Was watching back some classic CHIKARA stuff earlier. Good lord, how good was Archibald Peck? Chuck Taylor, too. The interactions between them were priceless but there was just so much to love. I am hesitant to criticise CHIKARA and be one of those hankering for the good old days, because time moves on, but I never thought CHIKARA would. I always hoped it would just find it's way but I think it kind of got too wrapped up in itself and lost the plot and never really got it back. I think Ashes was the start of that, and it's just been getting worse ever since. Couldnt agree more, and they lost a lot of good talent for imo really stupid reasons if they're true, and they've been ill pressed to get any of that sort of talent pool back in return, kids are still too green for the most part and it's an uneven balance now. And then there's the ever present lack of good villains who either get put aside like Oceana or in Nicodemus's case get made complete fools of time and again so what's the point?

I suppose the only reason chikara is going is Quack's ego to be fair. He could get a gig at the WWE PC in a heartbeat, but it's just not how he rolls.
Honestly, I'm shocked CHIKARA returned after Ashes. Considering the real reason the company went radio silent and all that entailed, and how it's gone since, I'm a bit surprised the company is still going, even if it's a shell of its former self.

Yeah, I not that long ago said that CHIKARA seemed to be making slow progress to fix a lot of the issues that have been plaguing it the past few seasons. But this show...does not sound great, nor does it give me much hope for the upcoming season.
CHIKARA really feels like these days like one of those rock bands that used to be really great and an influence, but has since had most of its original members leave for varying reasons, and while it on occasion has some cool and talented new band members, it just isn't the same.
It really is crazy too how easily fixed that could be had Quack not treated people the way he did in the past. There's many pieces of what made old CHIKARA great still out there, actively wrestling and free to book that could still be in CHIKARA and helping elevate it.

Imagine if they were all still constants here and able to work with the new talent to help give them better matches and just an overall better show atmosphere, and they're not and CHIKARA just feels emptier. Sucks Akuma had to retire at least he was something. I miss others constantly too like Delirious, Jigsaw and the Super Smash Bros. 3.0 got signed to WWE so there's that, but it feels like they just... constanty blow through their talent anymore Hell I even greatly miss Vin Gerard... that's what it's come to!

I haven't watched any CHIKARA in a couple of years, so I don't really have the right to talk about the current product. But I see some people taking a trip down memory lane and I must admit...I really do miss the old days, too.
I'll never forget eagerly waiting for a new Podcast-A-Go-Go to get my short CHIKARA fix and taking advantage of Smart Mark Video's monthly deal to get a few DVDs to try and catch up on the product. But I can say the same thing for ROH, CZW, PWG, and a few others (all still a lot of fun, but also totally not the same anymore)...
I know things change over time, but I can't believe how drastically CHIKARA has.

The list is even bigger than that, dude, Space Monkey, Crossbones, Silver Ant, Amasis, Hieracon, 17, Sami, Arik Cannon, Darin Corbin, Pinkie, Jaka, 1/3rd of Devastation Corporation, Sinn Bodhi, Ashley Remington, Colin Delaney, Shynron, JERVIS FREAKIN COTTONBELLY AND THUNDERFROG, Argus, Turtle, Cheech & Cloudy, these are all guys that are active or semi-active still on the wrestling scene. Combine that with the names you mentioned and just look at it. These are guys that could go a long way to adding something to the product, even if they are only occasionally on shows (like would likely have to be the case for a guy like Ashley or Hieracon or Sami). CHIKARA's been no stranger to a revolving door of talent, even in the old days I admit. But it was always treated more like a comic book, people left for a time or left for a reason, would at least occasionally make cameo appearances afterwards and/or would come back in a new story that freshened them up. It was never as severe as it's become where characters and wrestlers of the main cast drop left and right. It always had that core. That's gone now. The roster is arguably as shallow as it's ever been, it's arguably one of the least experienced rosters it's had in some time, and everything just feels like it's going through the motions. Like Quack can't even bother to book a compelling wrestling show anymore. On a good wrestling show, even if it doesn't look like it at initial glance (like say UMB seemingly costing Hydra a match on purpose, but surely not, right? Hydra's UMB's boy! Why would he help Shane Storm?), mostly everything is leading to something. On an okay to bad wrestling show, things just happen. A lot of modern CHIKARA is things just happening.

I get what you're saying.
But a lot of people you listed burned their own bridges over the years. (JERVIS FREAKIN COTTONBELLY)
Several you listed have made recent appearances:
Crossbones had a match at Aniversario 2017. Then wrestled last summer in honestly one of the worst matches I've ever seen where his gear kept falling apart.
Cheech and Colin Delaney wrestled two tag team matches last year.
Arik Cannon made appearances in both 2018 and 17.
Thunderfrog came back at King of trios last year and is having a match at wrestlemania weekend. He's based out of Minnesota so him being a regular roster member isn't feasible.
Gresham wrestled at Clan Feuds this past year.
Ashley Remington's been signed to a contract. Not sure what you expect to happen there.

I agree, no real roster points, bad depth, stop and start storylines, so much talent gone for so many reasons. It really does sadly feel like a shell of itself, I still love some dudes there but a lot of the new talent outside of a select few like Razerhawk Huckabee and Blank have done jack shit to try and stand out and be any way compelling. This reminds me of Their 2005 years except worse because now you have a high standard of storytelling and wrestling you've put on for years, you aren't in Year Three where no one is paying attention to you and you can put on a Matt Bomboy vs Din Mak feud for a year among other crap... there's rebuilding and restructuring, but... CHIKARA has never been the same since the Shutdown, and even more so since The Flood Saga ended. It's just lost its heart.

Ashley Remington's been signed to a contract. Not sure what you expect to happen there. I'm pretty sure Chuck Taylor working for Ring of Honor is what kept him from continuing to work for Chikara as well. He's barely worked anywhere outside of ROH and NJPW since.

But a lot of people you listed burned their own bridges over the years. (JERVIS FREAKIN COTTONBELLY) I'm sure that Quack trying to swipe his gimmick out from under him via an attempt at trademarking didn't help that any. From what I can tell, said trademark attempt ended in failure because I can't find it on the trademarking site anymore (so Jervis likely would be able to switch back from Gentleman Jervis if he wanted), and a similar one to trademark for video game usage got refused.

I see a lot of discussion about how CHIKARA should bring back some of their old roster but I don’t think most of those people would want to work there again. Eddie Kingston was asked about going back in his Ego’s Amigos shoot. He said he never would because he didn’t want to work for free and that he didn’t get paid for years. Kevin Condron stated on twitter that anyone that spoke out about something they didn’t like would be replaced by someone that was willing to work for free. I know a lot of wrestlers will work for free to pay their dues or for exposure but CHIKARA doesn’t have the same level of visibility anymore. The risk isn’t going to be worth the reward to them. A lot of the former roster members being mentioned are making money elsewhere. I doubt they’d want to work for free or less than they make on other indies.

Oh yes, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want them to work for free or work for next to nothing or have the fear of being replaced looming over their heads. Hence why I implied I wish Quack hadn't...Quack'd so many of his relationships with these people and burned those bridges (because unlike what a poster above said, it was definitely Quack that burnt his bridge with Jervis and not the other way around. Let's not kid ourselves here). I'm more lamenting that CHIKARA for as fun as it can be and as entertaining as it can be, especially in the past, has an owner that is as shady as Quack is when handling his talent. Wishing that CHIKARA could still exist without necessarily a lot of the ugly baggage that's piled up over the years. It's not like it's the only large scale promotion around, or was one at one point, it's the only one out of the recent batch that has stories like the ones we've heard surfacing. Which is unfortunate as in my opinion it was the best of the batch at one point.

Thunderfrog came back at King of trios last year and is having a match at wrestlemania weekend. He's based out of Minnesota so him being a regular roster member isn't feasible.
I think one of the big sticking points for me is this, and more specifically, this didn't seem to be as much of an issue in the past as it has been in the last few years. In earlier seasons, you had shows where a good half the wrestlers were not only from outside the Pennsylvania area, but were from other countries. Guys like Emil Sitoci (The Netherlands), guys from Toryumon (Mexico), IWS (Canada), and Osaka Pro/DDT (Japan) were regular fixtures in Chikara in the earlier seasons. Jakob Hammermeier is from Georgia, I believe, and he made regular appearances until Quack limited the outside talent he was bringing in. A lot of these problems seem to have a common root, and that root seems to be that Quack is a bit of a skinflint. A number of the mainstays like Hallowicked and Icarus apparently have good shoot jobs, so they can wrestle wherever they want for as much or as little as they want. Guys like Eddie Kingston or Pinkie Sanchez, who live off their bookings, don't want to work Chikara anymore because of the low pay (or in Sanchez's case, not getting paid because he showed up late, despite actually working the match). It's Quack's promotion, so he can do what he wants with it, but to me, it seems a bit penny wise and dollar foolish to run your shows around underpaid greenhorns and to lowball established talents.

Odd you didn’t chose to respond to anything else from my earlier post. I didn't really feel it necessary to? But sure why not.
2017 and 2018, two appearances in the last two years. In your opinion his match was one of the worst, and hey, that's cool. I always felt Crossbones was strongest as a tag team wrestler anyways and think he could still be valuable to CHIKARA in a tag team or a trios team. Cheech and Colin Delaney wrestled two tag team matches last year.
Two matches last year. Arik Cannon made appearances in both 2018 and 17.
One appearance both years. Thunderfrog came back at King of trios last year and is having a match at wrestlemania weekend. He's based out of Minnesota so him being a regular roster member isn't feasible. One appearance last year, one appearance scheduled. Gresham wrestled at Clan Feuds this past year.
One appearance. Ashley Remington's been signed to a contract. Not sure what you expect to happen there. Yes. And he's wrestled elsewhere since being signed to that contract too. I admit I don't know the exact details of an ROH contract but it raises some questions that he's appeared for other indies since. But he couldn't for CHIKARA if that was the case? (Note I'm not saying that is the case.) I made it a point to emphasize what you said because I think it's great that these guys made the appearances they did, when they did, but it wasn't what I was talking about. In seasons past there was always a core roster, whom much of these guys were apart of, that would appear at all of the shows and a part time roster, whom again much of these guys were apart of, that would appear at most of the shows. Then there were the guests you'd see a handful of times a year, and then you'd have the one-off's. There was a general scale and hierarchy to everybody that modern CHIKARA lacks. I was saying it'd be nice if these guys could even be on a handful of shows a year than maybe one or two if we're lucky. That said the crux of my point was honestly better said by IgnahtaSempria. I think CHIKARA lost something when it dumped a lot of the guys it has, when it stopped having the drive-in or fly-in talents that used to be regular or semi-regular fixtures on the roster, when guys from all over the place would pop in on a consistent basis like a lot of the Canadian talent (which is where guys like 3.0 and SSB came from and eventually made their homes in CHIKARA for years) or the Midwest talent (where guys like Chuck Taylor and Ricochet surfaced out of). And it seems shortsighted and a shame that a lot of it comes down to "I wasn't paid and/or I was paid way below the standard and/or I was underappreciated and treated poorly" for a promotion that seems so progressive in a lot of ways like CHIKARA and for a guy that seems as intelligent and well spoken as Quack does. Furthermore though admittedly unrelated it makes me wonder what the heck is going on with the money when CHIKARA was running at one point comparable to a PWG or ROH in terms of size and attendance and yet wasn't paying most of its people viable wages and had alleged money issues in spite of that and has had to noticeably scale back and tighten its belt.

Between all the rumors as to why CHIKARA went into the shitter with money issues and the company needing to take a year long break, I think the one that holds the most weight is Joshimania Quack spent a shit ton of money to get a rosters worth of Joshi over to America for three separate shows in three separate venues. He probably spent a years budget or more on that alone thinking it would be a huge draw in the states, and it wasn't, and to put it lightly, having it happen as a Post-Finale event, High Noon ESPECIALLY, is another reason it bombed hard as well. That loss coupled with how CHIKARA was trying to expand and the expenses of that was also probably extremely taxing, CHIKARA I feel got completely knocked out of their system. By the time 2013 rolled around and they were advertising shows on the West Coast and multiple states (Which I still think was an incredibly dick move to do if you weren't gonna do them), Quack decided to play small ball, and then immediately tried to lowball everyone when they came back, which only continued further down the line of years. This isn't even factoring in how they ended their relationship with SmarkMark, a place that made them look super professional for years, to try and do their pwn production and it's never looked the same since. CHIKARATopia was a flop as well and they were banking on that to be what saved them from ditching SmarkMark and now they're right back with another third party in PowerBomb TV, so that didn't work out at all either. CHIKARA lost its creative storyline aspects, its creative settings by going smallball again and getting their own (small) homebase and barely going outside of it anymore, who knows how much they spent on the production of Ashes and lost trying to get it back from people to purchase the full "movie", and then decided to smallball their roster as well, and if you weren't gonna work for free and basically pay Quack to be there, or weren't a loyal to the core person like Icarus, Wicked, Ophidian, etc., then you were gone. It's well documented Quack also has tendencies to send out en mass emails post show to tell people what went wrong and what went right, basically putting anyone who was bad on blast to everyone, and that the special attraction people basically get paid all the money anymore, and if the gimmick was created in CHIKARA, he gets all the royalties and then some (See the Vokodor incident, and apparently this was a thing with Dan Champion who was going to be the original Orbit Assault Ant until Quack wanted Dan to pay out of his own money to buy an AUTHENTIC space helmet). There are even other unproven rumors that Quack personally under-trains guys or gets pissed when guys start getting over outside of CHIKARA, because he doesn't want people to leave his company and get paid elsewhere because he's lost so much talent already. Quack shot for the stars after High Noon, struck out, and held on as long as he could. The spirit was huge in the company, everyone believed in it, 2012 and 2013 were amazing follow up years, but in the end, we've seen where Quack's decisions have lead him, some of the only relevant threads about the company anymore outside of its own forum are people shaking their heads at where things inevitably went wrong with CHIKARA, and how the more time goes on, the more they seem to turn into more of an afterthought... It pains me to say it, but if Quack had more people around him to book and structure CHIKARA, it would probably be in way better shape, and we'd probably still have a lot more familiar faces here than we do. Excellence Pro Wrestling uses a ton of CHIKARA guys, and even a few CHIKARA Guys who never appear on CHIKARA shows anymore, and their atmosphere seems way more fun than CHIKARA's at this point, same can be said for a few other PA Locals, some where other CHIKARA wrestlers like Ultramantis Black still wrestle. So the question really is, if they're all working around CHIKARA, you really think the problem ISN'T CHIKARA in some form? Yeah... just saying.

I know several people I listed only made one or two appearances and now I know that wasn't exactly your point in the original thread.

So three baseball shows over the summer...
With a Johnny Kidd Invitational sized hole in June, it looks pretty much it till August. Only 2 shows at the Factory.

I’d bet those baseball shows are like Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force baseball show deals. Sold shows that CHIKARA gets paid for whether they draw or not. People might not be happy about them but it’s smart business.
