Do "The Real Ghostbusters" movie. Recast the original Ghostbusters with actors who look more like their animated selves. No origin story! Just have it be a loose sequel to the original(s) set in late 80s/early 90s. Have them fight Samhain. Release it around Halloween.

I cant see anyone who could (or would want to) pull off Egon's animated look.

Kind of feel sorry for how Aykroyd has always wanted to do this movie and no one will let him. Dan Aykroyd is awesome.

Dan can be a little on the kooky side sometimes, but he's a good dude and a bonafide legend. Always enjoyed listening to his blues radio show, and was I sad when he moved on from it last year. All that said, Ghostbusters II was a huge drop off from the original, and nobody was interested in making it at any point. There's little that can convince me that an additional 25 years and all the physical changes for the worse that come with that passage of time would've made for a better movie, so best to let it go.

Alsi, Supposedly there was momentum on making Ghostbusters 3 before the movie was taken away from Reitman and given to Feig to reboot the series.

I really don't understand how this franchise keeps going. I don't even think the first one is very good.
I cannot imagine a universe where a third one this long after the second will be anywhere approaching as good as the first.
Without being stupid here, when was the last time Dan Ackroyd was in something good? And when was the last time he WROTE something good?

Movies are the American Dream encapsulated. If you don't agree with the appeal of Ghostbusters as a franchise, just name another movie franchise you do like (different opinions and all) and compare. The fans of Ghostbusters will always watch a new entry, and that's guaranteed money-- The Powers That Be at different studios fighting over the movie don't want to put out another dud like the latest Ghostbusters was so it's guaranteed money on a sequel yes-- but almost a deathknell for the franchise if they have another dud. It's tricky to take that financial leap without a legit script that can't fail.
Dan Aykroyd is the heir apparent to put a financier at ease for okaying the production of a Ghostbusters sequel, compare this franchise to Star Wars (Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher cameo'd to induct new Rebels, and Ford gets a newbie to play his character Han Solo in a spin-off movie based solely on Harrison Ford's iconic characterrrr--).
Compare Ghostbusters to Star Trek, and thus Aykroyd has a chance to reboot the series like they've done with Star Trek (the reboot with Leonard Nemoy's blessing/acting in the first film with a new generation of actors specifically New Spock) with a new cast of actors that can capture Aykroyd, Ramis, Murray and Hudson's mannerisms/character in a full-blown reboot (but with Aykroyd penning the dialogue so it remains true to O.G. ghosbustaz)
I don't have much interest in seeing the same actors reprise their roles aside from it helping the transition to younger recast actors.

If they are ever going to make another Ghostbusters movie, then they should hire Taika Waititi to write and direct.

Ghostbusters II happened because The Real Ghostbusters was a hit. GB II is basically The Real Ghostbusters: The Movie and if you take it for what it is, I still think it's pretty good.

With all the dancing around Bill Murray did, the passing of Harold Ramis, & the 2016 film's infamy, not sure the way this would go, though I won't fault Dan for wanting to keep his figurative baby going.

I’d be down for another with as much of the original cast as possible. It’ll likely never happen and I’m ok with that too.
