So I tried the “Impossible burger” from White Castle just to see what the fuss was about and it wasn’t bad at all. I’m fine with eating meat generally (I had a deer burger once and it was wonderful) but just for a change of pace, does anyone know other decent vegetarian burgers or meat substitutes or recipes they could recommend?

Not vegetarian burger per se. But there is a few Burrito places where I usually eat the chilli "not-meat meat" version. I tried both and barely a difference.
Usually with burgers it is more noticeable I think since they are much more of the "main star".

Meatless mince in chilli or Bolognese to me is great. Can’t tell the difference with all the sauce and flavours.

I'm seeing the impossible burger show up more and more around the area, and I'm definitely digging it now and then.

A thick slice or two of fried eggplant makes for a decent meat patty substitute.

The two big ones everyone's raving about are the Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger. I've yet to find the Impossible anywhere in my neck of the woods, but a local fast food chain recently started selling the Beyond Burger, so I'm kind of curious.

Had a bean burger before. While I don’t think it really tasted like a burger, it was pretty good

Beyond Meat and the Linda Mccartney line are usually really good meat substitutes.

Ah damn, maybe I'm thinking of the Beyond one, good call. And yeah, black bean patties are awesome, too. Also had a fantastic portobello mushroom sandwich at Dinosaur BBQ in Newark, they cook it in the smoker with the meat. Still, lab grown meat is probably the future, so the sooner we get to that the better it'll be for the planet, I reckon.

To an extent, but I don't think chickens are going anywhere anytime soon, since people can't keep cows in their back yard, but chickens, certainly, on a small scale. As for these sorts of burgers, I'd be willing to try them, given I actually really hate ground beef. How something can be so greasy and so dry at the same time is a stunning contradiction.

It's not totally meatless, but I get salmon burgers at Kroger. Fry em on the skillet with a lil coconut oil and butter and that's good stuff.

The beyond is very tasty. I usually cook it in a skillet with some seasoning and oil and can’t tell the difference

I tried being vegan for a week (lost weight so I stopped....I’m forever bulking) and I had an impossible burger at a place called Bareburger. It was pretty good.

Supposedly, Dollar Tree has an amazing set of patties for $1. Never tried it, and I forget the exact brand, but it was one of those hidden gems over there (right alongside those delicious pancake/sausage-on-a-stick things).

I had the Impossible Burger at Cheesecake Factory it was alright. One good thing about it it's one of the few things at Cheesecake Factory that was under 14,000 calories

A&W has the Beyond Burger and a Veggie Burger, I like both. I've tried veggie burgers from other fast food places and they just don't seem to have... taste.

I assume you are talking about chicken, right?
To be serious, I can't really get beyond the texture of frozen veggie/vegan burgers. Broiled portobella Mushroom caps are a better option in my opinion.

Though I suppose they don't pretend otherwise, with Cheesecake in the name.

Recently tried some non-meat patties at a German-based burger franchise called Hans In Luck. Mine were olive-, spinach-cheese and walnut-based patties I tried during various visits. The first two were very delicious and are definitely something I would not mind having again if I am not in the mood for a meat patty, but the walnut one was too crumbly for my taste.
Since it kinda fits the topic, I am curious: do your places offer low-carb burgers as in replacing the bread buns with lettuce (like iceberg or similar)? Those seem to pop up around here recently.
