Ignoring the cool and good save of Main Eventer Chuck Taylor due to government shenanigans. I have a question for this thread.
Who was the color guy alongside Mavs Gillis at the final Fantastica Mania show?

It kinda goes without saying the cards are a huge disappointment. We don't even get the Ishii Nagata match that was being built up Voices of Wrestling are saying that the Government shutdown has hurt these cards, as visas couldn't be approved. That news should have been coming from NJPW.

There's a couple good matches on there. US Title Finlay vs Taylor, RPG Vice vs Juice and Tracey for starters. Always good to see Cobb as well as Scurll and Brody. Gresham is one of ROH's best their having as well

Voices of Wrestling are saying that the Government shutdown has hurt these cards, as visas couldn't be approved. That news should have been coming from NJPW. It is now Regarding THE NEW BEGINNING in USA"It is with great disappointment that we must announce that due to the ongoing 2018–19 United States federal government shutdown, we were unable to obtain visas for our Japanese talent who were looking forward to seeing our US fans at the New Beginning in USA. We are excited to still be able to share a great line-up with our US fans, regardless of visa issues. The IWGP US Champion, Juice Robinson, is defending his title against Barretta and The Great O-Kharn, who is flying in from England, will be debuting in New Japan! What’s more, this show will highlight the talent and potential of our Young Lions, who have been working hard in the NJPW LA dojo. We are looking forward to being able to celebrate the abilities of the exciting new generation of young NJPW wrestlers."

Gresham is one of ROH's best their having as well It's not terrible shows, but not really New Japan shows. These are basically ROH cards. FinJuice are even in the ROH tag tournament. Better off waiting for War of Worlds, where you will probably at least see LIJ and Goto.

I’m seeing the names Alex Coughlin, Karl Fredericks, and Clark Connors a depressing amount of time.

Yeah, Goto/Ishii/Nagata being booked told me that New Japan is recognizing that the west loves vintage strong style wrestling (see: Suzuki and Ishii in the UK), I was hoping this would lead to something more. Won't get into the issues of the shutdown itself for obvious board rule reasons, but the whole situation just sucks.

It does explain why they waited until a week before to announce the cards.
But this does give a chance for guys like Tyler Bateman, Harlem Bravado and others to impress and maybe get another look due to it

Not in the final night, it was some guy named Tom. Alright, I was afraid I had really misjudged my ability to discern when I hear Chris Charlton's Harry Potter tones. Either way I liked him and Mavs on comms. Mavs was going a bit too fast, but unless he doesn't slow with experience he seemed like he will be pretty solid second tier english language commentator.

This whole situation does make me a little afraid of buying a ticket for the London show in August before anything is announced for the card. I know it is a totally different situation to this, but still, the fear is there.

Looked some info up
Harlem Bravado is one half of a Brother tag team who's wrestled in NOAH, DG and ROH.
Tracer X is a four year pro who works primarily in the Carolinas and The South. He appeared on an episode of 205 Live the past August being defeated by Hideo Itami
Tyler Bateman has the most experience a 16 year pro and wrestles in California as well as being a tag partner of Brody King

I know it is a totally different situation to this, but still, the fear is there. I wouldn't worry about that. In some ways, New Japan's UK and Oceania shows have been stronger and you can tell they have a better focus with them. Even if that London show is a glorified RPW show with just Suzuki-gun and Ishii, it's still going to be much better than these three US shows put together.

I’ve also seen a lot of Tyler Bateman over the years on CWFH, and he just seems like such a try-hard dork to me.

This is a bad situation and I hope New Japan pulls some kind of make-good with this, but I also feel like there isn't much at all that can be done. The situation is so far out of their hands and so legitimately not their fault, because regardless of how anyone feels about the stateside shows they've put on, this was never the intention.
