I'll check it out. Yet I stand by my opinion that Aladdin is one of the more unnecessary putting it into live action format.

Will Smith kinda makes the film feel dated. Maybe it’s the fact he was fresh princing when the original Aladdin came out. Maybe outside of Suicide squad he’s been in a many of bombs lately. Maybe that’s what they’re going for the 90s are in right now. I was watching the honest trailer for the cartoon, and one of the ideas they had was Hugh Jackman. If there’s anybody that could do the Geanie justice while making it their own. It’s Jackman.

Dave Chappelle should have been the Genie. Dave from the Chappelle Show days, absolutely. That'd have been fire. Current day Dave.....hrm. Hollywood broke him and he got out as much as possible. It changed him. He can still channel his younger enthusiasm well but there's a grimness to his persona now that.....might not work. Or hell, it might; I think it'd be a damn different genie so.....maybe? I've no real problem with Will Smith. Him appearing as a normal guy in this movie is odd, but then some of those CGI shots don't work so hot so it might be for the best. And I enjoy it when actors appear to legit be having fun in a role, especially ones who either never do (Charlize Theron in A Million Ways to Die in the West was a friggin delight) or haven't for a long time (Will Smith, who took on maybe a few too many serious roles in recent years) - this return to the Will Smith of old is welcome.

There's a Will Smith Genie toy out there already, and includes a clip of Will singing 'Friend Like Me.'
.....it's like he knows he shouldn't put his own mark on the song, for fear of people who instinctively hear Robin Williams singing it freaking out, so he puts a Will Smith-lite mark on the song and it's somehow even more terrifying. I actually joked this weekend about wanting a full-out DJ Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince version of 'Prince Ali,' and when I heard this clip I was mortified by my thoughts and by the clip.
.......yet I'm still kinda intrigued to hear the song in full. A clip is just a clip...

What takes me out of it the most is Aladdin wearing a friggin hoodie.

Disney has posted much of Prince Ali on social media. My opinion of the singing has not changed, but is only cemented more. Just watch the animated movie, kids. We didn't need a live action version this badly. Why didn't they cast Ben Kingsley as Jafar I will never know The changing times. They're lucky there was no crippling flak for Prince of Persia 10 years ago (there was flak, maybe that the lesson taught).

well... yikes.
also not mentioned in those reactions...
Aladdin looks completely awkward here... like Genie is forcing him to do this... as opposed to the original where Aladdin was loving being the center of attention and soaking it up...
Also Will Smith calls Ostriches Mammals... THAT HAPPENS

I've been giving this movie the benefit of the doubt because it has the potential to be visually spectacular.
But THAT was dogshit. Like Will Smith doing bad karaoke over the actual track from the movie. Totally jarring.

Can we just stop with all these remakes? They're mostly a waste.
I mean, the theme parks are already overrun with classic attractions developed explicitly for theme parks getting gutted in order to promote whatever the new hot property is Disney is pushing, and it's only getting worse. One current rumor is that they're going to close Reflections of China at EPCOT and replace it with a CircleVision Mulan movie based on the live-action Mulan, which hasn't even released principle photography yet!

So it isn't a terrible stretch to cast him as Jafar. Especially since Jasmine is British Indian.

He played f***ing Ghandi. The only problem is that he is 75, so he obviously doesn't remotely fit what they were going for here.

Well Kingsley is half Indian his birth name is Krishna Bhanji. That's a fact I keep forgetting for some dumb reason, dang it. A couple years ago I recall his name being mentioned in some of those now-impossible-to-ignore arguments about "accurate" casting regarding Gandhi and other films. Hell, I think (before we knew the true details of the character) there was flak for him being cast as the Mandarin because of the ethnicity. So even though he legit has the background, I fear people on any side of the argument will probably still assume he's British first. He would've been a great Jafar, totally. But instead Disney want a young stupid sexy Jafar - and, no offense Sir Ben, the millennials wouldn't be swooning quite the same for you.

To be fair, they're certainly not killing it on each one, like with Dumbo recently. But it floors me how hyped people are for each one of these after most of them have been pretty poor-to-mediocre thus far.
