Remember the news reports that he was in great shape after the hip replacement and going to come back better than ever? And then he was still shit? He wasn't bad in the Rusev match but it seems to have been the last ounce of strength he had. Dude is fine in a “greatest hits” match or something with smoke and mirrors like outside distractions ala Aiden English. But WWE looooves it’s long ass mid 2000s ROH finisherfest and a billion kickouts, and him trying to do that over the years has been just sad to see.

It's too bad the tail end of his career has been so sloppy, retirements, unretirements, bad matches. In hindsight it probably won't matter but it's just too bad. He deserved a proper send off and it feels too late to do it right anymore.

Gonna be sad not to see him, but yeah, he definitely shouldn't be wrestling anything after that match at Crown Jewel. That shit was like watching your 100 year old grandpa fight for his life whilst trapped in the local zoo's emu exhibit, struggling to do much of anything even when one of the emus f***ed its own shoulder about 2 minutes in to the fight like an absolute dingus.

Taker put great matches literally until the end. The hate he randomly and unjustly gets now is a joke. Webster's defines "Great" as: Markedly superior in quality and character; remarkably skilled. Taker's last few appearances and matches were not that.

Just have Strowman definitively beat him and call it there. Doesn't need to be 20 minutes.

He needs to be thinking of it in terms of the next generation of fans. Do they want to see a killer who fought until it was shown he couldn’t? Or a guy who insisted on sticking around way, way beyond that?

I started watching around 1989-90, when Andre was well past his prime, and I didn't understand what the huge deal was about a tall, severely broken-down, fat guy that mostly just hobbled around and got tied up in the ropes, while being touted as "the eighth wonder of the world." Granted, I later saw his earlier work and became a huge fan; I totally get it now.
I can't help but feel like that's exactly the experience anyone who became a fan in the last six or seven years has had with Taker.

That look from their left to their right and back again between Hogan and Rock at the beginning of their match just soaking in the fan reaction is amazing.
EDIT:! This was meant for the Mania Moments thread.
Don't care. Too lazy to move it!

Unless he's like, a cyborg now, I can't think of anything to justify putting him on the card. I haven't seen anything that'd imply he's up to the task.

If this is true, I wouldn't complain.
He extended his career by years in switching to the special WrestleMania appearances, and I think he put out pretty much all he had left in the Brock feud in 2015, culminating in that fantastic and brutal Hell in a Cell.
If the three years past that haven't been memorable and worthwhile, his career as a whole unquestionably is and it'd be a good time to call it a day.
Although I do like the idea of a one-off Survivor Series 2020 appearance. Maybe as a tag assist. Just to round it all off.

He should have retired when the Streak ended. The Bray match had no heat and barely any build, because it came too late after the Streak had broken. The Shane & Cena matches were total wastes. The Roman match was just sad, and not in the Ric/HBK Old Yeller way, in the "hang it up man before you break something" way.
I loved Taker in the day, but "the day" ended 7 or 8 years ago. It's time.

Taker put great matches literally until the end. The hate he randomly and unjustly gets now is a joke. literally nobody is "hating" on Undertaker in this thread. all we're saying is that he's visibly broken down and can't go even half as well as he used to, which is an objective truth even if you're a big fan of the guy. that match at Crown Jewel was an embarassment.

It's always painful to watch Taker these days, at least for the past 2 years or so.
Dude is the best big man of all time. I know it's a matter of debate and all that, but I feel it's probably the general consensus.
His last true spark of brilliance was the final Brock feud. "I'LL KILL YOU!" "YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO" is the simplest exchange to ever sell me on a match. Going out on his shield like that as one of the few dudes that could take Brock to the limit even at his age is a great way to go.
If he's financially set to the point he doesn't have to step foot in the ring ever again, good on him. I think he's contender for GOAT status.
If he wants to come out for special occasions to chokeslam jobbers for a crowd pop and a payday, I'm cool with that. Just be done with working full matches, because I'm sure his wife and kids would like for him to make it to Bruno's age, not Piper's.
