So when it comes to putting over young talent, Triple H isn’t exactly a name synonymous with such an activity. However, I’d imagine he’d be all for getting one of his NXT talents to the next level. I’m picturing a Takeover main event between Triple H and Ciampa. Maybe once Ciampa loses the title he starts playing the blame game. He goes over Regal’s head and starts claiming H wasn’t making sure the champ was properly taken care of. Ciampa gets out of hand to the point where H feels he’s the only one that can get him in line. This is just something that crossed my mind. Opinions? Ideas for other things he could do onscreen?

The whole roster squashes him. Have him be NXT GM. Commentator. Something that takes him off the main roster forever.

Nah, Hunter's been good at keeping the authority figures for the show at a minimum for the most part, and continuing to ride the hell of the McMahon/Austin storyline popularity will only continue to stunt the potential growth they have. NXT still continues to be the strongest product the WWE has right now, and Hunter would rather mold a new up-and-comer to give the faces a run for their money to make TWO stars out of it rather than relying on old hands to bolster the developmental. If they want to learn from the veterans, they can watch the main roster product or attend a workshop at the PC.

I don't think there's much to pay off there; Triple H has been much better in recent years about putting people over, in particular his signings. I'd like to see him continue that pattern of putting over "his guys", but I think there's a case to be made for like one or two matches a year, but not so much in having him work an NXT show, which just isn't going to exceed its ceiling no matter what they do. It's not the NXT fans who could use the sight of someone going over Triple H.

Ronda Rousey would vigorously disagree. She's one of the few exceptions. He put Seth over big the year before, and while it wasn't a well executed story and didn't do much in the long run for him, he pretty decisively put Roman over the year before that. Keep him away from guys of his generation, and suddenly we see the man who wants the tentpole guys of his vision of WWE to be well off and credible. Even the memetastic selfie stuff is something I see as Triple H believing he's trying to put people over and lend credibility to them, on top of the obvious PR stuff. Dude's been pretty well-meaning in the past few years about this stuff. |

He put Seth over big the year before, and while it wasn't a well executed story and didn't do much in the long run for him, he pretty decisively put Roman over the year before that. Keep him away from guys of his generation, and suddenly we see the man who wants the tentpole guys of his vision of WWE to be well off and credible. The Roman match was pretty awful I thought, with Trips wrestling his biggest badass evurr-ah! style and chewing up Roman. If the match was a brutal, no holds barred slugfest, that would have suited the story a lot more than the match we got and helped Roman a lot more than the usual slow paced HHH match. |

Oh no it wasn't a good match or a good story by any means. But the root of it was very much trying to build Triple H up as this insurmountable corporate heel for Roman to conquer. That whole series from Survivor Series through to Mania was an attempt to try and recreate the Daniel Bryan magic without the weird skips and missed beats, but it failed for pretty obvious reasons. Triple H was built up as the big badass old school heel because that's sort of Triple H's speed, but that's a complaint you can give most of Roman's matches because we're talking pure Roman big match formula there. I'm just saying the intention was there, even if the booking undermined it all and Roman is fundamentally miscast in everything he does. |

Doesn't change the fact he is OK with it in small doses at certain times. Hell, he bumped for the Bellas in Steph's match at SummerSlam and it didn't benefit anyone. |

It's kinda funny that the same thing happened at a WrestleMania in Texas 7 years prior, with Triple H apparently not learning from history and instead burying it 6 feet deep with an iron shovel. |

Seth, Roman, Batista, Orton, Sheamus, Benoit, Cena, etc Yeah Triple H never puts anybody over. Cena - That match at WM22 should have went to Edge, who was getting huge reactions and pulling the biggest ratings in years. Instead, Trips gets the match because he thought he could do a better job of getting booed against Cena than Kurt could. He was wrong.
Roman - Chews him up in the WM32 main event.
Orton - Orton was pulling huge numbers in the early months of 2009, Trips beats him in the WM main event in a wet fart of a match that was ruined by the stip, and Orton loses a large chunk of his drawing power and heat.
Sheamus - Trips beats him at Mania.
Benoit - Sure, Trips taps at Mania, but Chris soon takes a backseat to Michaels vs HHH.
Batista was great sure, but more often than not, Trips doesn't do a good job of putting someone over. Never said he doesn't put people over - I said he's not very good at it.

HHH NXT Run, as booked by HHH:
-Shows up as an authority figure to upbraid Regal for his handling of the Black investigation. Takes it over, which largely means he intimidates all the heels, especially Undisputed Era
-Butts heads with Ciampa and says he'll "do what Regal couldn't do" and get Ciampa in line, with the plan being that maybe he puts him over and Gargano returns to help HHH afterwards
-Decides "you know what, we kinda lost our way with that last Gargano/Ciampa match, maybe I could put Gargano over right"
-Changes plans so he beats Ciampa and wins the NXT title
-Beats Adam Cole in a title defense to solidify himself as a face champ
-Turns heel to set up the Gargano program by revealing that it was somehow actually HHH himself who attacked Black in the first place, leading Undisputed Era and Ciampa to admit their respect for his plan and start running interference for him
-Beats Black to solidify himself as heel champ to set up a program with Gargano
-NXT signs Omega right before Takeover and HHH decides that actually, he needs to stay strong to really put over Omega on his way in
-Beats Gargano to stay strong to really put over Omega, and Gargano shakes hands with him afterwards for some reason
-Books his first match with Omega to be a plodding, one hour draw
