It's a case by case thing. I never called Big E "Langston", even when he used the name, or Triple H "Helmsley". I'd be more inclined to call Bull Nakano "Nakano" rather than "Bull".

All based on my personal use/observations but:
Roman. Brock. AJ. Braun. Jinder. Shelton. Kofi. Big E back when he still had Langston, Elias when he still had Samson. Bret. Shawn. Lince. HHH sometimes gets called Hunter, which is his gimmick first name. Certainly gets called it by people in the business- on which note Cesaro gets called Tony by Sheamus, DDP gets Dally from Scott Hall & others. Jake Roberts always gets Jake. Eddie & Chavo got Eddie & Chavo.
Dolph gets Dolph as much as he gets Ziggler. I tend to go with Nakamura but he gets Shinsuke and 'Nak' as well. I feel like Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre get both names used pretty comparably or sometimes the forename more.
Ric Flair is still about (and gets Ric a lot), so it makes sense for Charlotte to get Charlotte to distinguish who you mean. Ditto distingushing between both Bellas.
On the flipside, we have BOBBY Roode & BOBBY Lashley, JOHN Cena & JOHNNY Gargano, Matt Riddle will get Riddle because Matt Hardy gets Matt to distinguish from Jeff. If you're talking historical, how many Chrises and Steven/Stevies have we had at once in the past? Benoit & Jericho, Richards & Nowinski, long-term we've even had 3 Deans in WWE, another Bob, two Lances. Women's wrestlers generally repeat forenames a lot less than the male wrestlers, which is a bit odd, but helps distinguish them. I can only think of Nikki Cross and Nikki Bella repeating, and Nikki Cross generally gets Cross as a result.
There possibly is a slight split/trend overall, but honestly I can't say that I care. Especially since it's usually down to just which name is more identifiable or easier to say/type, or keeping consistent with whichever name you said first in a given conversation- it can sound weird to flip-flop from one to the other.

Bret Hart is usually referred to by his first name. As does Dolph Ziggler. AJ Styles gets called by both. I guess it depends on the wrestler.

I mean, with Bret it's in part because there's no shortage of other Harts. Kind of like how you generally have to call the Hardys by their full names unless it's already established you're talking about them.

Most of the time I’m not consistent with names or surnames. I find myself calling Charlotte Flair “Flair” a lot because Ric’s not on WWE TV as often anymore. I’ll type out “Seth” or “Dean” when referring to Ambrose or Rollins. But then I call Becky Lynch “Becky” a lot, while I tend to call Alexa Bliss “Bliss”. I always felt the first-name-only woman thing was cornball. Like Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin gets three names, and she’s just “Precious”. Bleh. With me I just use the name which feels better using. Sometimes i will flip flop .Like Charlotte Flair, sometimes I will say Flair if the context is obvious. Dolph Ziggler too ,sometimes Dolph, sometimes Ziggler I dont think i ever called Alexa Bliss just Alexa for example,or Alex Riley "Alex". it is one of those names that doesnt feel right to me by itself.

I vary with how I refer to some of the men and women: Styles, Lesnar, Joe, Nakamura, Bliss, Royce, Kay, Cross, Baszler, Ambrose, Rollins, etc. A lot of people say "Braun", but I have been inconsistent on that one. I call Mickie James "Mickie", because otherwise it'll sound like I'm talking about "Road Dogg" Jesse James, even if he hasn't used the full name in a while. Becky Lynch is "Becky" for me, due to...

Many of the women's entire gimmick names are their first name. The reverse is true for many of the men. Lana and Rusev. Cesaro. Natalya. I'm definitely in favour of changing our language to show respect to all, but this is something WWE need to do for us. I had never stopped to consider that Lana's full name is technically Lana Rusev.

"Bull" is a surprisingly common first name in wrestling among every gender. It could mean Nakano, Buchanan, Dempsey, Bull James (gotta use the full name on that one) and a whole host of unkowns.

I think there is no need to overthink these things, and I don’t think it is something that should worry about causing offence. I would suggest that there will be a way you natuarally refer to each wrestler regardless of gender. Be it surname or first name - it is still their name.
Certainly I constantly refer to Seth, Brock, AJ etc. I think it is often just a case of which name is most distinctive - or how much you like the wrestler.

In football this is common. We don’t say “Lionel scored a good goal.”, we say “Messi scored a good goal.” In wrestling, it varies for me. I find myself calling the women by their first name... but the men? It sounds weird to say “I can’t wait to see Kevin vs John!”Examples... I often say “Roman” instead of Reigns. I prefer to say Jinder, Shinsuke, AJ, Braun and Brock over their last names aswell. Kevin Nash vs John Cena? No thanks.

I think it would sound weird referring to some guys as their last name. I don't think I've EVER seen anyone refer to Kofi as just "Kingston".

For some reason, I just call Pete Dunne “Peter” most of the time.

I mostly call guys by their last name but there’s a few I use their first. I usually refer to Drew McIntyre as Drew but I refer to Drew Gulak as Gulak. With the women it comes down to the fact that for a while so few of them actually got last names that it’s just engrained to go by the first.
