This here was my first choice but Tyger sadly vetoed it: Hey that was my first choice to lol. I can understand why it wasn't accepted a song that epic would break the score board because it would be to high of a score for one person to handle.

Three out of Four Judges have sent in their rankings for Round 5 : Make Us Turn. We can now announce the theme for the next round! Our FAN Idol hopefuls have just presented their picks for songs performed on a reality television competition. The artists they used were just getting their big break, with many of them eventually signing record contracts and moving forward in their musical careers. Our contestants are ready to make the next step as well. Last round restricted them in their musical choices. This round will open up the sandbox significantly. The next theme is... "In the darkness of London’s Casino Cinerama, a 21-year-old David Bowie stared at the space embryo floating across the theatre’s huge, 70mm screen. It was summer 1968, and this was the third time the singer-songwriter had been to see 2001: A Space Odyssey, released in April that year. “It was the sense of isolation I related to,” Bowie told Classic Rock. “I found the whole thing amazing. I was out of my gourd, very stoned when I went to see it – several times – “It was the sense of isolation I related to. I found the whole thing amazing. I was out of my gourd, very stoned when I went to see it – several times – and it was really a revelation to me. It got the song flowing.” ****** "It was rush-released on July 11, nine days ahead of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. Copies were air-mailed to US disc jockeys. But despite the efforts to piggyback on NASA’s moment of glory, it got little play in the States. The reception in England was much warmer, however. “It was picked up by British television and used as the background music for the landing itself in Britain,” Bowie said, then added with a chuckle: “Though I’m sure they really weren’t listening to the lyric at all; it wasn’t a pleasant thing to juxtapose against a moon landing. Of course, I was overjoyed that they did. Obviously, some BBC official said: ‘Right, then. That space song, Major Tom…’ blah blah blah, ‘That’ll be great.’ Nobody had the heart to tell the producer: ‘Um… but he gets stranded in space, sir.’” www.loudersound.com/features/story-behind-the-song-space-oddity-david-bowie Round 6 : Launching a Career
Choose 1 Song that has been released as a Single This song can be released at any point in a solo artist's career. It doesn't matter how high it reached on the charts, just as long as it has been released as a single.

Just out of curiosity what counts as being released as a single? Asking more of a language difference things. A single has to be released outside of an album right? But can still be part of one? Edit:Regardless, got my pick.

I'm thinking more of how music is distributed these days. Some songs may not be what people consider traditional singles but they still have a video.

Just out of curiosity what counts as being released as a single? Song has to be part of a physical or digital release that is smaller than an LP or album. So, this would include the A and B sides of a traditional two song single (Let's use Smells like Teen Spirit as an example: the single had Smells like Teen Spirit as the A side and Even in His Youth as the B side) and we'll include EPs for the sake of this round. The release has to be designated as a single or EP officially.

Submitted my song.
To everyone, if you’re not sure about a particular song or artist, you can check Wikipedia and most artists should have an article with their singles release chronology.

It's pretty early but does anyone have a favorite round so far?
Anything you'd like to see?

well you know I'd be all about another Broadway round but that should go rather without saying at this point. as for what I've liked so far I'm enjoying this round. easy-ish theme that nonetheless is difficult because there's just so much you can pull from that picking one is it's own challenge. matter of fact I nearly decided to change my submission just now before deciding to stay the course.

I'll just briefly mention, in terms of favorites, that this is currently my favorite season of Idol that I've been a part of.
I think Tyger has done an amazing job of hosting, hearing out the judges, helping the contestants, and keeping things going at a great pace. Along with that - it's still early, but I've already discovered and re-discovered songs that have been added to my playlist and am excited for more.
When I first started playing Idol, I didn't envy the judges because I knew it took a lot of time to sit down, listen to all the songs, and rank them (and re-rank them and split hairs). There's a lot of thought that goes into it. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, though, and have really been looking forward to PMs from Tyger with a new list of songs.
So...keep it up everyone!
But like, mostly my team. Because they are the bestest!

For an idea for a round, maybe 2 rounds... like, the four judges select a theme that they want the most, and each team will have to submit a song based on the theme of their judge. Next round contestants will have to pick one of the themes from the other judges.

Here's another idea: end credits. Song has to be something that got used for the end credits, whether it's from a TV show, movie, or video game.

So, rankings are in. If I can be honest, I'm surprised at the different shows that got used here, even if some of the performances left me a bit wanting as a fan of reality singing shows. Again, I think my team would have killed my rankings if we were running all 16, but alas. I'll be interested to see how my guys get scored in this round especially.
