I'm currently listening my way in order, so I'm back in their Wrestlemania Recap days(specifically about to start Wrestlemania 23, and yeah, if you haven't listened that far back...do yourself a favor and do so. "Vince" pitching Linda on the catatonia storyline is deep fried gold. I have listened for years and heard every episode, when they are into the subject, it is some of the best entertainment out there, no matter the medium.

Surprise surprise, Fritz worked the religion gimmick, he worshipped the altar of the almighty dollar. He used the chaplain because the station would pay him thousands of dollars.
Bill Mercer had to stop Fritz from going all zealot on the tv show.

I’ve been watching a ton of wccw in association with this podcast and I’m shocked how hot the von Erich’s vs Freebirds feud was when the von erich beat them by pinfall on tv regularly including their 1st tv match a 6-man tag and then Kevin pins Gordy clean in a singles match.

This week isn’t as good as the others. There’s not that much Lapsed Fritz. It’s mostly shitting on Gary Hart.
Apparently the reason WCCW didn’t become more low brow on exploiting religion, was because a Bill Mercer was the producer.

Lapsed Verne Gagne makes a cameo around the two hours fifty nine minutes mark.

Who do y’all think is a bigger loser, Verne or Fritz? Verne saw great success as an amateur before seeing great success as a pro worker before seeing over two decades of great success as a promoter before a brief, turbulent change in the business landscape left him immediately obsolete. With the exception of one incident that can be fully blamed on the dementia that had set in, Verne lived the rest of his life after the business quietly and comfortably, with loving children who supported him through and through. Fritz was a sociopath whose determination to succeed through his boys and keep his spotlight shining led to abuse, drug addictions and enablings, horrific accidents and finally ended with him burying almost his entire family and watching the entire myth built around the family crumble when presented with reality. Who was the bigger loser? You tell me.

The more I hear about Fritz and the way he used his kids, even those that didn't want to even be in the business to begin with, the more I hate Fritz and am glad Karma bit him in the ass. He drove almost all of his kids to the grave because of his crap.

Who was the bigger loser? You tell me. Verne didn’t live a quiet and comfortable life with his loving kids. Verne and Greg ended up declaring bankruptcy and later were caught trying to hid assets so they could rip off their debt collectors. Verne also apparently pressured her daughter to date and marry a wrestler. He wanted Hogan to marry her and since Hogan passed, she later married Larry Zbyszko. There were other accounts explored on the podcast about Verne treating Greg like shit. Greg himself said that Verne only gave him three compliments in his life. Verne also allegedly bullied Greg into staying with the company. There was also the enabling of letting Buck Zumhofe work for him despite knowing of Zumhofe’s prior convictions for abusing children. Despite portraying himself as a family man and pillar of the community, Verne was sleeping with Eddie Sharkey’s wife. Verne is not this grandfatherly figure, while Fritz was a bigger monster, Verne was also a piece of shit. Like the Von Erichs, the Gagne family has also gone through public humiliation for breaking the law, it’s not a wholesome family by any means, just that they’re less of a train wreck than the Von Erich family.

He drove almost all of his kids to the grave because of his crap. They explain some of Fritz’s mentality during the finals minutes of this week’s episode. Fritz was born in extreme poverty and wanted to make every dollar possible, it didn’t matter if he exploited his kids or religion. He convinced himself that he was doing the right thing and that it was what his kids wanted. Also meeting Pat Robertson gave him a delusion complex about being a role model.

Anybody else cringed at Bill Watts claiming that he didn’t want to exploit race?
Also Jack and JP confirmed that Vince had to sue Louisiana because they only gave Watts a wrestling promoter license.

I’m watching a ton of WCCW and I’m watching Parade of Champions 85 it starts with a 15 minute concert with ring announcer Ralph Pulley singing “STAND UP your an american!” and I wanted him to sit down then the official chaplain of World Class singing “Heaven needed a champion” and Marc Lowrance one word response was “beautiful” but Marc soon refers to the lady that handles the WCCW tapes as Beautiful 4 times so the chaplain should have tried harder with his performance.

I need to see that chaplain, lol sound like the carniest thing ever for this two faced company.

JP is right, it’s depressing that WCCW will only be remembered for the tragedies when they innovated so much the way wrestling was presented.

JP is right, it’s depressing that WCCW will only be remembered for the tragedies when they innovated so much the way wrestling was presented. They were way ahead of their time in some production aspects aswell as having a weekly show that had main event matches weekly a lot of people claim Nitro was the 1st to do that but WCCW was doing that a decade plus before them.
