason why St. Louis got the 100th PGA championship. Those things added to his baseball career just makes him more deserving. As much as I loved Faulk, Warner was again off brought a lot off field and I think about the present and Faulk has a cloud over his head these days. Warner just generally a stand up great guy that as one of the greatest football stories of all time. Plus he was the head of that pack of greatest show on turf.

Currently: Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, Mark Messier (sadly) and Patrick Ewing. Historically, it would be Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Joe Namath and Lawrence Taylor I'm sure Martin Brodeur would fit in there somewhere, but I'm not giving the Devils credit for anything. Joe Namath being on there really bothers me. He's really wasn't more than above average. He kinda doesn't with his stats, but he was the face of the first team to bring a Super Bowl to NY, and he guaranteed it on top of that.

I'm only a fan of one Chicago team, but they are the closest major city. Michael Jordan Walter Payton Frank Thomas Ernie Banks Stan Mikita (if you want to include soccer, Karl-Heinz Granitza) Although, realistically, all of them would be Bears. (Edit: I missed there could only be 4. Stan would have a tough time cracking that lineup.) I was more of an Arno Steffenhagen fan

The fans loved him, and he was the face of the team forever. We can all picture him doing those flips right now., it's seared in our memories. But Kurt I have a hard time with. He was amazing, don't get me wrong. But after that amazing 99 season where he broke onto the scene and won the SB, Warner was here for only 4 more seasons starting only 34 more regular season games (7 total the last 2 seaons here.) 50 regular season starts, that's all he was here for. He started more games as a Cardinal sadly. Bruce was here from 1995 until 07 (179 starts), so over half the time the team was in St. Louis, likely the most synonymous player with the franchise in St. Louis. Warner was here like 3 full seasons and petered out. And Bruce was a steady performer. It would kinda be like putting Matt Holliday over Ozzie. Yeah, the numbers at his peak were better, but not Rushmore-worthy.

Greene, Clemente, Lemieux, Roethlisberger*. * - A lot of yinzers might put somebody else in that spot. Clemente and Lemieux definitely. I was thinking Lambert or even Rooney for the other two. Maybe Stargell. Crosby later on.

So Stan, Hull, Bruce, and Smith would be a good one.

Yeah, but as far as what they mean to a city and team. Jerry Jones in Dallas, Lombardi in Green Bay, etc. An owner or coach could be considered.

I grew up in Maryland so for Baltimore it would be Johnny Unitas, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken, and Wes Unseld. I did think about Ray Lewis, Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver, and Art Donovan but thought the four I chose was better.
I live in Colorado now and I can tell you there would be no Mount Rushmore there would only be a Mount Elway. John Elway is considered by far the greatest athlete that played here and no one else comes close.

What about Alex English? 8 Time NBA All-Star, scored more points than anyone in the 1980s, led the Nuggets to the West Finals once, a scoring title and 2 Division Titles.

Alex English was a great player and would be on the Mount Rushmore of Denver sports. My point is John Elway is viewed by the people of Colorado as the greatest athlete in the Denver area and no one even comes close.

Jim Brown, Jim Thome, Lebron James, Otto Graham (Arguments could be made for Omar Vizquel, Manny Ramirez, Paul Brown) That is a stellar lineup without Bob Feller.

For the purposes of this exercise, I’m using my NFL team (the Bills) as a local team and I’m only going to list players who I personally saw play:
- Mats Sundin - Roy Halladay - DeMar DeRozan - Bruce Smith
