I’ve never played a game in the Fallout series before. I was going to preorder this one mainly due to where it takes place, it really drew me in. Then I realized that it is online only. I don’t play online at all, never have. What’s everyone else’s feelings on this being online only? Should I give it a shot before I just write it off?

I’m disappointed that there’s no human NPCs. But other than that I’m pretty excited. I’ve always thought wandering the wasteland with a buddy would be an awesome experience.

It should be a regular game with option of co-op or limited number of NPCs.
A full MMO just isn't interesting. The fun of Fallout is the world and the crazy, weird gangs and wastelanders you encounter.
The world's still there. But it's not gonna feel the same without the characters populating it

I've put well over 150 hours into each mainline Elder Scrolls and Fallout game since Morrowind came out.
I doubt I'll even bother with this. Just like I didn't bother with the Elder Scrolls MMO.

What happened to the other 72 Fallout games?

Its an ambitious move on their part, and thankfully for them, they didn't release it around the time of Red Dead 2. Still, not my interest.

Yeah... the Elder Scrolls MMO was a bust to me. Felt like a shell of itself gameplay wise and even graphically with still animations. This one seems to be built totally in the Fallout4 engine so the ugly stiffness won’t be there at least.

To me it just feels like a massive misfire, but then I have absolutely no idea what the appeal of an MMO is to begin with if I'm being honest. Pretty much all the standard hallmarks of them are things I see as negatives.

The online multiplayer takes me out of it completely. Not my thing at all.

Sounds like I’m going to pass on it. Everyone pretty much confirmed how I felt about it.

As you're new to the series, I'd highly recommend Fallout 4 as a great starting point. You've got a fantastic World waiting to dig into there, complete with all the DLC. As it's been out a few years now I'd bet you can find a great deal on the whole thing too.
If you enjoy it, Fallout 76 will still be there, but you may bypass the inevitable teething problems it'll have on launch. I'm a big Fallout fan, but the hype for Fallout 76 isn't doing it for me right now. I'm going to wait it out and see what people are making of the game a few months from now.

A lot of the fun I get from Fallout is from talking to characters and going on moral questioning stories and quests. Take all that away and I have no interest in the game. I thought Fallout 4 had way too much emphasis on base building as it was.

I have basically zero interest in a Fallout game that isn't a solo adventure. Not a fan of MMOs to begin with so this one gets a hard pass.

If it played more like Monster Hunter World (can go solo, co-operative Multiplayer only, no PvP), I think more people would be on board.
The whole thing with active Nuclear weapons available for player use, and the griefing that's sure to ensue...raises a fair number of concerns.

The beauty of the Fallout games, to me at least, is having an entire world to yourself. You create your own environments the world adapts to you the same way you adapt to the world. The whole basis of the game is being an individual so I don’t understand the MMO aspect where you take away what really made the franchise

I have interest but will wait for the beta as I have my doubts.
I actually wanted a game with more focus on base building,co-op. And less of a quasi-mmo.

Well, maybe it will help with the Bethesda problem of no one on the planet but you can get anything done.

Well, maybe it will help with the Bethesda problem of no one on the planet but you can get anything done. I know NV is already universially praised. But that is one thing Obsidean did great. All factions seemes competent, you were just the one key piece that could swing the war at anyone's favor In Fallout 3 and 4 without the Main Character it would just be a one sided swoop by the bad faction
