oh! BrodietheSlayer, undying respect for "Army." That's the song I was grumbling about someone taking, and now I get to grumble even more since it got first place this round. but for real, excellent choice. love Ben Folds.

The winner of Round 6 : Launching a Career wins this: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Lake Osceola, where Ben Folds threw his drum set into after flunking a test in college and later, per the song, considered joining the army. Contestants, Judges, and those watching at home, I have an announcement to make regarding Round 7 : Making Progress. The FAN Idol OG, Jazzman, is on vacation and will sit out the judging for Round 7. Jazzman has helped several of you in the standings with his rather formidable and wide-ranging musical tastes. He has also, I am sure, presented a bit of a challenge as well. So, having someone else fill in for this round may have a big impact on the game moving forward. I looked for a couple of possible replacements but one responded quickly and with enthusiasm. A sampling of songs this judge has selected in the past include: This judge is a two-time FAN Idol finalist, a winner of many individual rounds, and has shown an eclectic range of musical taste. So Dub H Waffel113 @returnofthestryker Kevin HamiltonYour judge and mentor for this round is... ... ... ... Roxie Daggers herself, King Boo!!!!

I definitely have a different ear than the other judges, so feel free to disagree with me. But...
I really enjoyed this round. If you find yourself at the bottom of my list, please don't take offense. I actually heard lots of positives from each song and clicked out of each video happy to have heard what I listened to. My bottom songs this round probably would have placed higher in other rounds.
Just an all around solid effort from everyone here. I wish I could have given out more points, to be honest.
And my team - still killing it!

“On Tom Sawyer, the synthesiser is such a key part of that song,” says Lifeson of the recording. “There was a good integration between the three of us and the keyboards. We still had that trio feel. Plus, we always felt that we had to replicate each song as faithfully as possible when we played it live, so Tom Sawyer was written in that way. There’s no rhythm guitar under the guitar solo or anything like that.” It’s a song that proved pivotal to the band’s development. Geddy Lee has called it the “defining piece of music” from Rush in the early 80s. For much of that decade, keyboards took an increasingly important role in the band’s sound. More than three decades on, the power of this song, and its message, has not diminished. “There’s a freshness about that sound that still stands out,” Lifeson says proudly. “And there’s something in the lyric that people have always related to very strongly – the spirit of independence and adventure. It’s just one of those special songs.” In recent years, a wave of unlikely Rush fans have emerged from the woodwork, not least South Park co-creator Matt Stone. Belying his serious reputation, Neil Peart asked Stone to create a cartoon skit of the South Park kids performing Tom Sawyer, in which the cartoon characters are billed as Lil’ Rush. Their performance quickly unravels when singer Eric Cartman fluffs his lines and rival Kyle Broflovski exclaims: “Those aren’t the right lyrics, fat-ass!” Cartman snapped back: “I am Geddy Lee, and I will sing whatever lyrics I want!” The skit was screened at Rush gigs before the real band played Tom Sawyer. “Matt did such a great job with it,” says Lifeson. “We all had a great laugh. And the fans loved it!” www.loudersound.com/features/the-story-behind-the-song-tom-sawyer-by-rushAnd here are the songs our contestants selected for Round 7 : Making Progress! Our intrepid players were asked to choose songs that served as the opening track for a band or solo artist's album. Songs from several of the most famous albums were selected, as were more under the radar choices that, nevertheless made this an exemplary round. To add another element of drama to this roubd, with Jazzman on vacation, two-time FAN Idol finalist and one of the best players to ever take on FAN Idol, King Boo has lent her wide-ranging musical tastes to our judging panel! One round remains before the first Elimination Sing-Off!
