After watching this video, I really want to watch this show again. I haven't watched it since Teennick (When it was The N) had it as part of their 90s block, but even then it was shown sporadically. I remember watching this a lot as a kid. I am sure that I wasn't the only boy who had a crush on Dina, though I also had a bit of a crush on ZZ. Telly wasn't bad, but something about tomboys didn't do it for me as a child (Though I thought she looked great in that ball nightmare in the Zeke the Plumber episode). Also, my favorite episode was the Dina/Budnick two-parter, though there were a lot of good ones, like the one when Budnick and Donkeylips tried to look for treasure.

Great review, I've always been a big fan of Roses videos. Between this and the Poparena Nick Knacks series it's good to see classic Nick get some much needed love.

Hopefully she'll cover The Adventures of Pete & Pete next.

I loved this show, and when I got older I appreciated the jokes that flew right over my head as a kid. Remember when the gang goes to the beach, and Donkey Lips gets locked in a rest-stop bathroom? He tells Sponge that “there’s a machine in here that sells balloons.” Yeeeah, I didn’t realize what he meant until much later! I assumed he was talking about balloons you would see at a party.

And of course, anytime the show mentioned wrestling was great. Like when Budnick talks about Sergeant Slaughter body slamming The Atomic Werewolf, or Giant Jim Ginsburg taunts Sponge by saying that he might ask how many hairs there are on Hulk Hogan’s head. (You could probably answer that question pretty easily today, lol.)

SYS is my fave live action Nick show. And love how for years the actor that played Donkeylips kept bootleg DVDs of the show in his car. And would sell them to fans.

Years ago saw a current pic of Sponge and he got buff.

In 2004 or so an old Army buddy ran into Donkeylips at a bowling alley. Got a pic with DL. Then asked DL if he knew when SYS might hit DVD. DL ran out to his car and came back in with a box full of DVD-R sets of both seasons. IIRC DL was asking 20 bucks for the 4 discs that made up both seasons.

Not long after I got my first DVD burner I tracked down every episode of SYS,most of them were from Nick GAS airings, and made my own set.

It is odd that SYS hasn't gotten a DVD release. Pretty much every major live action Nick show from that era has gotten a DVD release. And unlike say Roundhouse or Weinerville I doubt it is rights issues preventing a home video release.

Part of me is tempted to buy the unofficial DVDs that Michael Bower is selling on eBay. I have been waiting for an official release for years now. It's weird how iTunes has it for sale, but no actually physical copies have been made.
