Also ... it might just be this scene... but looking at it... the city looks... small.
Like an obvious set rather than a living city.

Honestly is there a generally widely beloved for decades actor with a worse track record than Will Smith? Guy's been in about what, like four good movies? Ever?

Besides Fresh Prince, which I think still holds up as a good family sitcom, I’ve enjoyed a bunch of his movies. Some more than others of course, but still a pretty good resume: Bad Boys Independence Day Men in Black Men in Black II Bad Boys II I, Robot The Pursuit of Happyness I Am Legend Seven Pounds Men in Black 3 Suicide Squad

What I find most baffling about this movie is the choice of director. Nothing about his filmography suggests he's the right guy to adapt a beloved children's musical.

I forgot that Guy Ritchie was directing this. It definitely is a headscratcher. He hasn't even been a big run commercially after Man from UNCLE and his Arthur movie both flopped. Of course he had the Sherlock Holmes movies before that and I think those made bank.

The fact we never got a sequel is one of the greatest recent injustices in film.

It deserved to find an audience.

Looking at the clip of the song number, it does seem to be the direction which is an issue as opposed to any of the performances. It's very downplayed and lacking in energy compared to the original. And, as shown earlier, even increasing the tempo helps improve it.

Is there any particular reason they changed "Sunday salaam" to "Friday salaam".

Aaand once again, Will Smith just plays Will Smith. Like, he's technically a good actor, but he can't play a character other than the same one he's been playing since the Fresh Prince days. I'm not really bothered by that. I mean, in the original movie all Robin Williams did was play Robin Williams. Yeah, but Robin had the energy of a cartoon character.

Go for some camera movement, some quick edits, some interesting angles... not | Genie | for the majority of what we see.

Imagine if Kazaam sang Prince Ali: Shan showed a lot more personality in that movie than I'm seeing out of Will in the Aladdin clips so far.
