Where else can he work now? TNA, WWE and ROH won't want him. ROH forgave Adam Pearce and his heat with them was worse than Aries. Aries has already made appearances with RoH this year, and was even a part of Kenny King's recent heel turn. That, and he's still probably got like 13 belts left to drop, so there's still demand for his services even if this wasn't a work.

I can't believe he went mental over a short joke. He's got a short temper. So he's basically a Kwyjibo?

So he's basically a Kwyjibo? When Aries was flipping Callis off Callis should’ve said “Uh-oh Kwyjibo on the loose”

Aries will be back, probably before the end of the year. At one point both Impact and Aries could do better but their prime years have passed and now they need each other. Callis and Aries will quietly bury the hatchet, leading to a shock return and a shootesque promo and things will carry on as before.

I still lean on the it was a shoot side of things.
1. It's Aries. 2. Moose and Kross looking confused 3. Aries' promo before the match seemed pretty legit that he was pissed ("shitty B-movies") 4. They weren't just hitting each other, Aries was slapping/chopping the shit out of Johnny, even before the end came I asked, "shit, do they really hate each other" b/c Aries was wrestling like he was facing a nemesis of his. Those were some of the loudest and most brutal chops I've heard in a long time. 5. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I went back and watched the match and during the whole thing AA has this aire about him, beyond his usual "I'm a smug SOB" thing, it feels like something was definitely up.
They should never have taken the belt off of Pentagon Jr.

What tips the scale is obviously if there is that much heat no way Taya takes that dive spot from Aries
Everything was a "work" we assume until the end where Aries got up after the finish. I think that's half work half shoot in that regard but either way as stated before it's a lose lose situation. Either Aries did some stupid shit at the end which make him a clown or after the match it was a work and benefits no one

I agree with aries on the hypocrisy about us living in an age where a lot of people seem to be against body shaming but still make fun of short guys. But not him walking out like that and tainting a show that had him as there figure head for a long while

I hope Aries starts his own promotion, makes himself the champion, then books himself to drop the belt, and burns his own bridge on his way out, telling himself to go f*** himself. Like, I may invest hard-earned money in it to see it happen. Pull a Jeff Jarrett?

Thing is, in the Pillman era where the internet was very new, it was easier to wonder if his Loose Cannon stuff was real. Now in an era where you can get news at the touch of a screen, no one is gonna believe Aries is a legit nutcase.
Especially now it’s leaked that’s the angle he wants to do. If they wanted to make it effective, make people really wonder, they’d have asked people to shut up about it. Even sign NDA’s that they won’t leak it to the sheets if the angle is that important.

Honestly I'm cool with Austin playing the wild card but I wish there was a better way to do it than to break kayfabe like that. It was obviously effective in that it got people talking but it's hard to buy future business between Impact Wrestling and Aries because we've now established that wrestling is a work in their fictional universe. I'd have had him cut a work/shooty promo after the match and spoil Impact's moment or something.

Guys who hate each other that much legit and don't trust each other don't turn in performances like that. If guys in a wrestling ring are going at it "for real" it looks more like Earthquake vs. Kitao--a few suddenly stiff shots and then it's nothing but two guys staring at each other waiting for the other to make the first move. Either Aries and Johnny are acting like petulant children or Impact is shoot-work booking these guys to come off as petulant children. Either way, something is mighty messed up here.

Leave it to TNA to after a well-received show completely kill any positivity that could come from it with a stupid worked shoot and ripping off a WCW angle.

I find it curious that Aries would leave, especially considering that he can return at their next big PPV, Homecoming.

Why do wrestling promoters keep doing the same thing that didn't work the first time?

Ok, here's the problem with this "loose cannon" thing.
When your loose cannon gets up right after a finisher and walks out, it makes your product look bad. A loose cannon should be unpredictable and unmanageable strictly in kayfabe without affecting the match itself. If he is actively no-selling a title loss, that just makes you look stupid, because fans dont tune in to say "what happens next?" when a guy actively pulls back the curtain at the end of a match.
If you want to do worked shoots etc thats fine, but DON'T DO IT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE IN RING PRODUCT. Do not acknowledge that its all scripted.
Take prime Stone Cold, he showed up with zambonis, trucks and whatever the hell else he was inexplicably qualified to drive, but he never no sold losing a match. He never took a pin and then just got up. He made it feel like anything could happen and he was legitimately unpredictable because of it. But it all benefited the story.
Aries has basically seen a way to get HIMSELF over at the expense of the show he is on, hence why this won't do anything of any note. Protecting your character only works if it enhances the quality of the show.
Say what you will about Sami Callihan, and Im not a fan, but he turned botching a bat to Eddie Edwards face into a great shift for his character that pushed him up the ranks with Impact. He played the whole thing as if it was storyline that he could actually do something like that to another person.
Wrestling in it's entirety is a worked shoot, you're supposed to suspend disbelief. When someone makes "this isn't actually part of the show" part of their image, everything suffers.
A good example of doing this without pulling the curtain back is Joey Styles in 2006 dropping his Raw announcer position. He never once hurt the credibility of any wrestler, he even pretty much said "this is not sports entertainment, these are real athletes".
A bad example of this is the famous "Goldberg isnt following the script" bit from WCW. DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A SCRIPT.

The problem with this as a work-- besides the obvious fact that you really can't pull of segments of brainwashing zombie ghost ladies and their alternate dimension on the same show you're doing "He's not following the script! It's a shoot, brother!" stuff without completely undermining your own product-- is that Aries going all "HOW COME I CAN'T USE RACIAL SLURS BUT YOU CAN CALL ME SHORT US SHORT PEOPLE ARE THE REAL PERSECUTED MINORITY IN AMERICA" doesn't make him look like a dangerous, unhinged badass, it makes him look like a hilariously thin-skinned primadonna.
If/when he reappears, I'm not gonna be thinking "Whoa, who's Austin Aries gonna f*** up?", Imma be cracking jokes about how Hornswoggle forgot his leprechaun suit.
