Meanwhile, his attempt to sell Vince on an IC Champ vs. IC Champ match against Seth for Summerslam didn't go anywhere As an aside, I really don't understand why on earth he would've even thought it would? It was a stupid idea. Seth really totally eclipses him in terms of the level of threat they're portrayed as and Jericho showing up with a belt that might as well be a made-up one like the Million Dollar title in the eyes of most of the viewers wouldn't have done a thing to make the idea any more credible. Add to that that it'd just be making NJPW look bad because Jericho would 100% be losing (assuming they even got THAT much out of it, given their name isn't even on the belt so a lot of people probably wouldn't even make the connection) and it's just a scenario where everyone loses. He thought it was a good idea because he's Chris Jericho, and he thought this was a good idea:

Oh of course they weren't. Vince was fine with letting him work in Japan but it seems like since Vince said no to the cruise Jericho has just said f*** it and doing what he wants
Chris is bigger outside the WWE than he is in it and while it be nice to have Chris around, they don't really need him there either.
It's the best option for all parties really while Chris still has his options open with NJPW as well
This is just my opinion but I think the botched ending of his feud with Kevin Owens really hurt his standing in the wwe. When Vince told Owen that he hated their match at wrestlemania, it’s still awkward to watch. Based on the podcast... I think Vince basically ignoring his IWGP I-C vs WWE I-C match idea at Summerslam could’ve been the last straw.

I absolutely love this "I do whatever I want no matter how dumb it is" version of Jericho.
He's out of f***s to give and just wants to have fun with the rest of his career and I think it's a hoot.
Bad tattoos. Boats. TNA. Clockwork Orange inspired face paint. I want this to keep going until he reaches Scott Steiner with a live tiger levels of absurdity.
Cannot wait to see what AEW lets him do because they just don't want to tell him no.

Also yeah obviously Vince was never going to say yes to the IC vs. IC title match, and the logistics of co-promoting something like that ran deeper than he really cared to realize, at least on the surface. But at the same time peoples' reasons for doing things aren't exactly always rational, and the situation is something I'd compare to divorced parents where one always tells the kid yes to everything and the other doesn't; of course the kid is going to like the parent who lets them do whatever they want and give them everything they ask for. Vince is the uncool parent instilling a curfew and spending within their means in this analogy, as weird and unfitting as that is. Every taste of freedom and "yeah Chris of course, whatever you want" makes him like staying with his mom and her cool new step-dad who owns an ATV so much more.

I guess we don't know if they'd tell him no when he can't back it up, since honestly, he's been looking like a doofus, maybe, but he's been having REALLY good matches. So far, no real reason to tell him to reign it in yet.

What did Jericho drink that night to think that Vince would even consider it?

I think it ain’t crazy and it’s actually very calculated, for all the shit I talk about him, he’s a wrestling genius. f***er has his finger on the pulse, and he’s riding the wave of the Elite. Also without the wwe machine behind him, he’s doing anything to keep his name out there. I think we’re gonna get shit weirder than Steiner walking a tiger to the ring. When he had a short run in FMW, Jericho pitched a costume that had wings and threw fire, he was ignored because it was impossible to build. I think in the near future we may be getting stuff like that.

Jericho says a lot of things. Exactly what I was going to say. Jericho has way more value to somewhere like TNA or AEW at this stage, and will get the freedom he needs to mid life crisis all over the place too, so he's in a good spot.

I guess he may have thought that since A. they have leaned on NJPW history with winks and nods for AJ, The Club (hence the name), Balor, and Nakamura to an extent, and B. bringing in Liger for a match, that it would have not been too out there, but guess this was a bridge too far for Vince.

Its only a matter of time. Everytime a promoter told him that he was either crazy or that they couldn’t do it because of the laws of physics, he’ll show them. I’m imagining Jericho yelling at a perplexed engineer to build him the Vulture’s flying gear.

Liger might be the best cruiserweight ever but by that point he wasn’t exactly a player in New Japan. Naito on the other hand is the biggest star, behind Okada, in New Japan.

It would’ve been a dream match and moment that people would be talking about. There’s just one problem, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Vince doesn’t like sharing his toys, he likes to steal your toys from under you. Vince wants to own and control everything, that’s why when the CFL offered him to buy a team, Vince instead wanted to buy the whole league.

It must be why I will never be rich because I just don't get it. He's at the point now where he is the Disney of professional wrestling ("sports entertainment"). Save for some kind of catastrophic event, his company cannot be challenged. What harm would it really do to provide fans a dream match like the IWGP IC Champ vs. WWE IC Champ could be? Oh well....

Vince is greedy. That’s why we can’t have nice things. He did the talent exchange stuff he did with ecw because he was desperate and the wwf was dying, then he featured cmll guys but with the understanding that he wanted to buy the company, once that folded he told cmll to f*** off. The last time he did a talent exchange deal was when tna almost sued them for tampering.

Because Jericho vs Seth isn't a "dream match". The novelty is seeing the IWGP IC title on WWE TV but how many fans will actually care about that
It does nothing for NJPW and nothing for WWE, it only benefits Jericho
If WWE and NJPW had a working relationship than it be an entirely different ballgame

Not only that, but at the moment he's still a draw; dude helped bring in a ton of new NJPW World subscribers, and within Japan he's a pretty big deal. I'm sure it'd level off if he was on TV every single week again, but at this phase of his career he can pull the "special attraction" thing off very well.
