This past weekend at RPW's New Year's Resolution, Will Ospreay successfully made his first defense of The Never Openweight Title against Chris Brookes. Zack Sabre Jr also retained the British Heavyweight Championship against Shigehiro Irie Zack will wrestle in Portugal this weekend and I won't be able to go. I'm bummed

can we please get Bad Luck Fale out of main events please? Okada and Tanahashi vs. Jay White and BAD LUCK FALE?! That sounds awful. Even worse than New Year Dash did/was. Can we add another member to BC that would actually make a credible tag partner for Jay White? Hell throw in Ishimori. Okada/Tanahashi vs. White/Ishimori sounds WAY better. I don't get the BLF love. Maybe once upon a time as Devitt's enforcer, but since I've been watching regularly the last year I've been extremely unimpressed. Dude is stinking up main events now. Jay White should've just started his own faction at this rate. So long as BC feuds with them, you'll see Fale face Okada and Tanahashi, those two absolutely love working with the big guy.

At Sunday's Honor Reigns Supreme, Berreta got in Juice's face after their tag match and held the US title up motioning that he wants a title shot.

Another reason for KUSHIDA's exit reportedly revealed (WON):
"One of the things with KUSHIDA which led to his leaving for WWE is that early last year he wanted to go heel and join the Bullet Club, but Gedo wanted him to stay in his place. The deal was that New Japan needed the solid junior heavyweight guy, with Will Ospreay in CHAOS, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Desperado and Taka Michinoku in Suzuki-gun, Taiji Ishimori in Bullet Club and BUSHI and Hiromu Takahashi in LIJ. The home team side had Ryusuke Taguchi, but he’s more comedy now and only turning it on as a serious guy for a few matches a year like Super Juniors, and Tiger Mask and Jushin Liger are legends, but they are no longer in the singles title picture. That probably isn’t the only reason but it was part of it. He handled it professionally, working until 1/29, doing his clean jobs at the Dome and Dash, and because he handled it so professionally he’s getting his first career singles match with Hiroshi Tanahashi on his last night at Korakuen Hall."
With how the crowds have reacted to KUSHIDA over his run vs. people like Hiromu, Ospreay and BUSHI, maybe a turn would've been for the best.

Kinda funny that the night Kushida finally gets to move up to Heavyweight is his last night in the company.

I dunno, KUSHIDA seems like someone I just could not buy as a heel. He's almost a literal babyface to me. It only works if you give him some badass mask. I imagine the Ishimori signing was at least in negotiation around the time KUSHIDA made this request, and Ishimori was such a strong choice for Bullet Club that it made sense.
It wasn't a heel Junior run that KUSHIDA needed, it was an Openweight feud that everyone wanted. That's where they failed him.

NJPW does need to be called out for not developing more non-faction juniors, in that case. Having Kushida around as the "old reliable" in Seki-gun made sense, but the guy's too damn good and too damn valuable to just have hanging behind an "In Case of Emergency/Hiromu Injury, Break Glass" sign, and allowing him a booking change to freshen him up shouldn't be a big deal if you have some non-faction juniors who can step up...but as of right now, they don't have enough.
Ugh, whole thing bums me out, I just love watching the dude work and it stings more if there was a legitimate possibility that he could've stuck around with some better booking via either a heel turn or an openweight run.

My mind is still kind of blown that I was in the audience for KUSHIDA’s only major singles match a heavyweight in Ishii. Like, considering that went nowhere, that feels really weird to me.

To be fair, he had one match against Ishii in Japan for the NEVER belt, but he lost and never wound up in an angle for the belt again. I suppose the story could be a bit of projection ("Kushida doesn't get a booking request granted and then leaves, there MUST be a connection!"), but yeah...a bummer.

It just feels weird they allowed that to be booked in IRELAND of all places, not even for Rev Pro, and not have it really go anywhere.
