Giant Bomb also gave it a "Do not buy this game" out of 10.
I'm surprised that IGN's score ended up so low because they seemed positive about it while playing it.

Truly a sign of just how poorly-received the game is, when checking the trade-in value the two biggest games retailers in the U.K. are offering just £14 and £20 for it.

heard they had to put out a 49 gb patch Yes. Like day 2. The game is.... simply okay. The gameplay and graphics are Fallout4, so that’s fine. The setting seems pretty cool. It’s just boring though. I’m already tired of holotapes, and I’m only a few hours in. I’m sure pushing forward with a Buddy will make it tolerable, but only that.... There’s NPC’s all over the place in ESO, so it’s not like they couldn’t incorporate them into an online only game. There had to at least be a happy medium between the fun encounters of a regular Fallout game and NOTHING. BUT. HOLOTAPES.

CeX are offering £24 cash, £29 trade at the moment.

Seems like something that would have probably been better off as additional content for Fallout 4.
At least you'd imagine it would give them a chance to work out the kinks without having to deal with as much backlash and disappointment from marketing it as a new title.

I'd say it's tanked here, too, as it's currently $40, but that's probably Black Friday sale prices.

Gamestop's Trade Values section offers $22 for it, compared to $28.16 for RDR 2 or $30.80 for Let's Go.

I feel bad for people that this is their first Fallout game/Fallout experience.
I played it for a few days, and just can't do it anymore. It's boring. It's uninspired. It's BUGGY AS f***. Which is a given with Bethesda, but good lord this is a whole new level. It feels like an incomplete game. And frankly it's insulting that Bethesda just thought everyone would roll over and accept it.

there's been a constant drip feed of bad reviews, keeping how bad it is in the public eye

I think some people definitely overreact. but the game for me is not bad. worse, it's boring.
there is a base there but not much to do. everything feels incomplete. the building system is not big enough, the gunplay is just okay, the world is big beautiful but lacking some meat.
the game design has no focus too. no target audience.
personally I would have focused more on building and making cities.

I got the game as a birthday gift, so I just fired it up to check it out.
I look forward to paying it in TEN HOURS when the updates are finished downloading!

Really more than anything this game just feels like hubris. It feels like they felt like they could throw together any half-assed little thing and people would eat it up because it's them, with the end result being a big financial disappointment, horrible reviews, and a ton of bad PR.

Fallout 76 is all the bad things about Bethesda games without any of the things that help cover up the bugs and outdated game design.
