Didn't take long for the anti-Gunn brigade to start: "Something something glorification of torturing women something something..." I mean it's a horror movie. Plus Gunn is only a producer.

There's an eye injury spot I had to look away from.

There's an eye injury spot I had to look away from. This and John Wick 3... eye trauma seems to be in season.

Grace Randolph being controversial and clickbaity? I for one am shocked! For real though, I think she might be the worst YouTube critic out there today

There seems to be more stories about Superman, or inspired by him, being evil then actually good these days. :/

I saw it in a double feature with Booksmart (probably the best dirty teen comedy since Superbad.) I didn’t have expectations for either. As I don’t think I watched a trailer for either.
Brightburn was an alright horror film, watching the later trailers now they kinda show the whole movie. But you if only saw the teaser don’t expect any bigger world building.

There seems to be more stories about Superman, or inspired by him, being evil then actually good these days. :/ It's kinda like what has happened with the magical girl genre after Madoka Magica. So damn many edgy grimdark magical girl shows have popped up for the better part of a decade. Now, yes, there's always been dark magical girl shows, pretty much since the genre's inception, but the recent trend is just too out of whack compared to the genre trend previously.

The whole "evil Superman" thing took off with Injustice, because it was so different and hard to conceive of him being that bad. Now everyone's trying to create their own "evil Superman" that its lost its impact.
Also, remember when movie critics were either trained journalists or people who'd worked in the industry? Now anyone can buy a webcam and open a YouTube account and call themselves a critic. It actually undermines professional journalism.

One of her reasons, unspecified...seem to be “a safety issue”. The f*** does that even mean?! IIRC she claimed to have been threatened by James Gunn supporters after she took part in the campaign to get him fired from GOTG3, and again when she expressed her disgust that he was hired for Suicide Squad 2 and rehired by Marvel. Of course, making a big public fuss about not wanting to review a movie Gunn produced and throwing shade on Suicide Squad 2 is a great way to avoid a repeat. She seems like the kind of person the organizers of the campaign against James Gunn would call a "useful idiot."

Saw it and liked it. Kid was really creepy, and the tension and atmosphere was solid all around.
