As someone who grew up nestled in the northeast, I was a WWF kid for my whole adolescence. I love Bret Hart but am not well versed in his WCW run.
What were his best matches? I am familiar with the Owen tribute Benoit match, but not much else.
Thanks for all the help!

His match with Flair at Souled Out 98 is really good.

There's the Benoit match, but obviously, understandable if that's one you can't stomach now.

To tell you the truth, other than the match against Benoit as a tribute to Owen, I don’t remember a match Bret had in wcw that was good.
Bischoff just wanted to sign Bret Hart, but once that happened he had no idea what to do with him.

I also liked his match at Slamboree 98 vs Savage.

The Booker T matches from Nitro are some deep cut excellence. Their chemistry is absolutely off the charts and worth checking out.

I also liked his match at Slamboree 98 vs Savage. Came here to say this. That and vs Benoit in 1999. Shame his WCW run is so forgettable.

Most of his face single matches from January 98 - April 98 and September 99 - December 99 are pretty good actually. His matches with Flair, Hennig, Sting, Benoit, and Jarrett are pretty solid (his Goldberg match had the makings of a good match until the f*** finish). He did have a few good heel matches in between but they just felt uninspired which you can partly blame Bret for but the booking should also shoulder some of that as the matches often just broke down into screwy finishes and Bret's character was just undeveloped. He also just worked an unusually light schedule in terms of televised matches and the ones he was booked for just weren't setup to be that memorable. Like half of his matches in his first run were against the likes of Brian Adams. It's a shame, he had the ability to still be a top level worker and showed that several times. I just wish WCW would have given him more chances to be that.

A lot of Bret's WCW matches didn't stand out. It's not that they were bad, they were just kind of there.

I've only seen a handful of Bret's WCW matches but all of them were sub par compared to his WWF run. They either had screwy finishes, involved Hogan, or both.

Bret working with more of the younger guys would have been tremendous. Him and Jericho, Rey, Eddie back then all would have been awesome. He had a short TV match with Finlay that would have been a sweet feud too.

Am I remembering wrongly or did he actually get a surprisingly good match out of Goldberg at Starrcade 1999? I know the kick in that match ended his career, but... good match?

There's the Benoit match, but obviously, understandable if that's one you can't stomach now. I still think it's crazy that Bret putting Benoit in the SharpShooter was in the intro to Malcolm in the Middle. But wasn't it the story that Bret actually wanted to lose the match, and Benoit was like, "No f***ing way you're losing a match dedicated to your recently deceased brother."

He had a very underrated match in early 99 against Malenko.

If they booked him to lose, apparently he was ok with it, but Benoit thought it would be crazy for him to lose the match.
