officialfan.proboards.com/thread/400625/punk-nash-who-legit-fightSo someone linked me this thread and oh boy is it a f***ing trip in retrospect. Like, just seeing how prevalent the myth of Punk's ~martial arts training~ was with everyone at the time (me included, but not in the thread obvs) is so crazy, mainly given how that actually turned out. Shortly thereafter, it hit me, we need to get a consensus on this again. Everything regarding the possibility of this fight has changed so much and we need to go full My Dad Could Beat Up Your Dad one more time. So, 8 years later with -100000 tough bro points on one side and presumably shittier knees on the other, who would win? For me, after seeing how Punk actually functions in a fight, I can't not go with Nash on this. I feel like Punk would 1000% swing at him like a f***ing dork and just get clobbered to death. Like someone challenging a tree to a deathmatch and getting his ass beat.

The idea that anyone ever thought CM Punk had legitimate martial arts skills is hilarious to me.
His kicks always looked like trash, he trained with two of the most questionable jiu jitsu guys in the world in terms of the mainstream jiu jitsu scene and oh my god when we finally saw his open workouts...
That said, Nash is REALLY old so I don't know.

Even if Punk is completely awful at MMA, he still had basic training and his body wont fall apart with one bad touch.
So yeh.
Maybe prime Nash would win,and even then I think he is more talk than action.

Punk would trip on a banana peel that manages to carry him slipping for about fifty feet into a stacked pile of tomato soup cans that knock him unconscious. Nash then claims on every podcast appearance from that moment onward that he knocked that mark out with his bare hands.

Man, mostly what I'm getting from that board is how crappy the tone on here used to be. The mods have really done a great job making this place more pleasant.

Why is this a serious question? Punk was an awful fighter but at least he was trained and knows basic stuff, Kevin Nash only knows how to choreographed fights.

In the UFC, CM Punk got his ass handed down to him by professional fighters, not by civilians.

Seriously. I know this is gonna be all "I'm a tough guy on the internet" but I'm a lifelong martial artist. I'm literally a gold medallist for my province in Judo and BJJ and I cannot understate how BAD Punk was. Basic concepts like breaking your opponents posture while they're in your guard, or what the hooks are for when you're on someone's back - as demonstrated in his open workout - he didn't seem to get. I LOVE Punk, he's in my top five of all time but as a legitimate fighter I have literally seen people be better than he was after a month of training. I don't know what it was, but he learned nothing.

I am going to bet that Kevin Nash was in a lot more street fights than CM Punk. Punk is good at elbowing unsuspecting fans in the face, but Nash grew up in Detroit, was a military policeman and a bouncer at a strip club. Nash has much more "street" experience than Punk, who just paid guys to show him mma moves that he performed very slowly and poorly.

Punk is no Helio Gracie in bjj or Badr Hari in kickboxing but he at least knew something. Punk won’t be able to dismantle real fighters, but I give him a great shot against regular people who never rolled or sparred a day in their life like Kevin Nash. Kevin Nash is a basketball player who turned into a fake choreographed fighter because his knees collapsed. On the other hand, Punk has trained for close to three years. A 1-30 boxer might be a joke but he would kill civilians.

First DAY in any reputable class.

Then please list the real fights Kevin Nash ever had in his life, I’m waiting. Is there evidence of Nash being a tough guy? Nash loves to talk but is there anything to him actually being tough?

I only won thankfully because the other scrub was worse than me if that’s even possible. CM Punk made a mistake by not fighting in small shows and getting experience, he then was murdered by people with legit brown belt and then a golden gloves boxer. All that being said, Punk can still beat up a guy who never fought in his life and it’s just tall. Kevin Nash is not Haku nor Rick Rude, come on.

Would a YMCA amateur basketball player lose a pick up game against someone who never played basketball in his life?

Obviously I don't have documentation, but I think it's fairly safe to say considering the situations he was in, there was fighting involved. Nobody has came forward and called Nash on his toughman persona being BS. We have seen that with Punk, both in MMA and Teddy Hart beating his ass.

Kevin Nash is in his fifties, has bum knees, and has never competed in any sort of combat sport.
But Punk does the Guile shuffle and has those hilarious-looking spinny kicks.
...I'm kinda leaning towards Kev on this one, guys.

How do you stop someone from punching you then? You break their posture and pull their head down. I speak from experience too. I do not believe Punk's level of competence is anything higher than a guy off the street, and if it's two guys off the street I think it's a toss up. I never called him Haku or Rick Rude.

First off I never said Punk was tough or a badass just that he had basic training. Something Nash doesn’t have. Bill Watts actually debunked Nash’s tough guy bullshit gimmick, and Nash admitted it in a shoot interview. Nash as a rookie botched a match in wcw when Watts was running it, well Watts told Nash that he needed to teach him a lesson, Watts then punched Nash and Kevin just took it without doing anything. Nash is a bullshit ballet dancer just like ninety percent of the guys in wrestling, Punk included, only difference is that at least Punk received some training.

You say that because you know what you’re doing after years of training and experience, you obviously can destroy Punk, Kevin Nash can’t. Punk may not know how to break postures and have any sort of guard but he still has very basic amateur bullshit moves, Nash has none, he’s just big.

I know we're disagree in this thread but "bullshit ballet dancer" is awesome and I'm stealing it. Since we're not going to agree - and I totally see your point! - since we know a bit more about JBL, who do you think wins between HIM and Punk in a fight?
