It's a bit like false advertising with Dunne. You expect a gritty talker with some swagger. For a guy who smirks as much as he does you would expect some fire in his voice when he speaks but there is none. That's really the only problem I have with him, oh and that 1950's womens bathing suit.

The attire was offputting at first but honestly I don't mind it at this point. It's nice to have some variety.

I hate to be that guy but I think we are forgetting he's awful on the mic. I don’t mean to use you as an example here but this has been something that’s annoyed me for a really long time and I feel this is the right place to say it. WWE’s biggest problem, and the one major thing that is keeping it from making stars, is expecting everyone to fit in this singular shape and mould to become a top guy and we as fans buy into this narrative because that’s what we think a star is since, as the top company in the world, that’s what they see as successful. I get it; different people also have different standards for their top or favorite guys. I really do. At the same time, if you have the facilities and money to make improvements to people to make them draw more...why can’t you try and make it work? Because it feels like they give up or don’t try most of the time. Trevor Lee or Pete Dunne don’t have the standard “voice”? Cool, give them a manager. Ember Moon doesn’t have a gimmick? Cool, give her one. Braun Strowman can’t cut 20 minute promos? DON’T HAVE HIM CUT 20 MINUTE PROMOS! I hear what you're saying, but I don't think the issue is really trying to fit Dunne into being The Rock at this point (that'll happen if he joins the main US roster). My main frustration with Dunne is the opposite, kinda. He has a distinctive look (snotty punk kid bully) and ring style (technically minded bad-ass) that... don't necessarily go together smoothly, especially as a face. They could, and he seems to have put thought into it, but I don't think he really pulls it off. When he's in angles that I've seen, he actually makes himself kinda generic: "Grr I'm mad at you!" Which again isn't BAD but it's not ideal either. Point is, he of course doesn't have to be The Rock, but wrestling is acting, so the better you get at acting the better it's going to make everything. "He's bad at promos" often stands in for "his character work ain't super."

I don't mind the gear. I'm so used to it, I'd have a really difficult time picturing him in trunks or something.

I get why people may not like him on the mic, I do.
It works for me, though, as I think it makes him sound legit. He sounds like he'd rather be kicking someone's head in rather than standing around talking about it. I think it adds to the Bruiserweight gimmick, if anything.
Sure, his mic skills may limit him if he's pushed to a position where he needs to carry the A-shows and cut 20-min promos, but that's a production issue if anything. He's probably just not cut out to be WWE's 'top top guy', and that's OK.
For me though he has a lot of major, major upsides and with age on his side, can go much much further than his current standing.

I'm really surprised he's still doing the finger snap. Implying broken bones is way more violent than modern day WWE usually is.

Why does he put his fists next to his mouth as his signature pose? Are you actually asking in case there's a story behind it? Because otherwise it's a bit of a weird question in an industry of guys who just do poses because they do poses and it eventually caught on. Dunne's been one of my top guys since the first time I saw him at the UK Championship tournament Same. The first UK tournament I basically decided he was the future of my fandom of wrestling even if not the industry, and he's not let me down since (except for NXT never giving him a face turn but just booking him against heels, although I like that his character remains unchanged). I get why people may not like him on the mic, I do. It works for me, though, as I think it makes him sound legit. He sounds like he'd rather be kicking someone's head in rather than standing around talking about it. I think it adds to the Bruiserweight gimmick, if anything. For me though he has a lot of major, major upsides and with age on his side, can go much much further than his current standing. To be honest, I wonder how much of the divide on his mic work being bad/good or at least not bothersome is between UK fans and American fans. I like Dunne's promo style, and I don't think it's remotely gimmick-killing that he talks the way he does. But I don't know how many of the people from the US have been threatened by a Brummie... I'm really surprised he's still doing the finger snap. Implying broken bones is way more violent than modern day WWE usually is. It looks nasty as shit and in most cases is totally safe. I love that shit!

I enjoy the finger breaking gimmick, but it really does stretch the suspension of disbelief. Like, the entire roster is REALLY quick at rehabbing finger injuries.

Pete Dunne has grown on me.
They haven't kept that title on him for so long for nothing. As long as he continues to defend it and prove his worth, he can hold it as long as he damn well pleases.

I love Dunne, he's a star, but I've always thought that Tyler Bate has the highest ceiling of the BSS guys. I think Tyler needs a new last name. It's too easy to add "Master" to his last name.

We complain about WWE faces being unremarkable at times, but Peter being a badass sadist who takes out his frustrations on the heels os something that I really enjoy.

I hate to be that guy but I think we are forgetting he's awful on the mic. Saw him on a breakfast show in the UK and he looked nervous, stiff and was really quiet. It's hard to buy him as the Bruiserweight when he is this quiet wooden guy in real life. I dunno about that. To me "Bruiserweight" implies a tough guy fighter not a top class public speaker. If anything I think that nickname implies he doesn't talk much and he's all action.

I didn’t like his attire originally either, but now I think it’s fine. It probably helps he’s gotten into a bit better shape, and the black outfit looks much better than the maroon.
The joint manipulation stuff, if done wrong, can be terrible (I’m looking at you, Zack Sabre). But Dunne does it with an intensity that makes it look extra painful.
And I don’t get the dislike for his mic skills. He could definitely use some work, but he’s still in developmental, so he’ll get there. And a manager wouldn’t be terrible, Regal or maybe even McGuinness would be awesome managers for him if he’s not promo ready for the main roster.
