Contestants, Judges, our wonderful studio audience, and the millions watching the Freakin' Awesome Network from home, here are the results for
Round 18 : Finale : Leaving a Legacy!!!
After 18 Rounds, 2 Sudden Death Rounds, and a Finale comprised of seven categories to test their worthiness of the mantle of FAN Idol, we have a winner!!!
So, for the final time this Season:
Brainbustaaah!, representing Team @babaganoush!!!
and
Brandon Walsh is Insane., representing Team
fw91!!!
Please step forward!
You are our two Finalists and one of you is now poised to become FAN Idol of Season XII!!! One of will join the hallowed ranks of past FAN Idol winners, a list that includes
Allison Reynolds,
Orange,
Square,
fw91,
Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!%@h, and
Widow's Peak. This competition was first held in 2010 and has become more difficult, more involved, and filled with more accomplished players season after season. For Season XII, we have had players who compete game after game, becoming the backbone of this competition over the years, as well as first time competitors that have wowed our Judges with their fresh takes. The Finale epitomizes this dichotomy.
Before we move forward, please give a round of applause to our four Judges and Team Leaders:
@babaganoush
fw91JazzmanSpider2024It is often a thankless role to judge a game like this. When you "get things" right, players think you're great but, when your verdicts don't line up with what people want, you're anything but great. We're all just players that love music in the end, regardless of our experience, but I think it says something about the music our players choose when our Judges come to an agreement. They each have their unique music tastes and perspectives about how to play FAN Idol, so it is special to touch them all musically.
So, with that said, here are the results! But first...
"We went on the roof in order to resolve the live concert idea, because it was much simpler than going anywhere else; also nobody had ever done that, so it would be interesting to see what happened when we started playing up there. It was a nice little social study.
We set up a camera in the Apple reception area, behind a window so nobody could see it, and we filmed people coming in. The police and everybody came in saying, 'You can't do that! You've got to stop.'
George Harrison
Anthology"
30 January 1969 in London was a cold day, and a bitter wind was blowing on the rooftop by midday. To cope with the weather, John Lennon borrowed Yoko Ono's fur coat, and Ringo Starr wore his wife Maureen Starkey's red mac.
"There was a plan to play live somewhere. We were wondering where we could go β 'Oh, the Palladium or the Sahara.' But we would have had to take all the stuff, so we decided, 'Let's get up on the roof.' We had Mal and Neil set the equipment up on the roof, and we did those tracks. I remember it was cold and windy and damp, but all the people looking out from offices were really enjoying it."
Ringo Starr
Anthology
The 42-minute show was recorded onto two eight-track machines in the basement of Apple, by George Martin, engineer Glyn Johns and tape operator Alan Parsons. The tracks were filled with the following: Paul McCartney, vocals; John Lennon's and George Harrison's vocals; Billy Preston's organ; McCartney's bass guitar; a sync track for the film crew; Starr's drums; Lennon's guitar; Harrison's guitar.
The Beatles, with Billy Preston, gave their final live performance atop the Apple building at 3 Savile Row, London, in what became the climax of their Let It Be film.
"Traffic in Savile Row and neighbouring streets came to a halt, until police from the nearby West End Central police station, further up Savile Row, entered Apple and ordered the group to stop playing.
It was good fun, actually. We had to set the mikes up and get a show together. I remember seeing Vicki Wickham of Ready, Steady, Go! (there's a name to conjure with) on the opposite roof, for some reason, with the street between us. She and a couple of friends sat there, and then the secretaries from the lawyers' offices next door came out on their roof.
We decided to go through all the stuff we'd been rehearsing and record it. If we got a good take on it then that would be the recording; if not, we'd use one of the earlier takes that we'd done downstairs in the basement. It was really good fun because it was outdoors, which was unusual for us. We hadn't played outdoors for a long time.
It was a very strange location because there was no audience except for Vicki Wickham and a few others. So we were playing virtually to nothing β to the sky, which was quite nice. They filmed downstairs in the street β and there were a lot of city gents looking up: 'What's that noise?'

With that recap, let's reveal the results.
We'll start with our first category, Classical music. Rarely employed in FAN Idol and often intimidating to listeners, our two would-be FAN Idols stepped up to the challenge. Brainbustaaah! selected Gustav Holst's relentless, almost Metal like Mars, Bringer of War, while Zack Morris is Insane. countered with the epochal Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 by Richard Strauss, famed for its use in Stanley Kubrick's epic 2001 : A Space Odyssey!!!
Taking 3 votes to 1 and earning 1 point is...

Zack Morris is Insane!!! 1-0, Zack; 3 votes to 1!
For the second category, our two fantastic contestants had to choose songs recorded before they were born. Spry yet, both contestants chose hard rock, Zack Morris is Insane. returning strong with AC/DC's Back in Black, while Brainbustaaah! glammed it up with Skid Row's Slab to the Grind!!!
What happened when these Rock Gods collided?

It's a tie, 2-2!!! 1-0 Zack Morris, with the votes 5-3!
Moving on to the third category, our two Finalists stepped into the contemporary music scene. They were asked to send us songs that were ranked in the Billboard Top 100 in the last month, knowledge of the charts being vital for an Idol. Zack Morris is Insane. sent in the unlikely collaboration of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus on the chart topping Old Time Road! Brainbustaaah!, with his finger on the pulse of contemporary music, brought forth the hip hop all-star collaboration SICKO MODE by Travis Scott!
Who won this duel of beats and guest stars? With 3 votes to 1, a point goes to...
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
Zack Morris is Insane.!!! 2 points to 0, Zack Morris, 3-1 votes, 8-4 votes)
For the second part of the Present portion of this challenge, our two musical alchemists were to select songs from albums released during this past year. This was especially tricky, as it gave the contestants a narrow time period with nearly limitless music choices to pick from. Zack Morris is Insane. employed the radiowave juggernaut Sweet but Psycho by Ava Max, with Brainbustaaah! throwing down with the notorious Nicki Minaj and her street fighting Chun-Li!
For the fourth song of our competition...

We have another tie, 2-2!!! So close!
2-0, Zack Morris, 10-6 votes!
With their fifth selection, our Finalists had to set their sights on the future of the recording industry. To be FAN Idol means that a champion has to stay on top of trends and play Nostradamus when it comes to talent. Selecting musicians 18 years or younger to blow out Judge's minds, Brainbustaaah! led with Billie Eilish's you should see me in a crown from her full length debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?! Zack Morris is embraced embraced the theme, dropping the ukulele-playing winner of America"s Got Talent, wunderkind Grace VanderWaal and her Stray!!!
Which promising young star won our judges over?

Let's skip ahead slightly and look at our Seventh and Final category, Seventh Heaven! For this song, our worthy Final Two could select a song of their choice to round out their final performance. Brainbustaaah! dIpped into a musical genre that he's had much success with this season, breaking out the Seattle's own metalcore band, Demon Hunter and their melodic Collapsing! To round out his impressive performance this game, Zack Morris is Insane. chose the bluesy, hard rock of the inimitable Doors, with their incomparable front man, Jim Morrison, with LA Woman!!!
