But when are we going to get an anime of The Shinji Ikari Detective Diaries? When are we gonna get an anime of Shinji Ikari Raising Project? Funny, usually when I see Evangelion and Madoka brought up together it's how Future Diary shamelessly rips off both of them. Full disclosure, the show is stupid as f*** but I like Future Diary more than I do Madoka. You watch Future Diary for crazy ass Yuno and that's what you will certainly get It's one of those turn your brain off shows and just enjoy all the crazy shit that happens and makes no sense why this idiot Amano would stay with her after she kidnaps him and does crazy shit every arc

Also fair warning for those who are interested but never watchedthe MC Shinji is a big ole bitch in the beginning so yeah be prepared for that And he never lives it down either. This is why there are so many fanfiction writers who try to make him much less miserable. And why if I ever get my Anime Gaming Wrestling Alliance fanfic off the ground, he's going to be one of my top guys.

The thing is at some points you want to feel sorry for him because his fathers an asshole and he’s using him but on the other side Shinji knew this and was looking for approval from his father. At some point you got to man up and take control

And for that matter there's how by the end of the show the most genuinely sympathetic character is the one who was introduced by bombing a school. No clue how they managed that but what happens when you're just stupid fun and nothing is really treated with much weight.

I mean, isn't that literally half the point of the franchise, deconstructing the teen-mech-pilot genre and saying 'ok, but what kind of mental issues would you end up with having to go through this kind of stress and horror at that age'?

Yeah, I've never understood complaints about Shinji. Yeah, he's whiny, cowardly, and indecisive. That's the whole point of his character, that he's had an awful life and what we're seeing of him now is where it's getting much worse even as some aspects look up.

Well they did try to humanize her a bit with the love romance subplot which helped but yeah as I said just turn your brain off and watch the craziness on screen. Once you do that and don't actually think about the plot, it's one of those stupid fun shows that you just happened to watch

"Big ole bitch" is just my own personal wording
He's no doubt traumatized. Everything he did was in hopes that his father would notice him. He the center of attention for a lot of people but not for his father which is what mattered most. He's indecisive and whiny which is the point of his character
My warning was for those people who have never watched it and hate the indecisive protagonist which has become a staple for MCs in some shows over time. Wasn't talking about the plot itself and how his character fits into it on top of the other pilots who have their own issues

I guess it's a bit too "on the nose" for some people. Then again, Amuro in Zeta Gundam. After experiencing the One Year War (he was 15-16 during it. In Zeta Gundam he's about 23), his father no longer being lucid, having the weight of the Earth Federation on his shoulders while piloting the Gundam, seeing friends and romantic interests die before his very eyes and facing a commited, driven and unshaken ace of the enemy in the form of the charismatic Char Aznable, goes into a big depression (coupled with the fact that the Feds have him on watch 24/7) and he only "man's up" when he gets a chance for a high thrilling escape and gets back into active duty with Karaba/AEUG. But he also brought Katz with him, so it can't be all wins.

Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul is another example. He starts out as weak and meager needing people to save him and then he just eventually snaps but in this instance he becomes the person saving and hurting people
You start to dive into his backstory with a abusive mother yet he held her in high esteem when she died and all the other shit like him developing a split personality

By the way that song in End of Evangelion:
Am I the only one that thinks it kinda sounds like this?

You know the anime Dual! Parallel Trouble pretty much satirized NGE at the end of the 90s featuring parodies of most of the central characters.
Someone on Twitter also pointed out how this is possibly going to cause an unhealthy mix between the Evangelion fanbase and the Voltron: Legendary Defender fanbase.

Actually I just took notice of that Yuki Yuna thing. I know nothing of this series besides the name so hearing it compared makes me kind of want to give it a look. Might do that later... if only because my current watching through of And Yet the Town Moves is going slow because it's hard to multitask with subs.

Same with Madoka I don't think I was ever really confused by Madoka at all. I did raise my eyebrow a bit at how it somehow ended up being darker than freaking Blassreiter (another show written by the same guy that did Madoka).

Gen Urobuchi has a reputation for lots and lots of character deaths (hence why they call him "The Urobutcher"), so I wasn't expecting anything happy.
