I shouldn’t be, but I’m kinda stoked for this. Genuine question: why? not even trying to be snarky just interested in hearing what makes you excited for what will be a vastly inferior product to the NFL and NCAA?

Scrumble instead of coin toss, non-field goal extra points. Seems to be enough mainstream TV coverage to fill the gap before baseball season starts.

Wait, so XFL games will be on Fox, ESPN, and ABC? That’s crazy. I know football is popular in the US but do the networks really believe people will watch inferior talent play football a week after the NFL season ended? yes

ABC only plays NBA games on Sunday iirc. So the main networks would only be playing college basketball or golf this time of year before Fox starts with the MLB again. It's not really that they buy into it doing good ratings, but most of their other options aren't going to either.

That's all true, but the XFL has a stench to it dating back to the original version (which flopped miserably), and I couldn't see any other wannabee football league get this type of exposure right out of the gate. Vince can sell water to a whale.

Vince can sell water to a whale. Well, like I said before, Vince is "selling" to Disney/ESPN and Fox who he has working relationships with already. It's kinda like Jeremy Jacobs being on the Board of Governors for hockey owners, but also the food vendor company that he owns enjoys being vendor for many NHL arenas. What an amazingly sweetheart deal that doesn't seem unfairly leveraged in any way.

Does the "X" in the acronym stand for anything this time?

Should be interesting to see how it pans out. Probably not much better than college ball, but tons of people live for college ball.

The original XFL had the Million Dollar Game as the Championship. I'm guessing the new one, based on the salary structure, might as well be the Hundred Thousand Dollar Game.

Since we're just under two hours away from the opening game. At least Tommy Maddox recovered from sweeping up toenails at a beauty parlor to get a Super Bowl ring 😛.

Well I’ll be interested. Someone I know started an xfl pool, winner takes all. I got DC, wish me luck. I’m not sure if we care about the games or we are a bunch of degenerate gamblers

Saw something funny on Twitter: The XFL has already done more revenue/ticket sales than the entire AAF season

since the XFL has TV deals that isn't too surprising, but I do find that very interesting

I guess I’ll watch today so I can say to someone else’s kids one day that I watched both debut games for the XFL 19 years apart. That 1st XFL game ever back in 2001 had a transformative effect on my life so hopefully this one will as well.

I don't even watch football. Tuning in cause I watched a few of the first iteration and part of me hopes it has some stability so that the players who where stepping stones for NFL players have a chance at making some coin, even if it pales in comparison, after they probably sacrificed so much bodily and what not.
That and the possibility of a train wreck is hard to look away from.
